chapter 3 - chiron

"Drachma?" Chiron requested as soon as Percy and Annabeth were out of earshot. Grover understood and fished a golden drachma out of his pockets.

Chiron sprayed water from a bottle up into the air, using a glass pyramid to retract the light. He tossed the coin into the mist.

"O  Iris, goddess of the Rainbow, please accept my offering." The coin vanished.

"Show me Zoe Lee." An image of a girl appeared. She had blonde hair with pink streaks on the front, partially covered with a beanie. Her eyes were a stunning blue.

"Hello, Chiron." Zoe asserted, "You have to be careful when you Iris-message me. No one can know."

"Of course," Chiron replied. "They won't find out. What are your findings? Are your beliefs correct? Is she a demigod?"

"As far as I am concerned, yes. I saw straight through her Ladybug disguise when I first saw her. I recognized her as Marinette Dupain-Cheng, a girl in my class at school. I also noticed some interesting things about her partner, Chat Noir. His true identity is Adrien Agreste, a boy in our class as well, not to mention a famous model, the son of Gabriel Agreste, the fashion designer. Although I don't think he's a half-blood, he radiates a magic that goes beyond the power of his Miraculous."

"Interesting. But for now, leave Adrien Agreste alone. Continue to keep an eye on Ladybug until she shows any clear signs of being a demigod. If or when she does, take her to Camp Half-Blood. You'll have to make an excuse to get out of school and go back to New York. Be careful, Zoe. Pray to your father for luck. Don't get caught."

"I won't. And I've already prayed to Apollo countless times, but I guess one more time doesn't hurt. What's more luck? Bye, I need to go now." She swiped her hand through the mist, and the image vanished.

Chiron sighed, "Why did I think it would be a good idea to send a daughter of Apollo instead of a satyr?"

Sophie and Keefe spun the facet of Sophie's leap master, landing on Foxfire, their prestigious academy. One of Mr. Forkle's identities is Master Leto, the headmaster of Foxfire. Keefe and Sophie weren't surprised when their names were called on the loudspeaker to go to his office. Sophie thrust his office door open to see Master Leto sitting at his desk.

"Miss Foster. Mr. Sencen. Come with me. I need to show you something. It has to do with the Neverseen."

Sophie's heart sank. She had been hoping that the Neverseen's silence would give the teenagers a chance to actually live normal lives, for once. It turned out the only reason they hadn't attacked Sophie and her friends was because they were too busy scheming something new. He hooked his arms into Keefe and Sophie's, held up a crystal, and entered the light. They appeared in a vast field, with wildflowers and tall grass. Forkle led them underground into a small white egg-shaped room. It was completely empty except for a white desk and cameras. Cameras showed images of all around the world, and even multiple species.

"Look here," he pointed at one of the Parisian cameras. The image showed unmistakable cloaked figures with the insignia of an eye on their sleeves.

"The Neverseen." Sophie glared at the figures.

"My mom's probably there." Keefe blurted out miserably. Sophie scooched a little bit closer to him, attempting to console him. His mother was a sore subject for Keefe.

"We need to find out what they're doing back in Paris. We need a group to go." Mr. Forkle declared.

"Don't worry, Forklenator. We won't let you down."

After Foxfire ended, Sophie sent a transmission.

Guys, the Neverseen's back. I need your help to investigate. They're in Paris. Meet me at Havenfield in 30 minutes

6 out of the 7 people she had transmitted came. Wylie wanted to stay back to spend time caring for his still-recovering father, Prentice. She was left with Fitz, Biana, Dex, Marella, Tam, Linh, and, of course, Keefe, who was already there when she transmitted.

"As I mentioned earlier, Forkle told me to bring you guys to investigate why the Neverseen are in Paris. Who wants to go?"

Everyone raised their hands.

"Well, then. Let's go!"

Zoe was certain that Ladybug was a demigod. As far as she could tell, Ladybug seemed like a daughter of Athena. She was always calculating everything, whether it was fighting an akumatized villain or expressing her feelings to her crush. She decided that after this final akumatization, she would tell Ladybug who she really was.

Zoe watched as the villain had Ladybug in a chokehold, and Chat Noir was on the ground. The villain reached for her earrings, but just then frost spread from Ladybug's fingertips, freezing the villain behind a layer of ice. Ladybug examined her hands in horror.

Zoe stared at her, equally mortified.  She hadn't realized just how powerful this girl was. Could Zoe have been wrong? Was the girl a daughter of Khione, the goddess of snow? Ladybug pulled the weapon away from the frozen villain, broke it against her knee, and captured the Akuma.

"Bye-bye, little butterfly." Ladybug released the butterfly, now white, into the sky.

