Okay, this is easy.

"Ava, please, you're acting like you're actually going to meet your boyfriend's dad," he states, as we both stand outside the big mansion door.

"Come on, I think we're late enough," Kai says, pulling me inside as he pushes the white doors open

You think!

Kai made us leave the house at exactly 7, the time we were supposed to be here by and it toke like half an hour due to all the traffic, obviously he didn't care since we had to make a bad impression anyways.

"You're late," A deep chilling voice stated as we entered the mansion, "you'd think since, this is our first meeting you'd want to set a good impression," he continued.

Kai was like a mirror reflection of his dad, just much younger and sexy.

"Sorry, we got stuck in traffic," I silently mutter, which only causes Kai to squeeze my hand lightly. He probably wanted me to be rude but I didn't wanna get kicked out just yet, maybe after dinner.

FREE FOOD!

I don't miss the way Kai's dad takes in my appearance, specifically my dressing. Well, this wasn't exactly something you'd wear to meet your future father in law for the first time. Black joggers and a white tee, I look as though I just got out of bed and decided to suddenly meet my future father in law for the first time.

I did pick simple jeans and top but Kai said, "Nah looks to presented, something messier."

Not complaining though since it was comfortable but embarrassing at the same time.

Kai's dad simply shakes his head and walks ahead, Kai following behind him.

"He hates it," Kai whispers, smiling as he leaned into my ear, just for me to hear. Psycho!

"Take a seat, don't want food to get cold again," his father ordered, sitting in the head seat while I and Kai sat together to his left.

We silently eat, the only sound heard was cutlery clashing against each other.

And I for one hated silence. Especially awkward silence

"What is this place? A haunted house," I silently muttered to myself obviously, the quietness of the room managed to make my words loud and clear.

I notice as Kai's hand moves up, to stop me but he catches himself as he places it back down realising this would help with 'mission: make him hate me'

I look up to see his fathers jaw clenched, pretending to not have heard me as he continues to carry on eating.

"Full name?" He asks, looking up from his plate.

What is this a job interview?

Well kinda...

"Ava Dawson," I reply, cutting my roast chicken.

I watch as Kai's father silently chants 'Dawson', trying to find a link when I cut him off, "you probably won't find my family history by chanting Dawson also, I'm from London so I doubt you know them."

"Your dad, Andrew Smith?" Damn it

"Stepdad. But, don't be expecting to get any fortune out from me cuz, I got nothing old man," I state knowingly,  as I chew on my chicken, not glancing at his face.

I could feel Both the men staring at me, but deciding to ignore them, I carry on eating this really good food.

We need a nickname for Kai's father, since saying 'his father' is too long. How about Grumpy, Nah, 'I hate you' man, too long, I need one word describing him.

Squidward!

"I am speaking to you," Kai's fath- I mean, Squidward's voice bringing me back to reality.

"Sorry, what was that?" I ask, looking up from my plate. However, he doesn't seem happy repeating himself as he intakes a breath and repeats his question, which only caused me to choke, "how far along are you in your pregnancy?"

His question suddenly causes me to choke as I was about to take a nice sip of my water, Kai gently pats my back as I turn to glare at him, he only nudges his head forward, encouraging me to answer the question.

His no help!

Well, I didn't wanna lie because I didn't need a rich goon at my doorstep in 9 months asking for his grandchild.

"Well that was a mistake actually, I made sure to check again and I can confirm that I am NOT pregnant." I explain, I don't miss the way Squidward's face falls in disappointment letting out a silent 'oh'.

"Then when did you guys get engaged?" He asks, pushing his empty plate forward.

I look at Kai, who was enjoying his chicken clearly not bothered with the questions his father was asking me.

Ugh! This guy!

Ignoring him ignoring my presence and not helping me out I decide to answer for myself, "actually we meet like a few months ago and Kai seemed have loved me straight away-" I get cut off when Kai starts erupting into a fit a coughs, Lifting my hand up to gently pat his back while still facing Squidward, "as I was saying, Kai had fallen head over heels for me and wanted to marry me straight away. He. Slap. Just Couldn't. Double Slap. Wait." I finish, each word making sure to pat his back.

"Okay okay I'm fine now, no need to abuse my back," Kai says, muttering the last words as he takes my hand to place it on the table.

Squidward follows Kai's move as he narrows his eyes at my left hand that was placed on the table.

"I see no ring?" He states, causing both me and Kai to turn to each other clearly shocked as we forgot something so basic.

