Working Out The Details

"We need to discuss some things first."
"I understand." Naruto said, giving him his full attention.
We were all in the living room; each waiting for the other to speak first. Neji placed himself against the wall from the right side of us, sipping away at his coffee; while me and Naruto sat on the newly bought couch.
No one spoke for what seemed like forever in my opinion; the tense atmosphere slowly killing me. I could hear the light tapping Naruto made with his index finger on the top of his right knee as he waited impatiently.
I slowly started shaking my knee up and down, out of irritation. The suspense that Neji is purposely giving was picking away on all parts of my body.

Finally, Neji was the one to break the thick silence.
"First off, we need to talk about covering Hinata's tracks."
"Are you saying that I left clues behind?" I asked; starting to panic. As if I wasn't nervous already
"Hm . . . well there was nothing that was recently reported. Perhaps there wasn't anything that was worth being leaked out to the public."
I felt a little unsure of what he meant. "What do you mean?"
"Well, if it's something that they have to keep private, then there is almost a high chance of it being evidence, but at the same time it could have been a dead end; meaning that it wasn't useful or it was false evidence, so it wasn't worth being public."
Naruto seemed to be nodding his head in full understanding, but one thing I wanted to know, was what kind of evidence did they find?
"What was the evidence that they found?" Naruto asked; voicing my thoughts out loud.
"Well, there were rumors going around, saying that they know what gun the bullet came from."
That sentence had my heart racing like crazy. Of course they would find the bullet in the victim and finding out what it was fired from.
"They tried finding out when the gun was registered, and seeing if that will lead them to their target; and I honestly do not know how that turned out."
Naruto then turned to me.
"Did you get rid of the gun?"
"Yeah. I threw it away in a garbage can near the entrance. But I made sure that I wore gloves, you know, to hide fingerprints."
"Well then, it seems they came to a dead end. Since you wouldn't even be able to register for a gun, because of your age, the next best idea is that you must have bought the gun from off the streets; or you borrowed one." Neji said, coming to an conclusion.
"That would make sense." Naruto said in agreement.
"Yeah, well I bought it from some stranger. What else do we have to worry about?"
"Well, to be perfectly honest, buying a gun from the streets is a problem." Naruto spoke.
I started to panic again.
"What? How?"
"If the police realized that you didn't register for the gun, then it's safe to assume that they also came to the conclusion that you must have bought one from somebody, a gun dealer, or more specifically from a straw purchase sale. Only if they can find one that is.. Or they could go looking for close friends, or relatives that you might have borrowed the gun from."
Since when did Naruto become so... educated. From what I could tell, everyone says that he's some kind of idiot.
"What is a straw purchase sale?" I asked, still pondering on the idea of how he gotten smart.
"Those are actual owners of a firearm, but they use other people to sale the gun. That person selling it does not have the right to posses a gun, or isn't associated with it at all; basically selling the gun illegally. Another way a straw purchase sale can be performed, is having someone buy the gun for someone who can't." Neji summed up.
I nodded my head, understanding the concept a little better.
"Hmm. I hate to say this, but Naruto is right . . . but at the same time, he's wrong. Finding straw purchasers are rare, so it's not a big issue to ponder about. But gun dealers is something we might need to take into consideration. Also, since you didn't actually borrow it from anyone, they would just be wasting their time."
"That's true." I said to my relief, but also worried.
"But, the most important thing is to know where and who you bought the gun from. A name, description, anything."
I stared off into nowhere, looking back on that exact day, recalling who the person was.
Well in all honesty, I couldn't remember where, but the person.. was a man. He was weird to say the least.
"Um, he had... black eyes.
...his hair was in a ponytail.
Um.. Oh yeah, his hair color was similar to Kakashi's. Silver-ish, gray-ish I guess.
And.. glasses."
"Is that all you could remember about him?" Neji asked to make sure.
"Yes."
"Well, I guess finding him will be a little more difficult."
He's right. What are we gunna do, search the internet for people with that description?
"Or we can have Sai draw the person from your description." Naruto suggested.
Sai?.... Oh yeah, he's a perfect artist.
"You're right Naruto, we can ask him next time we see him."
"Good, but he must not find out why." Neji warned us.
"What's next?" Naruto asked.
"A missing person's report."
"Don't even bother with the topic, father isn't looking for me."
"Have you ever heard the saying 'You will never notice something until it leaves you?', yeah that's pretty much what uncle is going through." Neji somewhat explained.
Naruto spoke. "So in other words..-"
"In other words, my father is a jack ass, and should have noticed his daughter sooner." I cut him off.
You know how sad that is? It took for me to run away just for my father to finally notice his own daughter.
'He's a good-for-nothing bastard.'
I thought solely to myself.
"I mean I guess, but he's still your father, and if he's somewhat worried, then we can't take any risks." Naruto said.
