The Prologue

"From where you're kneeling it must seem like an 18 carrot run of bad luck. But to be honest, the game was rigged from the start" - Benny

No One's POV
Goodsprings

"Doc! Doc open up! We need you!" Now normally shouting and banging on your neighbor's door at two in the morning would be an extremely rude thing to do, but this was an emergency. Standing there in the doorway of an old bartered house, panicking, was the closest thing Goodsprings had to a pastor or priest, Y/N Hearth.

Behind him, a tall figure of steel blocked out the starlight high above them. Victor, the affable town robot. However the most important thing among them was the unconscious women in Victor's arms. Her skin was cold and pale, save for the thin river of red than ran down her face and neck from where two bullets had left their mark. The duo had pulled her out of the dirt, out of a literal grave just moments ago and had rushed her down the hill towards the town at Y/N's request. He wasn't sure how she was alive after a wound like that but she was still breathing, just barely, and that meant there was still a chance she could make it.

"Doctor Mitchell!" Y/N called out again, louder than before in an attempt to get the old man out of bed, because he assumed the doctor had been fast asleep at this hour. His silent, subconscious prayer seems to be answered because less than a minute later the front door swung inwards and Doc Mitchel stepped into view. Wrinkles and patches of dry skin dominated his face, trophies of a long life that many in the wasteland would never boast. Raising a hand the doctor rubbed his right eye and blinked as looked at the younger man and saw a part of Victor behind him. "Y/N? What's going on? Do you have any idea what time it is?"

"We found this girl Doc she needs help bad!" He replied frantically, stepping to his left before he gestured to Victor with his right arm. When Doc Mitchel saw her his eyes went wide and he caught himself gasping in surprise before he quickly regaining his composure. "Bring her in" Doc said as he turned around and hurried back inside to fetch the various medical equipment he needed.

Meanwhile Y/N turned around and took the woman from Victor. He grinned a bit as he struggled to carry her but refused to drop the poor girl and began to walk backwards into the house. She was heavier than she looked and probably weighted more than he did, which wasn't helping but through sheer determination he carried her inside, and Victor closed the door behind him with a loud click.
