Chapter One
The day was the same as the weeks before, missing child posters, alerts, and news station vans sat right outside Bella Doe's door. Her best friend Rowan Stutzman was declared missing after a week of absence. Unusually, the tiny town of Connellsville, Pa was packed with police, news reporters, and eager people wanting the fifty thousand dollar reward for finding Rowan. Her heart broke further as every news reporter tried to interview her, Rowan's family, and her peers. The tourists wanted money not to re-unite a grieving community with a missing citizen. Bella gave her mother a hug before walking outside to weave through the crown of people that sat outside her front door. The crowds were so huge that her mother asked police to escort her to the bus stop every week. As usual, they were dressed in riot gear and were heavily armed with pepper spray, tasers, and other defense gadgets to fend off rowdy crowd members. Typically, news reporters would not pester her with questions, but today marked the one weak anniversary of Rowan's disappearance and the press was merciless. She weaved her way through the crowd without answering questions and while avoiding danger simultaneously. The bus sat on the corner of the street waiting for her arrival. The police men backed off as she neared the opened doors and walked onto the yellow tube of chaos also known as a school bus.
As usual, she sat down in her assigned seat that was in the back of the bus. She plugged in her Apple ear phones into her IPhone 5s and played On My Own from Le Mis on repeat. Sticking to the normal schedule, she got hit in the back of the head with a half of a pencil and a fight almost broke out, "Typical." She thought as she stood up to get off of the chamber of torture and walk into the literal building of hell, high school. Today had more of an eerie feeling than a feeling of awkwardness and fear. Bella shook off her uncertainties as her being pitiful and walked into the building.
The hallways were lined with posters begging students to come forward with any information leading to Rowan's SAFE return. Bella's tiny frame filled with rage as the sight. She knew that deep inside that Rowan's safe return wouldn't be everyone's main focus, it would be the cash reward. She knew that she was one of the few people in the tiny town who cared for everyone, even if they were not caring towards her, and after years of believing that everyone was like her, she lost all faith in society that it could change. Stalking down the hallway, she walked with her head down and went to her homeroom, Ms. Rhen room 117. Tears welled in her eyes as she sat down beside the empty desk that belonged to Rowan. She was the last one to walk in and as she sat down Ms. Rhen began to speak, "Hello class, today we have a new student joining us and the super intendant has asked me to recommend a student to show him around! So, Miss Bella Doe, will you go pick him up from the office?"
