Chapter 14

Aizawa walked ahead of the two students as they made their way to their destination. Honestly, he would have been more than happy to just let the students go about their day, as everyone had shown the potential to be a Hero, but things had changed since preparations for the start of the school year, and truly began in earnest at the teachers' meeting that took place shortly after the Entrance Exams.

Flashback

Aizawa hated these initial meetings for the upcoming school year. He honestly felt that the bulk of the information they received during these meetings could be done through email. It took away any additional time he had for sleeping. Which was one thing he would never admit to anyone that he hated about himself.

He was tired...all of the time. It was own fault, he knew that. He had never truly gotten acclimated to being a teacher as well as holding on to his Underground patrol schedule. With the amount of time he had spent on his Underground schedule, he had developed a form of insomnia for when he attempted to rest during the day time between his school schedule and his patrols, and he was usually wide awake at night, so realized trying to pull back on his patrol schedules wouldn't have really helped.

However, he had a feeling he would have to get acclimated soon for this school year. There had been word of some special announcements, one of which had been the inclusion of All Might as a teacher of UA this school year. To Aizawa, it didn't make sense, but they had been promised clarification during this meeting.

So, he was currently sitting between Present Mic, Hizashi Yamada, and Midnight, Nemuri Kayama, awaiting the arrival of Principal Nezu and All Might and the start of the meeting.

"You know, I've figured out a way to more or less keep your schedule while helping you sleep," Nemuri was telling him. This wasn't the first time she or Hizashi had brought up his lack of sleep and wanting to help. Though he rarely, if ever, showed it, he was grateful for his two friends. He sighed.

"Can you wait until this meeting is over to show me?" he asked, his tone neutral. Nemuri blinked a few times, waiting for Aizawa to hit her with one of ruses, telling her it would be illogical for him to change his habits so suddenly. When none came, she found her voice once more.

"You're actually going to accept our help this time?" she asked, though winced when he glared at her. "Sorry. Just use to you brushing us off." Aizawa sighed once more.

"It would be illogical for me to keep exhausting myself," he stated. "Plus, whatever the rat has to tell us is sure to have me need to start getting sleep."

"Right you are, Aizawa," Principal Nezu stated from his seat at the head of the table. Everyone looked over, only slightly startled at the Principal's sudden arrival. How does he do that? Everyone thought in unison, as the door to the conference room opened, and All Might stepped in. Nezu waited for everyone to get settled in before he began.

Most of the beginning meeting was basic information, schedules, going over which students who passed the exam would be in which Hero course class, to include the recommendation students. A lot of things that, again in Aizawa's mind, could have been handled through email. But then, Nezu through a huge wrench into the meeting by his next announcement.

"What you are about to see and hear does not leave this room," he said in an unusually serious, almost threatening, tone, and the entirety of the staff was quick to acknowledge Nezu's words. Once he received the acknowledgement, he turned to the newest staff member.

"All Might," he merely said. The Number One Hero nodded and, in a puff of smoke, revealed his emaciated form to his new co-workers. Everyone in the room save for Nezu and Recovery Girl, had looks of shock on their faces. Even Aizawa, as collected as he attempted to be, still widened his eyes at what he was seeing. Before anyone could ask for an explanation, All Might chimed in, pulling up his shirt to reveal his wound.

"I received this from a very powerful villain," he began, "and can now only maintain my buff form for about 3 hours a day, though that time will continue to shorten the longer I'm active." He gave a sigh. "Which is why, when it's officially announced that I've taken the teaching position at UA, I'll also announce my stepping back from Hero work, and this works two-fold..." he looked over to Nezu.

"One thing for certain is that the world has become far too reliant on All Might to solve all of it's problems," Nezu picked up the conversation. "This announcement will allow him to prepare for his retirement without causing a power vacuum. He can still act as a deterrent, with Villains knowing he will come in an emergency, but it allows the other Heroes to acclimate to the load he's been carrying.

"The other thing this will allow is for him to focus more on teaching. As his classes probably won't last past his time limit. As a precaution, which class he is teaching Heroics to will have their respective homeroom teacher present, both to oversee All Might's teaching, as he will be new to it, and to fill in should he need to drop his buff form. During the times he is not in class, he will be working on finalizing his teaching certifications."

Everyone nodded in understanding, aware of the impact such a situation had. Some were still speechless regarding the secret of All Might's condition. A few more things were discussed, mostly regarding how All Might's schedule was to work, before the meeting was wrapped up.

"Everyone except Aizawa and All Might are dismissed," Nezu said. Aizawa wondered what further matters the rat wished to discuss with him and the Number One Hero, but knew it to be of greater importance. He nodded to Hizashi and Nemuri, informing the latter that they would meet up after he was done regarding the sleep schedule.

