the game of choices continue..
The floorings inside were made from maple wood. There were abstract paintings on almost every corner of the house. There's a grand piano beside the receiving area of the elegant mansion. And the two gentlemen were sitting on the warm couch beside the warmth of the burning ember of the fireplace, and the only thing that stood on their middle, was a small, smooth, rounded marble table. Margaret was preparing brewed coffee in the kitchen, and there was an uncomfortable silence that encompass the whole house.
Then..
The old detective started the conversation, "I have tracked you down Charlie. So don't think that you can easily fool me."
Charlie was just calm and composed. There's no sense of agitation on his face, nor fear. He uttered in a very calm tone, "I staged it all up that's why you were here. Every detail, every bit, every nook, every piece of everything was tailored by me, and me alone... That's why you tracked me down." After he uttered those words, Margaret came from the kitchen with cups of brewed coffee for each one of them. Then Charlie, uttered, "You can choose to take a cup of coffee or believe that we put a poison on one of the cups."
The old detective took a cup and sipped a coffee from the glass cup, then he asked, "I am quite intrigued with your calm and composed gesture, who are you Charlie Pistone? You seemed like a good guy, WHY AND HOW DID YOU DO ALL OF THAT?"
Margaret went back to the kitchen.
Charlie leaned forward then asked the old detective with a serious but still in a calm tone, "Pick one.. What do you want to know first? Is it how did I do it... why did I do it... or who Charlie Pistone is or was?
"So this is really a game of choice, huh? Okay, I'll play your game.."
"What do you want to know first, sir?"
The old detective smiled and looked Charlie eye to eye, "How did you do all of these?"
Charlie leaned backwards and began to utter in a very calm and soft voice, "Like I have said to you, every fragment of everything was carefully planned. You are here not because you chose to be here, but because I wanted you to be here. Everything was planned and everything was staged."
"Arrogant prick...", the old detective smirked sarcastically, then uttered, "Though I have my own hunch and a little bit of idea on how you did your very own game, I really wanted to hear it personally from you, MAESTRO.", the old detective sarcastically smiled.
Charlie, with a calm voice, uttered, "A week before the incident, I donated my own blood, twice, in an alternate schedule at Steve Jenkins Memorial Hospital, where we all know here, that my precious nurse, Margaret, was working there on full-time. She slipped the two bags of blood from the hospital, a day before the incident occur."
Charlie sipped his coffee then continued,
"The morning before the quote unquote incident had happened, I waited all my distant neighbors to go out for work or do their groceries. Then, when I saw all of them went out to their own different ventures, I started to mess-up my own house to make it a crime scene, broke the glass window on the back part of the house, hid the mysterious crumpled paper underneath the debris and then poured my own blood on those broken fragments of glass that scattered on the floor. After I finished my crime scene, I called Margaret to get the blood samples of Winston Gavino from the hospital lab and tasked her to put it on the broken glass window so that in the end, Gavino would be blamed for everything. There's still much more to expose and explain, but let's just save the interesting parts... LATER."
The old detective with much sarcasm on his face, uttered, "You told me lately that you perfectly set it all up but all I can say is 'nice try kid, but you failed', because your plans to bury Gavino didn't succeed because early today, he bailed out, since nothing was MISSING and NO DEAD CHARLIE was found in the crime scene or somewhere... because... OH YES....I ALMOST FORGOT.... you are ALIVE!", the old detective laughed sarcastically.
With a huge smile on his face, Charlie uttered, "I know he could just easily dodge that bullet. But believe me, I made it all up, not primarily for Winston Gavino, but I set that stage up..... all for YOU.. and for YOU TO COME HERE, ON THIS VERY EXACT MOMENT, IN THIS VERY EXACT PLACE. And I believe that at the end of this story, I will not be the one who will bury Winston Gavino.. BUT YOU WILL."
The old detective was puzzled. He can't understand what Charlie had previously said. He can't utter a word.
So, Charlie continued..
"Yes, you heard me right, I am the one who sent you here. Right from the very beginning, I already told Margaret to act suspiciously, mysteriously and sarcastically, so that you would consider her as a primary suspect of the crime. So, since I already knew that it would happen and you will task someone to gather personal informations about her, I told Margaret to file a sick leave and schedule a flight here to Minnesota, a week before my planned incident would happen. I knew you would track Margaret. I knew you would met that police officer and I knew that you would ask him about Margaret, so I invented a character named Andrew Holmes.", Charlie chuckled then continued, "But it's just a disappointment, SIR, that after I had pointed you to my PRECIOUS BOOKSHELF and after seeing ALL MY BOOKS, you still didn't figured out that I got the surname Holmes, from SHERLOCKE HOLMES, and the name ANDREW from the book, I supposed you also saw in my bookshelf, entitled, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, written by Stephen King. So, I REALLY LAUGHED SO HARD WHEN YOU YELLED ON THE FRONT GATE, 'MARGARET, YOU CHEATER!! YOU CHEATED CHARLIE WITH THAT ANDREW HOLMES YOU ARE HIDING INSIDE THAT FANCY MANSION!' ", Charlie was almost in tears in so much laughter and he was really laughing so hard.
The old detective felt that he had been toyed. He was in disbelief, so he was so mad and became furious but he didn't utter a word and just kept his anger to himself.
Charlie continued, now IN A VERY SERIOUS TONE, "I know you Chief Detective Fred Montgomery Alred, your father was a war vetaran during the World War II, your mother was also a nurse, right? You have a wife who cheated you, because she felt that you loved your work more than you loved her... AND SHE WAS RIGHT. She filed a divorce and now you are living all alone in a simple bungalow house near the Mystic River, since your lovely daughter named Georgina, moved to New York three years ago. I also know that four months from now, you'll be celebrating your 36th year in the service.... So, believe me Detective, as I told you, I know everything about the stage I set up. I know the evil deeds of Winston Gavino, and I know how you have failed to gather enough evidence to make him pay for it. But today.... I will give you a chance, but this will be a game.. A GAME OF CHOICES.
The old detective was shocked in all that he had heard. All he can utter and ask was, "WHO.. ARE... YOU...?"
Charlie chuckled and uttered, "I really don't love to spoil the best part on the start of anything. So, if you won't mind, can we just proceed first on WHY before we proceed on WHO?"
