HYPOCRITE-FEZCO
Sativa sat on Fezco's couch waiting for her boyfriend to come home as she tried to stay awake because of the mild concussion she had. She blinked boredly watching 'Stand By Me' as a sharp knock was placed on the door. She sighed rolling her eyes and getting up and checking through the screen door who it was making her eyes go ridgid with anger. "What do you want?" She spoke immediately as she opened the door for Elliot who had a sad apologetic look on his face. "I wanted to talk" He said as she rolled her eyes. "We're talking right now" She spoke as he gave her a sad look. "I wanted to apologize, you were still my friend" He said as she smacked her teeth.
"Why're you apologizing. You didn't seem to care when you feeding Rue's addiction like it was nothing." She said bluntly as he sighed. "Can you please not be like that, I'm trying here- I don't give a fuck that your trying, my cousin is fucking missing right now!" She spoke as angry tears started to cloud at her eyes. She stared at the boy in front of her with sadness, pain, and guilt.
She felt like a hypocrite.
"Sativa what do you want me to do?" He pleaded as she gave him a look. "Stay the fuck away from me, I'm not friends with liars" She said trying to close the door before Elliot blocked it. "You know you're such a fucking hypocrite" He spoke as her heart clenched. "It's okay for you to do drugs but not Rue? I shouldn't have never fuckin' said anything. I liked Rue the way she was. She looked fine to me" He spoke as Sativa stood there infuriated by his change of tone. "You don't know her, Elliot! She just fucking OD'd last summer! You think giving her drugs was helping her? The shit was just slowly killing her."
Sativa's hands trembled as she clenched the doorknob, her knuckles turning white with the force of her grip. Elliot's words echoed in her mind, each one like a dagger twisting deeper into her already fragile heart. She wanted to scream, to lash out at him for being so blind, for not understanding the gravity of what he'd done. But instead, she took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
"Do you even hear yourself, Elliot?" she spat, her voice a low, dangerous whisper. "You might as well have handed her a loaded gun."Elliot's face hardened, the sadness in his eyes giving way to a flicker of defensiveness. "I never wanted to hurt her. I was just trying to be there for her when no one else was."
Sativa shook her head, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "Being there for her? By dragging her down further into the darkness? By feeding the very thing that was destroying her? That's not being there, Elliot. That's being a fucking enabler."
She could see the guilt flash across his face, but she wasn't done. Not yet. There was too much pent-up rage, too much pain that needed to be unleashed. "And the thing is, I asked you. I asked you 'Is Rue doing drugs?' and you said 'No' right to my face" She whispered as her lip now trembled. "I'm sorry-I don't give a fuck if you're sorry! I trusted you and you lied to me!" She interrupted as every emotion she ever felt coursed through her.
Elliot opened his mouth to respond, but she cut him off. "And don't you dare try to put this on me. Yeah, I made my mistakes, but at least I fucking owned them. At least I tried to get better, to pull myself out of that hole. What did you do? You just pushed her further down, and now she's gone because of it."
Tears welled up in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Not in front of him. Not when she needed to be strong. "I'm so fucking tired of caring about people who don't care about themselves so i'm done. So do me this last thing and get out of my life.."
Elliot stood there, speechless, the weight of her words hanging heavy in the air. He looked like he wanted to say something, anything, to defend himself, but he couldn't find the words. Sativa didn't give him the chance. She shoved the door shut, the sound of the lock clicking into place echoing in the small space.
She stood there for a moment, her back against the door, trying to catch her breath. The anger was still there, burning hot in her chest, but beneath it was something else. A deep, aching sorrow for all the things she couldn't change, for all the people she couldn't save.
As the tears finally spilled over, she slid down to the floor, her knees pulled to her chest. She was tired—tired of fighting, tired of losing the people she loved to the darkness. And as she sat there, alone in the silence, she realized just how much she missed the way things used to be. Before the lies, before the addiction, before everything fell apart.
