Where the Shadows Lie

In the burning Lake Town

A whistling arrow flies

And tears through a tiny fault

Of a dragon’s mighty hide

As the shadows in his heart

Claim his swiftly dying eyes.

A rasping breath can be heard

As above the eagles fly

And a dwarf pulled by temptation

Lays at last in peace to die

And a small and shivering hobbit

Wishes him goodbye.

A greying, fading wizard

Heaves a shaky, tired sigh

Even he can’t fight the shadows

As they wail and writhe and cry

And the only way to free them

Is to cut their mortal ties.

In the kingdom of Lothlorien

An elf lord’s shattered pride

And his devotion to his people

Are barely keeping him alive

For it’s hard to fight the shadows

When the shadows lie inside.

I am obsessed with the idea of the whole 'darkness inside' idea, and this just came to me when I finished the three empty poems, and kind of ties them together, in a way. Sort of. Well, not really.
