I waited patiently, ordering some green tea while I waited. Zane was an impressive cook, working inhumanly fast and swiftly. He seemed happy and comfortable as he added small dashes of this and that as he worked and conversing politely and cheerfully with the customers.
"Zane! Hey buddy!" I turned when a large group entered. The person who spoke was a broad shouldered boy with scruffy black hair and dark eyes. The next two were pushing and shoving each other , one a blonde and the other a spiky haired brunette. The last two were chatting, the only girl has black hair tied in a ponytail as she talked to a nervous curly haired boy with an ugly orange scarf.
"Hello Cole." Zane greeted the ravenette. "The usual?"
Cole smirked and nodded. Looking excited as Zane slid over a giant cake.
How was this dudes muscles so huge when he ate cake full of preservatives and carbs?
"Thanks Zane." The curly haired boy said, his voice accented. He frowned when Zane gave him a Popsicle. But when I looked closer the whole thing was just ice, everything was entirely made out of ice even the stick.
"Funny." Scarf boy said dryly, sulking but sucked on it none the less.
"Are you coming back to play video games after your shift?" Cole asked excitedly as he sat down, his foot moved to shove the seat spiky brunette boy was about to sit in and the boy fell over with an "oof."
"I am sorry but I have to speak with Sensei about something important and I am unsure when I will return." Zane told them. Sensei?
The blonde glanced up. "Uncle Wu? Why?"
Zane glanced at me. The other ninja all whipped around to stare at me. I slowly raised my tea to my mouth and sipped with a small slurp uncomfortably.
"Who's that?" Ponytail girl asked.
"Gwendolyn O'Hannah, age eighteen, five foot nine, lives on 238 Rubble Avenue in Jamakai." Zane spouted out.
I chocked and spat out my tea.
What the heck?
"Uh Zane...that's a little creepy." Scarf dude nudged him.
Zane blinked. "I am sorry, I was only noting these facts I have learned by browsing the Internet."
I wiped my mouth with my sleeve. "It's fine." I waved my hand. We all have our quirks.
"What do you need to talk to Wu about?" Mr. Spikes asked.
"Yeah what?" Cole chimed in, the group looked at me attentively.
Feeling uncomfortable under their stares I did the most intelligent move in this situation and continued drinking my tea.
"Her grandmother left her a note that she wishes to solve, I need to ask Wu's permission to go there." Zane explained.
"Ah." They said like that was a perfectly normal thing.
"Are you guys apart of a yoga group or something?" I asked. They gave me a funny look. "No? Meditation? I heard that's super relaxing."
Blondie laughed. "Why would you think that?"
"Sensei? Isn't that like a zen thing or whatever? "
Zane sent a look at his friends and they were all communicating using looks.
"You know what....you can tell me later." I said after awhile of the awkward silent argument.
Blondie's phone rang playing a really loud blare of sound.
JUMP UP-He hastily pressed the answer button when everyone stared at him.
"Hey Reagan," he said into the phone. "Mmhm... I told you not to let dad cook. Fire?" He jumped up suddenly.
"Sorry guys I-uh have to go." He scrambled to get his green hoodie he had hung on the back of his chair. "Nya would you mind...?" He asked Ponytail girl.
She nodded and got up as well, making Scarf Dude stand which made flame like spikes stand as well.
"I have to see this." Cole got up as well, punching Zane lightly in the arm. "See ya later tin-can." Tin-can? I can never understand boys.
He nodded to me. "Bye Gwendolyn."
I scowled and kicked him as he passed. "Ow! What the heck was that for?" He whined.
"Don't call me Gwendolyn, it's Gwen." I glared at him.
"Jeez, sorry." He limped after his friends giving Zane a wave.
The doors swung closed as Zane folded his apron neatly and took off his uniform, revealing a blue sweater vest and robins egg blue collared shirt.
"My shift is over now, would you like to meet with Wu now?" Zane asked.
"Uh I think so?" Wu was the Sensei which was the guy I wanted to talk with right?
I grabbed my bag as he said goodbye and waved at a women with haired dyed pitch black, multiple piercings, and a giant tattoo.
"Have a nice shift Quinn." Zane greeted her. She snorted but gave him a goodbye.
I followed Zane into the parking lot. A little beetle was parked olomgside a few SUV's, oh that is so cute.
"Here we are." I turned and gaped at the car. Was it even considered a car? It was a giant...thing with white metal and blue stuff and giant black roller wheel stuff you see on construction vehicles.
"Oh my frick'n God." My jaw dropped.
"You may enter the vehicle." He said cheerfully opening up this blue glass hatch thingy and climbing in. He pressed a button and a second seat behind him slowly whirled up. He grinned at me.
"Um..." I silently questioned my life choices as I scrambled up the black wheel stuff and giant gun before thumping into the seat.
"Don't forget your seatbelt." His cheerful Siri like voice rang. "Many deaths involved in car crashes are because they didn't wear a seatbelt."
"Right." I was still stunned as I turned and clicked it in.
I just realized I probably shouldn't be going with a complete stranger into their car. Wait....
"On second thought-"
He floored the gas and I screamed as he drove forward, right off of the overpass.
I'm going to die!
Suddenly ice shot from his gun thing as he pressed his hands to the controls and smoke sort of ramp of blue shiny ice formed over the two overpasses and he crossed onto the road.
"Sorry about that." He turned and smile pleasantly as he took his place in the left hand lane. "I had to get to a minimum speed of 100 miles per hour to make that without causing a serious collision in the cars on the road."
I gripped the bottom of my seat. "Uh huh." I said weakly. "Um...are all city folk like this?"