"You lost the ring?" Kai accuses, pretending to be shocked as I mirrored his expression mine more real as I was actually taken back because he just dug me a hole and shoved me inside it, and closed the damn lid on me.

I narrowed my eyes at him as I clenched my teeth replying, "it was so ugly that the bin man toke it mistaking it for garbage."

Kai clearly looks taken back by my response and so does Squidward as the whole room just stayed silent for a moment when a little snort broke the silence.

Our heads instantly turn to the sound, Squidward. The shock was clear on our faces as the man knew how to even snort.

"Father, just give me a moment I'd like to talk to my fiancée outside for a moment," Kai says, not waiting for a response, he grabs my hand pulling me away from the dining room and to a room which seemed like the living room.

"He snorted, this is not a good sign," he sighs, pacing back and forth in the room.

Seriously?

"Don't worry, I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve," I say, holding Kai's shoulder to stop him from moving, "stop doing that you're giving me a headache."

"What tricks exactly?" He asks. Ok maybe I lied

"Maybe insult him a little," I suggest, shrugging my shoulders.

"Yes! Do that," Kai cheers, pointing his finger, wow he really wants him to hate me, he grabs my hand to pull me back into the dining room where the dirty plates have now magically disappeared, left with three white mugs.

Ghost maids

"Ava seemed to not like the ring," Kai says, taking a seat.

"Yeah, you should've seen that piece of dump," I add, taking my seat and inspecting the mug on the table.

Where's dessert?

"It was a diamond ring," Kai grits, glaring at me. "Yeah puke colour diamond," I state, innocent smile on my face.

"Enough," Squidward finally decides to cut us off, as he looked done with our shit.

"Are you sure you want to carry on this marriage before you let the Media and everyone know?" He asks, sipping on his drink and this time Kai finally decides to open his mouth.

"We'll give it a little more time," Kai says, drinking whatever was in his mug. I decide to take a sip of whatever this was in the mug when I notice Kai bringing his hands up to stop me, I shake my hand at him, stopping him and taking a sip.

I spit the drink back in my mug while pulling a disgusted face.

"You don't like?" Squidward asks, clearly have witnessed my little scene

"How the hell do you drink this?" I ask, pushing the cup away.

"You get used to it," Kai answers, gracefully sipping his drink

Eeeww

"No wonder both of you are so bitter, You guys should try hot chocolate," I suggest, wiping around my mouth with the napkin set on the table.

My eyes fall on Kai as I notice him nudging his head forward telling me to start 'mission: insult him'

Okay, let's go!

"So-"I start trailing not really sure where I was going with this, "where do you work?" Squidward asks, cutting me off.

Rude

"I work in a cafe," I reply, Squidward doesn't seem pleased with my response as he adds, "you own a cafe,"

"No, like literally work there. Serving customers, making drinks, cleaning the tables and sometimes even taking the bins out," I explain, looking up to meet his wide eyes clearly not impressed.

"Is that a problem?" I asked, lifting my eyebrows up.

"If the media or any other companies get a hold of this it won't be very good," Squidward says.

"Why?-" this time Kai cuts me of, "a job is a job, who cares what others have to say."

STOP CUTTING ME OF!

But true.

"I believe so," Squidward grumbled, glaring at his mug.

"So-" I start trailing of again trying to actually find something to say, "You live by yourself in this big place?" I ask.

"Yes." He simply responds

"Does Casper come to visit once in a while?"I ask, seriously.

"Casper?" He questions, confused.

"You know the friendly ghost," I clear his confusion.

"How old are you exactly?" He asks, causing me to dramatically gasp, "it's rude to ask a lady her age," I say

I don't miss Kai whisper under his breath, "lady my ass."

"Just asking since you seem like a child to me," he states, another dramatic gasp escaping me.

Correct - rightfully 19 but, mentally 6

"And what are you like 50? Your receding hairline is visible from space, you know what your hair is pretty much vanishing into thin air." yes finally an insult even it's a bad one, it's still mean.

I look at Kai who had his drink to his lips, covering his smile.

I hear a crash, like plates falling to the floor and breaking into a million pieces like how I was probably about to be.

However, I start thinking otherwise when a chuckle breaks the silence.

It wasn't Kai

It wasn't me

We slowly turn our head to Squidward who's a body was shaking from him chuckling

Damn it

"I like you." He says, leaving both me and Kai dumbfounded. Clearly, nothing was going according to plan.

What now?
