Ava

Talk?

We were sat facing each other on the couch, he was waiting for me to talk.

"About what?"

"Everything, you don't seem like yourself, what bothering you Ava?" he asked, concerned.

I sallow the lump growing in my throat and answer,  "Will I hate the fact that there hasn't been a new episode of Spongebob in awhile and how 'fitted sheets' sometimes never seem to actually fit and tha-"

Kai interrupts my ramble, "no, seriously Ava,"

Seriously?

I am serious!

"Nothing, I'm just tired," I sigh

His brows furrow, "Tired? Of what or why?"

I trust him and I see Kai wondering around like a goddam Greek god in my future, he deserves to know.

"Kai? Why didn't you go for someone, I don't know rich?" And much more beautiful, not that I don't slay I think I could model for 'Next top Potatoe' and definitely win.

"Is that what's bothering you? But if you really want to know then, Ava they're not you, I don't want anyone else expect you and I really don't care about someone's money or background," Kai sits closer to me, trying to get his point across

I frowned, looking down, "Kai, you don't even know my story, yet you somehow manage to like me,"

"Your past doesn't define you, I liked you for who you were the moment I met you, and that's what really matters," he states,

But see I think differently, because of my past I am who I am right now.

"You know who my stepdad is," I know he does because his father mentioned it before

"Yes I do, Andrew Smiths," Kai nods

"Will firstly, his an asshole," the end

Kai's face falls into a frown, confusion, amusement, he doesn't even know how he should respond.

"His my older sisters best friends dad, my mom obviously knew him from that but after my dad past away he toke advantage of that and kept trying to get closer to her. By the end she was completely blind and wasn't even trying to see that the idiot was using her, I tried telling her but she didn't want to listen, he'd manage to completely put her under his spell. I swear I bet he was some evil witch.

Anyways, so they pretty much got married and one by one, she kept signing things to his name except one thing that Dad left under my name, but I couldn't stay long to claim it, it's still mine though they won't be able to sign anything without me," I explained, only telling half the story, he stared at me, listening carefully

I know my mother, the hole my dad left in her heart and her loneliness was eating her away, that made her an easy target and more vulnerable to his manipulation and she liked the attention she was getting, even if it was fake.

"How come you left?" He asked,

"My family were a bunch of idiots. They all changed their names to Smith but I refused to change mine and fought a lot with them about that because it basically showed that I didn't accept them, which is true.

Eventually, I became the outsider of my own family, my own mother sometimes forgot about me and my 'new dad' and 'sisters' would leave me out on purpose. Pretty much bullied me around the house and school. I eventually got fed up, I was planning my escape for years so I worked a bunch of jobs to be able to save up enough so I can move and I finally did,"

"Wow, Ava, I'm sorry you had to go through that But I'm gald you moved and are finally free, " Kai pulls me into a hug, I hold onto him tighter, hiding myself in his arms

"It's not your fault," I whispers

Kai pulls away, joining our hands, "You should go back to claim your property, because it's the last thing your dad left for you and it's rightfully yours so you shouldn't let them take that away from you to,"

I nod, "I want to," but I'm scared

Kai places his hands around my face, lifting it up to meet his eyes, "Ava, you don't need to be afraid of them anymore, this time I'll be there with you,"

"Damn right you will be because if I go, I ain't going alone," Kai lightly chuckles at my response and nods

"Ava, listen, don't ever doubt my feelings for you because what an outsider says, if I say like you then I like you and if I, don't think I ever will, stop liking you I'll tell you myself. So the only thing you should ever have to worry about is...Why they haven't released new episodes of your favourite cartoon," Kai smiles at his success of coming up with something that 'Ava' would worry about. And his damn right, that should be my only worry, but damn life!

"Thank you so much Kai," I pull Kai closer into a hug, burying my face in his neck

I like this warmth

"Ava, move your feet from my face," Kai says, flipping through the channels

"Your toes are cold,"

"Stop putting your toe up my nose,"

"You're poking my eyes,"

"Sure just go ahead and wipe your toes on my shirt,"

"I'm boredeeeeeeed!" I loudly groan, putting my feet on the top of the couch, while I lay slanted on the couch

"Watch tv,"

"You're such a boring old man," I pull a face at Kai and try and turn my neck around to look at the tv screen but fail

"You're gonna break your neck," Kai says, without even looking at me

"Stop being much a middle-aged old grey haired man," I try and sit up straight this time and after a little struggle and little bit of kicking Kai I finally manage to do it

"I'm only 23 and my hair is still shiny brown," Kai says, this time turning to give me a playful glare

Giving him a flat look, I stand up straight, "keep telling yourself that, I'm going out,"

"Wait, at 2AM?" Kai grabs my wrist, stopping me

"What? Why not? Some shops are open 24/7," shaking his hand of, I walk towards the door

"Wait," Kai calls, walking behind me

"Are-what the hell!" Before I could finish something gets thrown over my face, from the smell of expensive cologne and one Kai wore very often, I could tell whatever it was, it belonged to Kai.

"At least take a jacket, let's go,"

Removing the massive jacket from my face, I put it on and follow behind Kai who had also thrown a jacket on.

This jacket smells nice.

"Okay, where to?" Kai asks as we sat inside the car

The leather seat of the car cause me to flinch and shiver as it comes in contact with my bare legs.

I kinda regret not wearing trousers and walking out in PJ shorts, at least Kai's jacket helps cover up a little.

"Anywhere with bright lights and food available," I say, putting my seat belt on as Kai drives ahead, speeding down the half-empty road

"I spot McDonald's!" I cheer, pointing at the McDonald's ahead

Kai follows my direction and heads for the McDonald's drive-thru

"Is he asleep?" I whisper to Kai as we both intently watch the McDonald's worker sleeping while standing up

Is that even possible

Actually yes it is, I do it all the time at work.

"I think so," Kai whispers back.

I lean more forward, staring at the sleeping man, "should we wake him up or run off with the ice cream machine,"

"The ice cream machines broken!" The worker suddenly wakes up, instantly on alert, causing me to jump backwards.

I try my best not to laugh at his face but Kai just goes ahead and chuckles, holding in his full laugh.

"I'm so sorry," the worker apologises, looking embarrassed.

After having a short conversation with the worker, we both order and start driving back or more like driving around randomly.

"Ava, my fries," Kai says opening his mouth, waiting

Oops I forgot

"There's no fries left," I lie, while munching on the fries

"You ate both of them, you only gave me one," he frowns

"Stop whining, you're an old man, therefore, you shouldn't eat these junk food, what if you have a heart attack," I secretly shove more fries into my mouth

"What's with you calling me an old man today, I'll have to you know-mmm," before Kai could start his 'I'm a young man' lecture I shove few fries into his mouth

"Liar," he says lowly

"Pants on fire," I finish

Kai drives around the empty roads as the radio quietly plays in the background, pretty much covered by our talks and laughter.

When we fall into a calming silence, a wave of tiredness hits me, causing me to slowly fall into a peaceful slumber

"Good night," I hear Kai's voice in the background, I try and mumbling back a 'good night'.
