7. Jerkface 101
After first I quickly ran into the bathroom and yanked out my phone from the side pocket of my backpack. Failing Rebecca number.
She better pick up or once she returns we're gonna have some issue.
"Hello-"
"Rebecca I did something without realizing I did it." I whispered screamed through the phone. "I mean. I might if agreed, but I'm not sure. Like all i said was okay and now I'm freaking out and I don't know why and-"
"Alright take a deep breath." Rebecca said calmly.
Whenever I'm nervous I have this tendency to keep talking. And talking. And talking. Without taking any breaths. Which usual leads to me fainting or passing out, but those are the same thing. I think.
"Sorry." I mumbled.
"What happened again?"
I took a deep breath before explaining the whole thing.
"I accidentally agreed to tutor Blake Hunt."I looked up and saw a couple overly excited freshmen look at me from the bathroom entrance.
"Do you mind?" The more confident one said like this is her bathroom. Like this is her school.
"Not really." I grinned.
"Come on. There's another bathroom down the hall." The not-so-confident one tugged at her friends arm.
"No Carol." She jolted her friend's hand off her.
"I'm gonna have to put you on hold Rebecca." I mumbled.
"Wait Julia-" Rebecca said right before I shoved the phone into my leggings.
"You think you're so tough?" The confident one yelled.
Sighing, I stood up.
I'm not a tall person or at least I don't consider myself to be a tall person. I mean, I'm only five feet and Sox inches. While other girls here are about five foot, nine. Sometimes six foot if they decided to wear heels. Which I still don't understand because you're gonna be at school for seven hours. My feet hurt and I'm in converses, how do you feel when you're in heels?
That's besides the point. The point is, I was a giant compared to these tiny girls.
The so called confident one, tough face dropped. Turning into a what -have-I-done type of look.
It's the type of look you give when, let's say, you're on a really tall rollercoaster. Actually you don't have to be on it in the first place. You could be in line, waiting for your doom. The fact that you thought this was a good idea turned bad when you reached the loading point. Where you realize you have no idea why you decided it was a good idea in the first place. Like putting a cat into the bathtub. At first you thought it would be funny or watch your pet freakout, but quickly it turns into a bloody disaster in a matter of seconds. That's the type of face this girl had.
"You know. On second thought." She stumbled over her words. "We'll go somewhere else."
The two of them jolted out of the bathroom.
I wasn't actually gonna do anything. I'm not a violent person. Also they were just stupid freshmen who only care about popularity and how good their makeup looks before every class they go too. Especially if there was a boy involved somewhere in the crazy, hormonal, mess of theirs. I would of probably just left, I already have enough drama in my life right now. Rather not get on the bad side of them.
I pulled out my phone and placed it to my ear. Readjusting my shirt in the mirror.
Rebecca. Oh sweet Rebecca. Was not only worried that I was about to be whooped (I'm not a fighter, at all) or that I would do something I'd regret, was yelling my name.
"Julia!"
"Julia!"
"Jules!"
"God. Stop screaming." I told her. Removing my phone from my ear so they could have some sort of rest from the Voice of Rebecca.
"Sorry. I just chose not to hear my best friend being killed." I could hear the smile on her voice.
"So you masked it by screaming name?" I grinned.
"Exactly." She said out of habit. "Wait what?"
"Besides, they were just tiny freshmen acting all tough." I smile.
"So you were saying about Blake Hunt?" She continued the whole reason why I was in the bathroom I'm the first place.
"You know the Blake Hunt. Braces-"
"I know who Blake Hunt is." She cuts me off. "It's all over Tara's social media accounts."
"I'm not shocked."
"So you agreed to tutor the most popular guy st East High." She takes the words out of my mouth. "Who's also dating girl who kind of hates you at this moment in time." Just her mentioning gave me an uneasy twisting feeling in my stomach. "Who's also your carpool every morning."
"You can stop there." I cut her off. I didn't want to hear anymore of what Blake Hunt is to me.
"You are just digging yourself a giant hole, Julia."
"I haven't noticed." I glare even though she can't even see my face.
"In the words of the wise Captain Jack Sparrow." Oh dear lord. "The problem is not the problem; the problem is your attitude about the problem."
"Did you just?"
"Yes. Yes I did." She replied.
"I'm pretty sure the problem is the fact Tara already hates my guts." I joke. What else could I do about this matter?
"I think you are just over thinking the whole thing." It felt like Rebecca just switched sides on me. You're my best friend, you gotta give me well given friend advice.
"That Tara hates my guts?" I asked just to be certain we were on the same topic.
"Oh no. She defiantly hates you. I'm talking about the Blake thing."
"The Blake thing?"
"The oh-my-god-I-accidently-agreed-to-tutor-Blake-Hunt thing." She says. Intimidating my voice.
"I do not sound like that." I can't help, but laugh.
I looked at the digital clock and realized I only had a minutes to get to class.
"Shit. Talk to later Rebecca." I say right before hanging up and running out the restroom.
Hitting someone hard enough that it knocked me on the ground. I looked up to see who I knocked into, before apologizing I noticed who stood over me.
And I thought this day couldn't get any worse.
There stood the arrogant, jerk face that he is. His short brownish hair pointed up to the sky like he's proud or something. The same dark brown circles for eyes who may seem to be kind, but he is the rudest person on this planet. His sharp jawline that grinded every heart her broke. That dark skin that makes him look like a ninja when he comes sneaking into your life. Just his presence made me angry. Who could this idiot of the earth be? Oh the one and only Elliot Carter. The stealer of heart. Might have an angel like face, but his personality matched perfectly to Tara's.
Oh, he's also the scumbag who was my boyfriend for two years. Until I found out he was getting it on with girls at East High while I was gone.
"Julia. Baby!" He grabbed my wrists and yanked me off the floor.
I jolted his hands off me and stepped back. "Glad to see you too." I say with the most sarcastic voice I could do.
I wanted to wipe that stupid grin off his face.
"Now if you excuse me. I gotta get to class." I glare.
He grabbed my hand and this time I slapped it away. That's when the bell rang.
"Thanks." I turned around slowly to see Elliot with a smug look on his face. "Now I'm late."
"It isn't that bad." He then began to gesture to himself. "You got to spend time with me."
"You're right. It's horrible." I snap.
"Ouch, that hurt Lee." He held his heart like it truly did hurt.
"Like how you hurt me?" I crossed my arms.
When he didn't say anything I turned and left.
Now that I'm done dealing with the dick known as Elliot Carter, I now have to go deal with Mrs. Rogers and explain to him (along with the entire class) why I'm late. If I'm lucky, he won't care. Yet it seems like I ran out if luck.
"Miss. Lee, you're late." Mr. Rogers imminently said when I walked in.
"I'm so sorry." I say. Ready to start my beg for not giving me detention.
"Mr. Rogers." Blake spoke up.
We both looked over at him like we were thinking what heck was he doing.
"Julia here was grabbing my phone." He says. Lying straight to his face.
"Then why didn't you go get it?" Mr. Rogers asked. Suspicious.
"Well you see." He continues to lie. " I had a hardcore practice Saturday. Julia is in a much better position since I can barley walk."
Alright. I'll give it to him. That totally made since because when you're sore. You look like a zombie. Also Mr. Rogers science class it upstairs. That would be impossible to get down in a timely manner.
Mr. Rogers clicked his teeth. "Alright. But I'm giving you both a twenty minute detention."
Huh. What?
"Since you both need to learn that it's not acceptable to be late to my class."
Blake wasn't even late? Now I feel guilty since Blake is now getting trouble.
This day is going downhill and now I'm dragging other people down with me.
