Too soon
"When did you buy this?" Jessica asked as she looked around the magnificent building that she now stood in. This is heaven. She thought to herself.
"Last year. I wanted to be close to home but not in the home." Liam gave Jessica a knowing look. "You know what I mean."
"Yeah."
"You like it?"
"I love it."
The house was located in one of the posh areas of the city, with only penthouses or gigantic villas in view. It reminded Jessica, once again, that Liam was rich. Richer than she had ever imagined, even though she did not clearly know how rich.
"You're graduating soon." Liam whispered as he wrapped his arms around this woman that he had once missed. "You can move here when you have a job." He planted small kisses from her lips, all the way down to her neck, giving her shivers all over.
"I don't want to have a job." Jessica lightly pushed him away.
"Then don't. I have enough money to support both of us." He slipped his hand under Jessica's shirt, grabbing her breasts and pressing them hard enough to make her moan. "And about three or four kids, if we have."
"We are talking." She whispered.
"Talking can wait. It's been weeks, Jessica. I need you." Liam pressed himself against Jessica, feeling her curves all over.
"Let's get a room then."
Liam picked her up like a light feather and dropped her on the couch. "There's enough room here." He unbuttoned his shirt faster than Jessica could comprehend. There was a need in his eyes, a desire, which existed solely for her. She had that effect on him. For once, she felt wanted, and it made her smile to herself. But that smile did not last long. It soon turned into soft-screams and moans as the evening progressed into night.

It was about two a.m. when these two reckless people thought they had had enough of each other for the time being. Liam had carried Jessica to his bedroom cuddling closer to her as she lay her head on his chest, all tired and sleepy. He stroked his fingers through her hair. "Why don't you sleep? Couldn't I tire you enough?" He watched Jessica's cheek turn all red and a smirk formed on his face. He let his hands roam freely across her body, before she stopped him and tried to make a serious conversation.
"Let's talk." Jessica said as she moved away from him. She did not want to be distracted once again, his intentions were all too clear to her.
"I am listening."
She looked up at the ceiling and took a deep breath.
"I don't know what I want to do after graduation. I don't want a fixed schedule job with a limited amount of pay and work my whole life like that." She paused to check if he had to say something. When he didn't, she continued. "I don't know what I might sound like, but I am still confused about my life, being this close to graduating. I know you can take care of us both, but it will make me feel indebted. I don't want to become a gold digger, Liam."
"I can spoil you as much as I want, Jessica. It's me who decides on that, not you or other people."
"But-"
"You can come work with me. That way we can be together and I won't bind you to a schedule. You can work from home and take as many leaves as you want. As of the salary-" Liam pulled Jessica to him and held her tight. "-all that I earn is yours."
"That's too nice an offer to reject." Jessica smiled and pondered for a while. "It's unfair to the ones who are more skilled to work than me."
"The company is mine. I call the shots. If someone finds it unfair, they may very well fuck off to their homes. Etch this in your mind Jessica, life in unfair, only a few find luck, so fuck everyone who isn't thinking of your comfort, even if it be your own heart in denial of the offer in front."
"Then I'll be greedy, this time."
"Always be greedy, Jessica. Always ask for more."
"Ask for more...?" Jessica let her fingers on Liam's bare chest slide all the way down, stopping only too close to a gem. This time, it was him who placed her hand back to herself.
"Now it's my turn to talk."
"You are confused too?"
"I need you to marry me." Liam looked at Jessica. "Before my vacation ends." His eyes pleaded to her.
She shook her head in denial, or disbelief, or both. "You cannot be ser-"
"I am, in fact very serious about this. I have a ring, right here in this home. In my study."
"We have been dating only for a few weeks, Liam. Marriage is a big thing. I don't feel I am responsible enough, or mature enough for that." She laughed. "I don't even know what marriage is like, I haven't understood our relationship enough for that leap of faith. I am twenty-one, but I don't even feel eighteen." She tried to decipher the unreadable expression on his face. "Why do you want us to get married so soon?"
"Remember the day I said I had to meet someone?"
"The day we started dating. Yes, I do."
"It was about, in simple terms about acquiring a company which belongs to a certain Mr. McCallum. An old man, he is. He plans to shut the whole thing down when he dies, but it is too good and well established to shut it down like that. I knew I had to have it. But there's this strange demand he made. He would only sell the company to someone who has a family. Someone who has a wife, at least, if not kids."
"And so you want me to marry you."
"You're my girlfriend. You are the woman that I like, Jessica. I know it's too soon-"
"Whatever it is for, Liam, we cannot rush into things. It is too soon. It has only been a few weeks. Marry when you really want to, not for deals here and there." He knew she was right. Those were his thoughts too, initially.
"I really don't want to miss this, Jessica."
She could read the desperation in his eyes. Begging her to say yes. And yet she could not bring herself to agree to marrying him this soon. She knew it would screw things over.
"Would an engagement do?"
"You mean?"
"We can be engaged. If things go well, we can get married. That is what I hope too, as I said, I would rather this last for a lifetime. I want to make sure it works. But only time can tell."
Liam smiled. Perhaps it was his own greed that made him rush things. Marriage might be a distant future, but being engaged to the girl he liked was nothing less than a dream itself. Mr. McCallum or not, he had wanted to marry Jessica. Things would only happen quickly, that a catalyst was introduced. He once again kissed those lips with such a passion that he had no idea could light up within him. A wave of calm and sleep took over these two souls as they fell asleep with an intention to part from the other for a while, only to find each other in their dreams.
