Chapter 21

The room they now walk into is lighter than the other room they just came from. It is filled with a warm light, that is not created through the light outside, but the light of candles that are plastered all around the room.

The woman walks to a shelf on the left side of the room and pulls out a book.

The cover of the book is a dark green colour, a lot darker than the moss they saw on the outside of the house. You could say that the colour looks a lot like black, but if you look closely, you can see traces of a green shimmer mixed into the colour.

The book is very old and obviously been used a lot, because the cover is falling to pieces. Its edges are quite bent and the spine is nearly coming off completely. But although it is not in the best condition any more, it still looks magnificent, like there is something magical about it. If you look closely at the book, you can see that the writing on the cover is a golden colour. In the old days, people actually used to use proper gold to write on the cover of books.

'I wonder, if the writing is made out of real gold. Then it must be really valuable', Luna studies the book carefully.

The woman places the book on the table in the middle of the room and flips it open. The pages have a lightly yellowish, brown colour and are falling apart at places or are ripped at the ends.

'It must have been passed down generations', Luna thinks, studying the pages a little longer, trying to figure out how old the book could be.

"This book is the only copy ever made. It holds all the secrets a seer needs to know. No other books will tell you the things you will find in here", the woman's voice is heard in Luna's ears and she is ripped out of her thoughts.

"How come are you the person that has the copy then?" Chad asks cockily, but gets a mean glare from Michael.

"Because it was written by my one of the earliest women in my family and has been passed down from generation to generation, until it landed in my bookshelf. But I am getting old now and see no use for it anymore, so it is time to pass it down to you.", the old lady explains and smiles at Luna.

'I knew the book was old. What... wait, did she... did she just say what I think she said? Does she really want to pass it onto me?' Luna asks herself.

"But... but then why would you want to pass it onto me? I am not part of your family. Shouldn't your children or grandchildren inherit it?" Luna looks confused.

"I have neither children nor grandchildren", the woman looks hurt, but carries on, "I had a daughter, but she... she died when she was only sixteen years old in a... in a tragic car accident. She was my only daughter and after... after she passed away, I never thought of having another child", the lady has tears running down her face and she goes to sit down on a seat in the back of the room. With on hand she motions them to sit down opposite her on the sofa.

"We... we didn't mean to bring back sad memories. We are really sorry for your loss", Michael manages to get out, but seems to be heartbroken by this message himself.

"Your daughter, was she an orphan?" Chad asks her carefully, not wanting to hurt her any more than she already is feeling.

"No, no of course not. To be a seer runs in the family. It is in your blood. You cannot become a seer, you can only be born a seer."

"So that means that your daughter was a seer then too?" Luna asks.

"Yes, she was. And she had a great destiny ahead of her. Her farther and I both saw it, the powers she had running through her blood were strong, but she never got to see all of the beauty of being a seer and she never found out just how powerful she actually was", the woman starts crying again and Michael hands her a cloth, which she accepts, smiling slightly at him.

"Your husband, has he got the powers of a seer too?" Chad seems quite interested in these powers.

"No, my husband was a mortal... Come to think of it, the only thing he was good at, was fixing cars. He would spend hours in the garage, mending those damn things. He would take them apart, then fix them back together in a completely different way, which made the cars worth a fortune to any car expert", the woman explains, smiling again at the thought of her husband working in the garage.

"Sorry, you said your husband was a mortal. Is he not with you anymore?" Chad asks the woman carefully, but gets mean stares from the other two.

"No, my husband passed away. Not in the accident with my daughter, if you were about thinking that. No... He was murdered by some people that were after me. But my husband got in the way and I wasn't there quick enough to save him...", the woman turns around, looking at the wall.

There is a minute of silence, then the woman turns around again. "Well, what are you waiting for? Take the book my dear", she smiles at Luna, taking the book from the table beside her and handing it to Luna.

"Thank you so much", Luna says, taking the book from the woman's outstretched hands and studying the material of the book with her hands very carefully. "I will promise to handle this book with great care and once I am home again, I will keep it in a safe place, where only I know where it is. And then I will pass it onto my children and tell them, who it is from and you will be remembered for helping me", Luna explains, smiling at the woman.

The woman nods to all this happily, not saying a word and letting Luna finish. "You are not from here, are you? And I don't mean from New York, but from this dimension, am I correct?" the woman turns her back to them and starts looking through a cupboard.

Chad, Luna and Michael are stunned by this question and no one knows exactly how to answer.

"No... we are not...", Michael answers, but is cut off by the woman.

"Then where exactly are you from?" she asks with a sharp tone.

"Yes, we are from another dimension. We are from Sunfield, a little village in the middle of nowhere", Luna explains.

"And do you know how to get back?" the woman carries on, still rummaging through the cupboard.

"No, actually we haven't found a way to do that yet, but we are working on it", Chad lies, which causes him to get another stare from Michael and Luna, seeing as they have not even tried to find a way to get home yet. They have been too busy trying to find all their friends again that they had not even given it a thought yet.

"And how's that working out for ya?" the woman asks cockily.

"Well... we're... ehm...", Chad starts, but quickly shuts his mouth, realising he has no answer to that.

"Typical. Well that does explain a lot, doesn't it", the woman mumbles to herself.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Chad asks angrily, but is straight away shut up by Michael, who gives him a slight punch in the ribs, causing Chad to bend forward in pain. This results in Michael to get the stare from Luna and tries to pull a 'that just sort of happened' face, which causes Luna to giggle slightly, but they are interrupted by the woman, who decides to speak again.

"Well, I haven't had visitors in a long time, might have something to do with the place not looking very friendly from the outside and that might also have something to do with the fact that I don't like having visitors, but anyway, some people don't seem to care about any of that. So here I am, minding my own business as every day, when who should come walking through the door, a seer and two of her sidekicks", the woman explains.

"We are not her sidekicks", Chad states.

But the woman just ignores this and proceeds. "So this seer claims she sees strange things and has come asking for my help. It really wasn't that hard to figure out that you're not from here", the woman laughs.

"Do you know how to get us back to where we came from?" Michael asks, ignoring her cocky laugh.

The woman's laugh dies away at once. "Okay, I will help you. Here's the thing. For starters you will need to have everyone who came through the portal into this world gathered. With only one person missing, you will have no chance of succeeding. And then, once you are all gathered, you will have to use your powers, Luna. Your powers are strongest at a new moon and weakest at a full moon. So make sure to have everyone gathered on a new moon and say your spell then. Now, the next new moon is in two days, so you must hurry. You must gather everyone and prepare. The rest you will find in the book. Now go and good luck", the woman says and hands Luna a little stone.

"You will need this to get back home", she explains.

Then ushers them out of the house, but smiles at them once more, before she closes the door behind her.
