Football Game
As I made my way to the bleachers by the football field I thought back to my day. Just like I expected, I was the talk of the school. I guess I picked the right guy to kiss because it turns out that Parker Flynn is the star wide receiver for the football team, and a very popular guy.
My first two classes weren't very hectic seeing as word about what happened hadn't spread yet, but by lunch everyone was either gawking at me or avoided looking at me all together.
This is by far the best impression I've made on a new school. Even better than when I pulled the fire alarm before every class on my first day at my last school. I got suspended for a week for that stunt, but when I got back to school everyone in my grade knew who I was. But this is different. This time everyone in the school knew my name, even the teachers. I could tell by how they looked at me and introduced me to the class, that they knew exactly what I'd done.
By the end of the day I also found out that this school is very accepting of all sexualities which is a good change from my other schools. It's nice that I can be myself here without the fear of judgement, or worse.
And the last thing I learnt today was that Parker Flynn had recently gone through a terrible break up. His ex boyfriend cheated on him.
I scanned the field for a certain jock as I took a seat on the second row of the bleachers. My eyes instantly landed on the blonde with that always present smirk on his face.
I took in his tall frame as he gracefully ran across half of the field and effortlessly caught the ball being thrown to him. I didn't even bother to look at the other players warming up, my eyes were glued to Parker. And my heartbeat picked up when his playful eyes found mine for a moment before he focused on throwing the ball back.
Even from the sidelines, I didn't miss the light blush on his cheeks when he looked at me. I knew he was remembering the kiss that happened this morning, just like I was.
My hand mindlessly went up to ruffle my mop of brown hair but froze when I realized that I didn't have the same haircut anymore. Before moving here I decided that I needed a change. I wanted a fresh start, and at the time I thought that getting a buzz cut would be a good idea. I figured I'd look older and more intimidating without my long hair falling in front of my dark brown eyes, but I was seriously regretting my decision now.
Messing with my hair was a comforting gesture I did, and now that I couldn't do it anymore I felt nervous and exposed. Which certainly didn't have anything to do with the fact that Parker kept stealing glances at me. Thankfully the football game started moments later and the blonde didn't have time to look my way anymore. I was free to watch him the whole game without being caught.
Halfway though the game a conversation behind me caught my attention.
"Is that Dylan Fletcher?" One girl asked.
I subtly glanced back and saw that she was directing the question at the two girls on either side of her.
"I think so." One girl replied.
I rolled my eyes, they weren't even trying to keep quiet. I could clearly hear everything they were saying. When you're talking about someone behind their back, you usually want to make sure they don't know you're doing it.
"Did you hear what he did this morning?" The other girl asked.
I wasn't surprised by her question, but the answer she received caught me off guard.
"I saw it, it was the cutest thing I've ever seen. They'd make a great couple."
That girl is delusional. I'm not looking for a boyfriend, I was just trying to get my name out there. I don't need to get attached to someone and have to deal with the heartbreak of leaving them at the end of the year. If I didn't move to a new place at least once a year, sure, I'd consider it. But I don't have that luxury.
After that last comment from the group behind me, I tuned them out and focused back on the game.
When the buzzer signalling the end of the game went off, everyone cheered. We won by fourteen points thanks to Parker. I can see why he's as popular as he is, he's an amazing player.
I waited for everyone else to leave the stands before I lazily made my way back to my car. I wasn't in a rush to get home. But just before I got to the parking lot, I heard two people arguing by the door that led to the gym.
"Can you just forgive me? It was a mistake and it won't happen again." A guy begged.
This could be interesting. Since I didn't have any plans for the rest of the day, and I'm a nosy bastard, I decided to listen in on the conversation.
"You cheated on me, I don't want anything to do with you. Leave me alone." A second guy responded.
I studied the two guys and saw that it was Parker and probably his ex by the sound of their conversation.
"Get over it. You know we're right for each other. You need me." The ex argued, taking a step into Parker's personal space.
I could tell by the way he stood that Parker was uncomfortable with their close proximity, and against my better judgement I decided to help him out.
"The guy said leave him alone. I suggest you listen." I spoke up, walking over to them.
The ex looked back at me and took a step away from Parker when he saw the dangerous glint in my eyes. When I wanted to, I could look intimidating. I was a well enough built guy, and I was a bit above average height, towering over Parker's ex's small frame, so all three of us knew I could mess this little guy up if I wanted to.
"Get out of here." I demanded, taking a threatening step closer to the pathetic cheater in front of me.
Without a word, the guy walked away and I smirked after him.
"You okay?" I asked, turning my attention to Parker when his ex was a good distance away.
"You didn't need to do that." He said, looking down at his feet so he didn't have to meet my eyes, his usually smirk nowhere to be found.
I looked him over as I replied, "I wanted to."
I knew he didn't need my help, he was taller and in way better shape than me, he could handle his scrawny ex, but I felt the need to help him out.
Or maybe I just needed an excuse to talk to him.
"Well, thanks I guess." He muttered, finally looking me in the eye.
I could see a battle going on in his, a range of emotions swirling around in those blue orbs, but I couldn't pick any out. There were too many.
Absentmindedly my eyes slid down to his full pink lips and I was transported back to the kiss this morning. I could still feel how soft they were against mine.
I could kiss him right now if I really wanted to.
Sure I wasn't looking for a relationship, but he probably wasn't either. He just got out of one, he needs a rebound right now, not anything serious. I could be that.
I know I shouldn't act on my urges. I should walk away right now and forget the kiss this morning even happened, but that's not what I did.
"Screw it." I whispered to myself as I closed the space between us and pressed my lips against his for the second time today.
This time Parker didn't freeze or fight it, he responded instantly.
Taking me by surprise, he spun us around and pushed me up against the wall, his lips never leaving mine.
As our mouths moved in sync I grabbed a fist full of his jersey and pulled him closer, and he wrapped his arms around my waist, pressing our bodies together.
I felt light headed when he nipped my bottom lip to deepen the kiss, and I granted him access. I've kissed guys before, but none of them made me feel like this.
When the kiss ended Parker leaned his forehead against mine for a moment before pulling away and turning around to leave.
"4683 Clement Road, after party for winning our game, maybe I'll see you there." He called over his shoulder, his voice calm and strong despite the kiss we just shared. I could almost hear the smirk on his face.
Did it not affect him at all? If I tried to speak right now I'd sound like a thirteen year old boy that just started going through puberty.
Well played Parker Flynn.
But two can play at that game.