"Miraculous Ladybug!" She exclaimed and threw her lucky charm into the air. The miraculous ladybugs swept across the city, fixing any damage done by the akumatization. The ice vanished as the villain melted into a civilian.

"Where- am I?" he wondered.

"Pound it?" Ladybug asked Chat Noir.

"One second, Bugaboo. Back it up. Since when have you had freaking ICE POWERS?! We could have used that to defeat Monarch so long ago."

Ladybug sighed, "I... don't know. It just happened now."

Chat Noir exclaimed, "Well, at least this isn't a bad surprise. Your powers could help us defeat Monarch!"

"Pound it!" Ladybug and Chat Noir spoke in unison as their hands met in a fist bump.

"See you later, Milady!" Chat Noir thrust his stick into the ground and leaped away.

Now's my chance, Zoe thought. It's time to tell Marinette that she's a demigod.

She walked out of the shadows, but by that time, Ladybug had already swung away on her yo-yo.
Zoe turned around, thinking that she would tell Marinette at school instead, and walked away. She was so secluded in her thoughts that she almost bumped into the strange group of teenagers in front of her.

The blonde one said something, but Zoe couldn't make it out. It sounded like gibberish to her.

"Sorry," Zoe mumbled in French. She looked up and examined the 8 people. They could be models, their hair silky and smooth, their eyes sparkling in the sunlight. They appeared to be wearing what looked like old-fashioned clothes. All of the 8 wore tunics, the boys wearing pants with strange pockets near their ankles, and the girls wearing leggings.

"It's fine," Sophie replied in French, her voice far away.

Sophie carefully watched Zoe walk away.

"Did you guys see that girl?" Sophie asked when Zoe was out of earshot. "The one wearing a Ladybug printed suit and mask?"

"Yeah," Dex replied. "She seemed to be fighting a villain, but she turned the villain back into a normal person afterward."

"That's not the weirdest thing," Sophie said. "As I was saying before I got interrupted, that girl created ICE! She had Froster abilities as a human!"

"That is strange. Maybe human technology got so advanced that they have machines or something that gives them a specific power."

"Maybe." Sophie frowned.

"Shouldn't we try to look for clues of the Neverseen?" Fitz asked them.

They scanned the city, searching far and wide for any clue that the Neverseen were there, but they didn't find anything.

"Guys, while we're here, I NEED to show you something." She led them into a place with the word Boulangerie painted on the outside.

"This is a bakery. It's pretty much a French place with human pastries. And you guys are going to try a croissant."

A man in an apron asked her in French, "Hello. How can I help you?"

"Hello," Sophie replied. "8 butter croissants, please."

"Dad?" Sophie heard a voice from the stairs in the back of the bakery.

"Do you need help?" Sophie recognized her immediately as the girl in the Ladybug suit.

"One second," She told her friends. She walked up to Marinette.

"Hi, my name's Sophie. I've been wondering. How do you have Froster abilities? You can manipulate ice. I saw."

"Ice? Powers are a thing?" Marinette laughed nervously. "Ha. That's funny. Good one! No, I don't have ice abilities. Sorry to disappoint."

"But you did! As the ladybug girl."

Marinette's eyes widened in shock. How had this random girl discovered who she was?

"Dad, this girl is... a friend from school. I need to talk to her upstairs."

She took Sophie's hand and led her upstairs, opening the trapdoor to her room. Her room was small but cozy. She had a desk with a computer monitor and a sewing machine, as well as a collection of yarns and fabrics. Plastered on her wall were pictures of a boy with blonde hair and peridot green eyes. He reminded her of Keefe Sencen. The thought made her blush.

Sophie scolded herself. Concentrate, Sophie!

"First of all, how do you know who I am?" Marinette asked Sophie.

"How does no one else know yet? Your disguise is so obvious."

Marinette pursed her lips. "No one has figured out my identity before."

"That's strange." Sophie said.

"Second of all, since you just saw through my superhero desguise, you can't just go around and say. Oh. I saw you as the ladybug girl! That could put all of Paris in danger!"

"Okay. Sorry. But never mind that. Answer me. How do you have ice abilities? Are you a Froster?"

"I... don't know. They just happened. What's a Froster?" Marinette asked.

"Just someone who can manipulate ice," Sophie told her a-matter-of-factly.

"That's a thing?"

"Not for humans, it isn't."

"You act as if you aren't human."

Sophie paused, not sure what to say.

"Look, Sophie. I need you to promise to keep my identity a secret," Marinette said solemnly. "The fate of Paris depends on it."

Sophie nodded.

"No humans will find out." Marinette frowned. She didn't like the way she talked about humans as if she wasn't one. She hoped Sophie could keep her secret.