"Well what am I supposed to do?"
Neji stared straight into my pathetic sole, as if saying that the answer was as clear as day.
If only I prepared myself for the words that he said to me.
"We tell him that you are safe here in Konoha."
Angry doesn't even begin to explain how I felt when those words emptied his mouth.
Irritated, annoyed, enraged, bitter, furious maybe?
No.
I was pissed.
"And then what!? Have him come all the way down here just so he could lock me away in that house? No, we are not telling him anything." I protested.
I can't tell him where I am; he's only going to look down on me all over again. And how ironic would it be if he came all the way down here because he was "worried", only to lock me in my room and forget that I even exist again.
I'm not going back to my neglected lifestyle.
I won't.
"Hinata, how suspicious would it sound if you left on the same exact night that man was killed? Not only that, your room was emptied out, the car I gave you is missing, and the cash your father had stashed away is gone too."
"Damn." Naruto mumbled underneath his breath.
I mentally cursed. Of course, Neji is always right. If my father says a word about my run away, then I could be a suspect. Not only that, since I would be considered "missing" and a suspect, my face would be all over the news, people who did see me have no choice but to mention it to the police, and hiding would prove to be too difficult.
It's better to do it now, than to regret it later.. Isn't that what they say ?
If I don't do it, then I would only make the situation even more complex. Might as well take the chance now while he's still in his "worrying" phase.
After I pondered on the idea a little longer, I decided that this was a safer bet.
I breathed a heavy sigh of defeat.
"Fine." I murmured.
"But, what would I say?"
"Just don't say that you ran away, it will only piss him off." Naruto advised me.
Jeez.. Thanks for the tip.
But what else am I supposed to say to him? If packing your things, leaving your own house without your parents permission, and traveling to lord knows how many miles away without saying a word isn't called running away, then I don't know what is.
There is no other excuse I could give him.
I guess I have to get use to disappointing my father; it's the only thing I do well when it comes to him.
"Don't worry Hinata, I have a plan."
Seriously.?
"What is it Neji?"
"I will talk to him first, then I will pass you the phone."
I guess that could work. Father trusts Neji, so maybe if he does some convincing, then maybe father won't be as upset... Maybe?
"Okay."
Neji pulled out his phone from his pocket, as me and Naruto watched him intently. He quickly dialed the number, and when he put the phone to his ear, my heart started to race.
If I wasn't nervous before, I'm most definitely am now.
The room was so silent that I could hear the phone ringing; the buzzing noise it was making could be heard throughout the semi-small room.
Neji spoke. "Hello?.."
"Yes, I have something to tell you... It's about Hinata..."
It went quiet after my name left his lips.
"....She's with me.. No, it is not her fault, please put the blame on me.... Because I told her to leave.. Yes.. I told her about Konoha High, and told her to leave right away.... I wanted what was best for her uncle."
Hearing Neji say these words put my heart at ease. But father wouldn't understand.
"She seemed so miserable- yes I understand but- NO! That is not true."
Okay, what are they talking about.
"Yeah, she's right here."
I wasn't ready to be handed the phone just yet. I was too anxious to speak with my father.
As I reached out to grab the phone I could see how badly my hand was shacking.
My palm was so sweaty that when I finally grabbed the phone, it almost slipped from my hand. I took a good grip on the phone and placed it on my ear.
"H-hello?"
I cursed myself for stuttering.
"You should be ashamed of yourself." his raspy-angered voice sternly told me.
"I-"
"Save it. I can't believe you tried to force Neji into sticking up for you."
'What!'
He's joking right..?
"You need to take responsibility for your own actions! This is unacceptable. I don't care if you ran away, but trying to convince me that Neji is to blame is insane!"
Tears.. not from sadness, but anger, flushed my cheeks.
'So he didn't care if I ran away or not.. I just wasted my time..'
"No. What's insane is having a father that doesn't care whether you've ran away or been killed! What's insane is thinking that you have actually cared about me! What's insane is even having a father like you." of course... I didn't actually say any of that, if I did, he would have used all his power to come send me back "home".
I'm a coward.
"I.. I understand father." I said angrily. "I am sorry."
"You should be. Now I'm going to let you stay with Neji, since I trust him. I will be leaving now-"
I hung up on his sorry ass. If I didn't hate him already, I hate him even more now.
I tossed Neji his phone and sat there. I could feel their gazes on me, but I didn't care.
"Are you okay?" Naruto asked me.
"No." I whispered.
He scooted his body closer to mine.
"Do you want a hug?" he asked, with care in his voice.
He then opened his arms, waiting for me to hug him.
"No." I whispered again, more tears leaving my eyes.
He ignored me and gently sat my head on his chest, as he hugged me lightly. I covered my eyes with my hands, and quietly broke down in Naruto's arms.