"There are further things we need to discuss with you, Aizawa," Nezu said, once everyone had cleared the room. Again, his voice was rather serious. "Both to do with All Might, as well as the students of Class 1-A. I know you tend not to read the student files before your first class, so as not to form any bias, but I must tell you how imperative it is you do so this year. Mostly due with some things you'll find in there with some students that are in your class, you will need to have a better understanding of anything that may occur during your Assessment Test." He paused.

"I must also request you refrain from your normal threat of expulsion, as well as save any expulsions unless absolutely necessary with proper, document-able cause," he continued. Aizawa went to object, but Nezu held up a hand as he spoke again. "I understand your reasoning, but, with All Might being a teacher this year, UA will be under a microscope with every action taken. Something such as expulsions, even so students can understand and adjust as they need to, such as the case of Class 2-A, could be viewed very negatively if not given that just cause."

At this, Aizawa had to agree with the logic from the Principal. He may not have liked it, but that just meant he would really have to drill that importance into the students this year without the expulsion and re-enrollment strategy he had been using for them to take it seriously. He was really going to have to figure out how to get proper sleep, and hoped Nemuri had a solid plan.

"The other thing we need to discuss with you is in relation with one of your students and All Might." While saying this, Nezu passed one of the student files over to Aizawa. Aizawa looked at it, reading which student the file belonged to: Izuku Midoriya.

Flashback End

There was a lot Aizawa learned that day. From how the records for Midoriya had differed so much from his time at Aldera his first year and half of middle school, to what his record showed when he transferred to Mustafa Private. The name Aldera had stuck out to him. And then he had read Katsuki Bakugo's records. From Aldera. And the investigation that had occurred when an anonymous tip had brought up discrimination and illegal Quirk usage. Bakugo's record itself spoke volumes of the difference of before and after the investigation.

It allowed Aizawa to put two and two together. Due to responsibility falling more heavily on the former staff and administration of the school, Bakugo had still been allowed to apply and test for Hero schools. But UA had also left very little room should Bakugo step out of line. Which was what Aizawa was going to discuss with him. He was brought out of his memories as they reached the teacher lounge. They all entered.

"Bakugo, wait out here for a few moments," Aizawa said as he lead Todoroki to a side office. What he had to say to Todoroki wouldn't take as long, so he would knock that out first. Once in the office, Aizawa turned to the boy.

"You're not giving it your all," he stated, straight to the point. "You have talent, that much is obvious. But if you limit yourself to only half of your power, you'll fall behind, as well as run the risk of creating a dangerous situation should you encounter someone who resists or is immune to your ice, but would be taken care of with your fire. You also make a dangerous situation the longer you utilize just the ice. You start to get frostbite."

"I can be a Hero without his power," was all Todoroki said. Aizawa sighed. This was going to be difficult, that much was certain.

'Look," he responded. "Just think about what I said." Unfortunately, Aizawa's hands were tied in this situation, and he wouldn't be able to directly intervene without some sort of proof, regardless of how off everything felt with how Todoroki acted, as well as his record. Nevertheless, he dismissed the boy and told him to send Bakugo in. He didn't have to wait long for the ash blonde to join him, a mask of irritation clear on his face.

"I'm going to make one thing clear to you," Aizawa said, eyes leveling on the student. "With your current record, and what was uncovered during the investigation into Aldera, you are on thin ice and facing a three strike policy. If it were up to me, you'd already be expelled due to your little stunt during the Assessment Tests. As is, that has already acted as strike number one."

"It's that shitty Deku's fault for hiding his Quirk and looking down on me!" Bakugo said, the anger evident. Aizawa shook his head. There was so much wrong with just that one sentence that he could easily pick apart with the information from Midoriya's file and the results of the Aldera investigation.

"Regardless of the situation between you and Midoriya, it does not give you the right to assault another student with your Quirk unprovoked," Aizawa responded. "Whatever his Quirk situation is is not my business to tell other students without his permission." He paused to let the information sink in.

"As it is, the strike stands," he continued. "I suggest you make peace with that. I can't force it, but I would definitely recommend seeking counseling if you need help sorting out whatever issues you may have with the situation."

"I don't need some egg head trying to pick my brain and talk about my feelings," Bakugo bit back. Aizawa sighed once more. He knew this would not end well. Bakugo had the talent. Had the potential. But his complex would get in the way of all that.

"Very well, you are dismissed," Aizawa said. "Make sure to stop by the classroom after you change to pick up your syllabus and be ready for class tomorrow." With that, Bakugo left, not really changed aside from knowing he had to restrain himself if he wanted to stay at the school. And angry that he was put in that situation because of Deku.

He would find a way to get back at Deku and prove to everyone he was the best.

Aizawa set about finalizing paperwork before he would head home and get some rest. Nemuri's plan had been helping a lot, if not made things...different...between the two of them. Thoughts for another time.
