Chapter 45
"But I was just trying to-" Luke stopped himself in the middle of yet another rant regarding my actions towards him when he heard my phone ringing. I glanced down at the caller, unsure if I should pick it up or not or hear what Luke was going on about again.
I sighed, "It's my mom, I should probably answer." I told him. He gave me an understanding nod and I picked up, unsure of why my mom would be calling so late at night. It was 10 o'clock at night here and 1am over there.
"Hello?" I greeted her as I heard shuffling around on the other line.
"Autumn?" She said, as if she was trying to get me to confirm that it was me who picked up.
"Yeah, is everything alright?" I asked her. I got a worried look from Luke who was sitting across the couch from me. We were waiting for Calum to come home from getting a few groceries so we could basically have a lazy night and watch movies and fill up on junk food.
"I'm guessing you haven't heard?" My heart sped up at her words and I shifted in my seat.
"What? What's going on?" I hurriedly questioned.
"Autumn, it's nothing bad." She laughed and I quickly calmed myself. "I just need to know if you can be home next weekend." She said.
"Next weekend?" I questioned, raising an eyebrow. I glanced over to Luke who seemed to be listening in to what I was saying. "I guess, yeah." I told her.
"Bring Luke too, he'll want in on this."
"Mom, why do I need to be home?" I asked again, changing the topic off of Luke. I didn't want to focus anymore on my thoughts of him. I had a plan to talk to him once we get back home so I didn't make a scene like I did whenever I left home by myself and I didn't want to talk about it at the wrong time. Or spill it to my mother, obviously.
"You'll see!" She laughed once more, obviously more humored by this weird secret than I was. She didn't do this much, she liked to put everything out there, but this was one of those weird exceptions.
I sighed, "You have me all freaked out for nothing." I muttered, chewing on my bottom lip as she responded back.
"I'm sorry, just enjoy your trip, alright?" She replied. I told her I would of course and we exchanged our goodbyes and I set my phone back down on the table in front of me.
I groaned as tried to get comfortable on the couch without having to cuddle up to Luke to much. He seemed to get the memo that I wasn't in the mood to be so touchy feely and I'm glad he caught on quick or else, knowing me with a bad temper, I'd probably just yell at him for something extremely dumb and make things worse.
Luke seemed clueless. I know that he knew what he had done at that stupid party since every time someone had brought something up about it he just changed the subject.
He could've been drunk or (hopefully not) on some type of drug and just completely not have known what he was doing. As much as I thought about the possibilities of it not being him, it all seemed to come back down to the factor that I was told he was walking upstairs with a girl. And that girl with red hair stopping me and telling me he was in there with another girl just kept replaying in my head.
"Autumn?" Luke's soft voice broke my thoughts. "Are you alright?" He asked, giving me a worried look.
I nodded quickly, tucking my knees into my chest to get some warmth. I sat there for a few moments, letting the dialogue from a 90s movie fill the empty air. I was suddenly hit by something rather soft and I looked down at my feet to see a blanket laying there.
I peered up at Luke who had a thin smile on his face. It was one of those goofy ones he did when he did that made him look like a little kid. I shook my head at him, grabbing the blanket at my feet.
"You looked cold." He told me, sitting up from his spot on the couch.
"Thank you." I muttered as I tugged it up to my chin. I watched him as he crawled over towards me, but was a bit cautious on keeping his distance from me.
"You know," He sighed, glancing over at me then back towards the TV screen. "I'm not sure what you're feeling or what's going on, but you can talk to me as cheesy as it sounds. I just want you to know that I'm still your lame ass best friend, " he said. It sounded like he was unsure of his words, like if he didn't know if it was the right thing to say.
I surprised myself when I sat up and scooted closer to him. I got his attention as I placed a hand on a side of his face. Even in the dim light his eyes were bluer than ever and I told myself from then on I'd never miss the chance to ignore how they had done such wonderful yet horrible things to me.
It was me who initiated a kiss, I leaned in just to feel his soft lips on mine. I could never grow tired of his taste or how delicate he was with me. I feel like some type of exchange had happened between us in the moment I kissed him. Whether it was words or feelings, something had been there that I couldn't put a finger on.
As I pulled back from him, he only leaned in for more. I fell on my back and tried to avoid him once more. It was difficult when he fell with me and he had his hands on either sides of my hips, the only thing keeping him from moving down closer to me were my bent knees.
