Chapter 17

The four boys made their way back to the Observation room to go over their Battle Trial. Izuku, Kirishima, and Mairu were in good spirits, though Kirishima was a little down that he wasn't able to compete against Izuku. He tried to say it wasn't manly that he could barely put up a fight, but both Izuku and Mairu lifted his spirits. Mairu pointed out how well Kirishima always did against him, and there were very few things that could outlast Kirishima.

Izuku praised his progress, and the fact that he had such great control over his Unbreakable form already. He even said that Izuku had to concentrate very hard to keep Kirishima from breaking out of Black Whip, because that could easily spell disaster for Izuku if he weren't fully aware.

While the three chatted amicably, Bakugo stalked a couple of yards behind them. He was scowling, his teeth grit, but also with a slight smirk. He had something that could bring that Deku tumbling down from the pedestal he somehow found his way up. And it wouldn't take much effort from Bakugo at all.

The group arrived back at the Observation Lounge to congratulations from most of the class. Nakagami quickly walked up to Kirishima, embracing him while also speaking reassurances. It was brief, but impactful to the red head as they joined the rest of the class, most of who were speaking excitedly until Aizawa stepped forward. The class all turned their attention to their homeroom teacher.

"Before All Might and I explain our critique of the first Battle, would anyone like to give their own insights on what occurred? How things could have played differently? How the Defenders could have achieved victory?" There was a momentary silence before Momo raised her hand. Aizawa nodded for her to speak.

"I will say that the biggest reason the Rescuers won was planning and teamwork," she began. "They knew Bakugo would come for them, so they utilized that knowledge, as a good Hero should, to properly come up with a strategy. Any information you have available regarding your opponents, whether it be their Quirk or their behavioral patterns, you should factor in. However, you should also consider whether the information you have is up to date or not." She paused.

"We could not hear their comms," she continued, "but I believe that's why they thought it best for Satoshi to stall Bakugo, while Izu- excuse me- Midoriya went to find Kirishima and the Hostage. It's true they could have taken Bakugo on together, and did the same with Kirishima, but, as their information was incomplete, they didn't know if that would have taken away the time they had."

"On the other hand, the Defenders had no plan other than Bakugo going after the Rescuers, leaving Kirishima to plan how to defend alone. He was clearly outclassed in combat...no offense Kirishima..." At this Kirishima shrugged, but smiled, as he knew Momo was just analyzing, much like Izuku does and would. "The only option he could have had I'm not sure if the parameters of the exercise would allow..." She looked to Aizawa with that question.

"And what do you think that would be?" Aizawa said, in an amused tone. He was also impressed, though gave no outward signs as such. And, if their written exams for entrance were any indication, he knew she and Izuku were highly intelligent, and great with analysis. He had considered hiding their results from Nezu, but the Rat had gotten to them before he could implement anything and, well...he was pretty sure the Principal would have two personal students soon. He refocused as Momo answered him.

"He could have moved the dummy out of the building and to another location," she said. A few students looked incredulous at the thought, but Izuku was smiling widely, beaming at his girlfriend for her thought process. It was something he would have done had he been the Defender.

"The parameters weren't entirely clear," Aizawa responded, also slightly smiling, though managing to hide it behind his scarf. "And that would have been an excellent strategy. However, now that it has been mentioned, the other Defender groups will be required to keep the dummy their protecting in the one building." He paused to let the information sink in.

"Good," he said. "Yaoyorozu's analysis is correct, and the answer we would have had. Now...who could tell me who the MVP of the match was?" There was only a moment before almost everyone said "Midoriya." though some of the responses were more question than straight answer.

"Why is that?" he followed up. "Someone other than Yaoyorozu, please." Everyone looked thoughtful before one of the boys, one with blond hair with a black lightning bolt, cautiously raised his hand.

"Kaminari," Aizawa nodded.

