Chapter 28

"Up!" Jesse yelled, "up the vines!"

Rory made me go up the vines first. I'm sure that if they were normal vines I wouldn't have been able to climb them, but because Minecraft logic, I was able to.

Rory came up after me, then Jesse.

We looked over the edge at the zombies.

"Beat that, zombie scum!" Rory yelled.

Jesse laughed.

I looked to my right, seeing the path that everyone else was on. Our paths weren't connected, just like in the game.

"We need to find a place where the paths connect!" Olivia called.

"Alright, we'll meet you over there!" Jesse shouted back.

I shuffled a bit to my right, giving Rory some space.

The others walked off the find where the paths connect.

Lukas gave one last glance at us.

"Alright," Jesse surveyed the maze around us, "let's go...this way!"

Jesse started making her way in the direction of Ivor's lab. Rory and I followed.

---------------

"Look at 'em," Falconblaze snarled, "war is coming and they're all lovey dovey!"

Falconblaze gestured to Runningsun and Shrewpaw. They were making affectionate moves around each other, licking eachother's cheeks and rubbing their cheeks together.

"You just don't understand 'cus you're asexual." Foxspirit defended.

Falconblaze growled, tail lashing. This had been the eighth time Froswish had taken them all out herb hunting, and of course Wolfshine was the only one actually helping.

"Do you remember that glowing green cat we saw on WindClan territory?" Foxspirit asked, changing the subject.

"It was weird." Falconblaze huffed, "but not the weirdest thing we've seen."

"It's bordering pretty high on weird."

"The weirdest thing I've seen..." Falconblaze licked her paw casually, "...is you!"

"Hey!"

Falconblaze let out a mrrow of laughter.

------------------

Jesse got confused after a while, so Rory took over the leading and lead us in the right direction, to the machine and Olivia.

Reuben was there, too.

"Hey, Olivia." Jesse walked over to her friend.

The two engaged in conversation, leaving Rory and I to talk.

Rory didn't seem much for talking at the moment. He was muttering in French.

"What is it with you and French?" I asked.

"I am very fluent in it. It keeps my thoughts from you."

"Why would you want to do that?"

His purple eye glowed for a moment.

"Tout le monde garde secrets , parfois je fais, aussi, même de vous."

I recognised only the word 'secrets'.

"Rory," I said in a warning tone.

"Aza," Rory said in the same tone.

"I know what it is now!" Olivia exclaimed next to the machine.

Rory and I stopped talking and glanced over in her direction. Jesse was at the crafting table, getting the needed tools to start the machine.

The sight reminded me of science lessons.

I always screwed that up. The only subject I was actually good at was English, like, literacy, grammar, spelling, stuff like that. Never writing stories, though. I just couldn't write stories. I always told myself to ask Jesse Blackwoos for tips, but I was so shy then...

It felt like a million years a go. My personality had changed a bit...

I traded shyness for agitation. I traded uselessness for hopelessness.

Jesse placed blocks in the right places. I walked over.

"What does this do?" I asked innocently.

"It will get us across." Olivia gestured to Ivor's lab, obviously excited.

I nodded, and Rory came up next to me, studying the machine.

Reuben oinked, maybe in approval.

"Run! Run!"

Lukas, Petra and Soren came out from the maze, followed by a horde of zombies.

Rory flinched and put a hand over his purple eye.

"Everyone onto the barge!" Jesse shouted.

Olivia was the first one on. I clambered on quickly after, and helped Rory on. His purple eye was glowing, I could see the light underneath his hand.

Petra, Lukas and Soren got on. Jesse got the machine going, and we started moving with a lurch, forcing me to sit down.

"Hurry up, Jesse!" Olivia urged.

Jesse jumped on to the barge.

We all panted.

One zombie fell off the edge of the cliff, which would have been funny another time.

"You okay?" I asked Rory.

"My eye," Rory whined, "it hurts! All of the zombies were like...bright lights. Purple lights, and so many of them hurt! I know Endermen don't hurt, but zombies do!"

He sunk down. I put an arm around his shoulder while he whimpered.

There was a silence.

"I think I remember something." Petra broke the silence.

"What is it?" Jesse asked.

"Uh...a bridge...I jumped off with someone else...and...a fireworks machine...two people with tickets..." Petra put a hand to her head.

"You jumped off the bridge with me, Petra!" Jesse exclaimed, "and the fireworks machine was Axel's, Olivia's, and mine! The two people with tickets would be Aza and Rory."

Rory took his hand away from his eye. I turned my body around so that it was facing his.

"Better?" I whispered.

"Better." Rory said.

"It's fading...fading...and...gone..." Petra sighed.

Rory pressed our foreheads together gently. My whole childhood was with him. Sleepovers, school...

I missed Annabeth's cookies.

I pulled away from him as the machine stopped. There was Ivor's lab, and of course he had to put it in the most...

I groaned inwardly.

Everyone got off. We sort of stared at Ivor's lab for a while.

"That was amazing!" Petra exclaimed suddenly, grinning at us, "geddit? A-MAZE-ing?"

I chuckled.

Lukas gave me a look.

"I can't believe you thought that was funny." Lukas said.

"What? It was a cute joke," I remembered those times just using my tablet at Rory's place, staring at...

I grinned.

"Besides, I'm aMAZEd that you didn't think it was funny." I winked at Lukas.

Lukas rolled his eyes at me, but smiled anyway.

Rory raised his hand for a high-five and I slapped his hand. He grinned at me.

Then we entered Ivor's lab.

These puns are sansational.

No, really, they're asriel as it gets.

I need to write these down on my papyrus.

Sometimes my mind doesn't work, and I have to Pokemon.

But now, to read, my eyes are feeling a little SOREn.