His head hung low for a second before he took things into his own hands and pushed my knees aside so he could curl up to my side. I already knew what he was doing before he rested his head on my stomach, that was still covered by a blanket, and wrapped his arms around wherever he could.
I instinctively reached out for his hair, running my fingers through it. He squeezed me a little tighter as he curled up to me. A smile tugged at the corner of my lips as he tried to get himself more comfortable.
"Thanks for letting me use you as a pillow." He sweetly said.
"Mhmn." I hummed, trying to make his hair as messy as I could.
I had my doubts. Maybe it wasn't Luke with that girl, maybe she was lying. I wanted to believe that so badly. He wouldn't do that, he couldn't do that. But there's just always that feeling deep in my stomach that makes me cringe and make me want to fold myself away that taunts me and tells me that it was all real.

"Calum can't get through an airport to save his life." Luke mumbled, struggling to unlock our front door.
I stayed quiet, just as I had for the whole trip back home. Even though I slept on the plane and on the car ride back, the few minutes I was awake in between I was silent.
I took in a deep breath as we finally got inside. We both left our bags at the front door which we had dropped the second we closed the door.
I went straight to the couch and laid down on my stomach. My arm and foot dangled off the side as I watched Luke lazily walk towards me. I sighed as he stopped in front of me for a second before bending down to crawl on top of me. I groaned at his weight on my back, not exactly in the mood to have him stretched out on my back as if I was his own couch. I could feel his chest slowly moving on my back from his breathing then soon his lips right in the crook of my neck.
I relaxed at the feeling, everything seeming normal. His warm lips inched down my neck as the slight stubble he had tickled against my skin. He got me to roll over under him so I was laying on my back and looking up at him. His eyes matched his lazy smile, it was evident he was just as beat as I was.
He had a hand on either side of my head while mine had rested on my stomach, fingers intertwined. He leaned down to me, placing a small kiss to the tip of my nose. I tensed up the slightest bit as I became conflicted between wanting to confront him and wanting to curl up to him and never let go and forget about it.
He moved down, kissing the corner of my mouth. My lips twitched into a small smile and he took the advantage to properly kiss me this time. He pressed harder against me than usual, but lingered more than I had expected. I kissed him back with little to no effort as my mood changed, my eye brows furrowing and my stomach churning.
He pulled back from me quickly, not a word being said as he got up off of me and began pacing the front of our living room. He bit down on his finger as he looked deep in thought, it wasn't a look I liked seeing. It was different and he didn't even look like himself.
He stopped in his tracks and I sat up slowly, leaning against the arm of the couch. He walked back towards me and bent down to my level, locking eyes with me.
"I don't know what's going on, but you can't block me out." He quietly spoke, a hint of sternness in his voice. I was silent again, not exactly knowing how to reply. I swallowed down the lump in my throat that I didn't realize had formed.
"I'm not trying to." I whispered, glancing away from him. It was a lie, a complete lie, and lying wasn't going to get me anywhere with him.
He sighed, taking a single finger to my chin and turning my face towards his. "I'm not going to force you to tell me anything, but you know it'll be a lot easier." He told me.
I blankly stared at him, trying to contemplate whether it was a good time or not to confront him about the whole situation from that stupid party. My breath hitched and he noticed without doubt, which got him to raise an eyebrow at me.
"Luke," I quietly said, my voice shaking a bit. I stopped there as I had literally no idea where to even start with this.
He looked nervous himself which hadn't surprised me. I'm sure he knew what I was going to say to him. The way his hand and hesitantly laid on top of mine said it for me.
I looked away from him, trying to pull myself further away from him. I tugged my knees to my chest while he stayed crouched now, his attention now down at his hands.
"I'm sorry." I muttered, running my hands through my hair as I felt tears sting my eyes.
He didn't reply, he just took his bottom lip between his teeth. His worried look was even more evident this time which was like a kick to the stomach for me. I took in a short yet deep breath and let it out quickly.
I caught his eye, making sure that he was going to actually be listening to what I was about to say.
"At the party a few nights ago," I started as he blankly stared at me. "I know what you did." I quietly said, trying to get rid of the building nervous feeling in my stomach.
He started to shake his head but stopped himself, his eyes growing wider as my heart dropped.
