Chapter 23

I held my breath until she let go.

"I'm sure you'll find him." Petra said.

"Uh..." My face felt like it was on fire." I hope so."

What would happen when Petra got her memories back? She would probably be disgusted with her formerly dorky self for hugging me.

The only ones who hugged me were Rory and Annabeth. Sometimes Rory's dad, David.

I could faintly hear shouting. Soren and Ivor. I couldn't be bothered seeing those faces. I didn't like either of them. Besides, they used the Command Block. They caused the Witherstorm.

Petra smiled at me.

-----------------

"...if she hadn't said anything? Buddy... you'd be dead where you stand."

Jay wasn't intimidated by Sans.

"Thanks for dinner." Jay said. "You're paying, right?"

The skeleton shrugged. "they'll put it on my tab."

Jay chuckled. "God, how much do owe?"

Sans shrugged again, concerned about nothing.

Jay's mind was elsewhere. She thought about the small glimpses of  animals and people she'd had in her dreams.

Six cats. Four female. Two male.

Two dragons. Two people who would ride them.

Two Pokèmon. A Pikachu. An Eevee.

Two wolves. One was called Fawn. Jay knew that much. From school?

One person made of squares. A Minecraft person. There had been another figure, but his features were blurred...

Sans left.

It was time to go to the Core. Time to confront Asgore.

------------------

The Witherstorm had gotten closer. Everyone was outside.

"Screw the Witherstorm." I growled. "Do you hear me? SCREW YOU!"

"Stop shouting." Axel said.

"She does have a point though." Petra defended me.

"What point?" Axel asked.

"The Witherstorm sucks." Petra snickered.

I facepalmed.

Then Jesse came over to us, and I knew what we were going to do next.

----------------

Shrewpaw pressed up to Runningsun. Foxspirit's hackles rose. Falconblaze growled. Wolfshine unsheathed her claws. Frostwish flattened her ears.

And Tigerstar growled.

It was a growl that echoed through the almost pitch-black forest of their dreams. It wasn't the Dark Forest, it was worse. It was where the mist cats stayed.

Tigerstar's amber eyes glowed. He couldn't hurt them. Not yet. If he tried, is fur would turn into mist. But they couldn't hurt him, either.

"I'll get you rogues soon." The tabby spat.

Falconblaze raised her chin, a fire in her eyes. "The only rogue here is you, Tigerstar."

"But soon, you'll all be dead." Tigerstar swiped the air. "We will cleanse the forest."

"Or maybe we'll cleanse the forest of you." Foxspirit hissed.

"It will be easy to kill your little kit over there." Tigerstar flicked his tail at Shrewpaw.

Shrewpaw bristled. Runningsun hissed at Tigerstar, flexing his claws.

Tigerstar studied the two before flattening his ears.

"You two are..." He had no words. "You disgust me. Two toms, mates?"

"They're twenty times the cat you are." Wolfshine meowed.

"But soon, you won't be a cat." Runningsun raked his claws across the ground.

Soon, the battle would begin. Clans against Dark Forest cats, StarClan against mist cats. The humans-turned-cats against all.

And foxes would aid the Clans.

---------------

What happened next happened just like in the game.

Axel got the Amulet and left.

Ellegaard was staying back with Gabriel.

Lukas was staying. That was good.

We had begun the journey to Ivor's lab.

Petra was on the back of Olivia's horse, leaving me by myself.

The only sounds were the horse's hooves hitting the ground, and the occasional oink from Reuben.

A song was playing in my head. It wasn't to do with the situation I was in. It wasn't about romance, either. Back home it was so hard to find a song that wasn't about romance.

Hey, once upon a younger year,

When all our shadows disappeared,

The animals inside came out to play.

Hey, went face to face with all our fears,

Learned our lessons through the tears,

Made memories we knew would never fade.

"What are you humming?" Jesse asked.

"Something." I hadn't realised I was humming.

"Well, stop, it's annoying." Ivor grumbled.

I shrugged and delved back into the song.

One day my father—he told me,

"Son, don't let it slip away."

He took me in his arms, I heard him say,

"When you get older

Your wild heart will live for younger days

Think of me if ever you're afraid."

I noticed Petra look at me curiously.

Did I got cross-eyed?

Maybe I did.

The thought didn't last long.

There was a nearby cave, and heavy footsteps were coming our way.

"A monster?" Olivia peered at the cave.

"It could be a creeper." Petra whimpered.

I stopped my horse and slid off. "Don't worry, I got this."

I unsheathed my sword and crept towards the cave. Nobody objected.

Then I saw what it was.

Saw his light brown hair.

His white shirt with red suspenders.

His silver eyes.

I dropped my sword, eyes wide.

His eyes met mine.

Then...

He gave me his trademark.

His goofy grin.