"Um..." Kaminari was hesitant with his answer. "We couldn't really hear what they said, but, just from what we saw, it looked like Midoriya was talking the most, while Satoshi nodded along to most of whatever was said. So, I know we shouldn't assume, but..." he gestured, trying to get the point across. Aizawa understood. It was harder for Kaminari to put his thoughts into words. Believed to be a side-effect of over use of his Quirk over time, but something Aizawa and UA would do their best to help him with.

"Thank you, Kaminari," Aizawa responded, and Kaminari visibly relaxed. "Kaminari brings up a good point about noticing the actions and how they can appear to relate to others, even and especially when you aren't able to hear them. You shouldn't rely on assumptions, but, if you have enough evidence, you can cautiously approach situations a certain way until and unless those are disproved."

The class seemed to take everything Aizawa said in stride, ensuring to congratulate Izuku and Mairu, while giving props to Kirishima. Bakugo waited, the anticipation that would bring everything crashing down on the worthless Deku. Before Aizawa could move on, Bakugo spoke, loudly, for everyone to turn their attention to him.

"Tell me, Deku," he said, growling the name. Izuku's brow only furrowed, ready for anything Bakugo could throw at him. "What did a Quirkless loser like you do to fake a Quirk like that? Or have you been hiding it all this time, looking down on everyone like you did to Shitty Hair in there? Bet you look down on the whole class now. How would everyone feel about that?"

His mouth grew into a snarling , triumphant-looking grin. He had Deku right where he wanted him. He just had to drive it home.

"You told us when we were four that the doctor said you didn't have a Quirk," he continued. "That you could never be a Hero. Now that everyone knows the truth, they can prove that doctor right." He was sure he had done it. He even saw how some of the others had turned towards the Deku. He couldn't see their faces, but he was sure they were looking at him with disgust.

Until everyone turned to glare at him. Like he had done something wrong. What? His smile started to fade, especially when he saw the look on his teachers' faces. The look on All Might's face. All Might wasn't smiling. He heard the nerd sigh.

"I don't owe you an explanation, Bakugo," he began, his viridian eyes piercing Bakugo's own. "But since you decided to air everything to the rest of the class, I'll be open with them." He then turned to the rest of the class and addressed them.

"Bakugo is right about one thing he said," he started. "The doctor when I was four diagnosed me as Quirkless. Because I hadn't shown any signs of a Quirk...but more importantly because I had an extra toe joint in my foot." Before he continued, another student, Mezo Shoji, spoke up.

"Wasn't that proven to be erroneous a couple of years back?" he said. Izuku nodded as he continued.

"It was," he replied. "Which is why that doctor and others like him were, from my understanding, discredited. I am a false negative. My Quirk didn't activate until a little less than a year before the Entrance Exams. A few days after the Sludge Villain accident. Apparently, my Quirk had a fail safe that prevented activation or any other signs since the pure energy output could have torn a 4-year old apart. I needed a certain muscle mass, something I attained from my training to get into UA. That and the...jolt...of the accident, caused my Quirk to manifest. And yes, I was going to attempt the entrance exam thinking I was Quirkless."

"You know we believed you could do it," Kirishima said, his hand reassuringly on his shoulder.

"Why not?" Hagakure said. "I mean, my Quirk only makes me Invisible. It gives me stealth, yes, but I still had to work hard to be able to pass the entrance exam. And even then, most of my points were by disabling the robots by sneaking up on them. Doesn't help me in combat. I basically fight Quirkless."

"As do I," Aizawa intervened. "But this discussion can be tabled. For now...All Might." The Number One hero looked to the Underground Hero. "Watch over the class until I get another teacher out here to oversee your lesson, which you can then continue." He then turned his eye and glared at a certain blonde. "Bakugo. Follow me."

As he left, with a completely deflated Bakugo, he couldn't help but here something that piqued his interest coming from the most recent talk of the class.

"Hey, Hagakure," Izuku said. "I don't think your Quirk is actually Invisibility."
