21-Wedding gifts
Soon after we both finished praying, I went down stairs to get the rest of the wedding gifts. These were just the small ones that i wasn't really bothered to pick up before since my hands were tied. Not literally though. I just had too many things on my hand.
As I put everything in the bag I got with me, I thought about what I was going to make Aisha. I had it all planned but I didn't know whether she would like it or not. This is the first actual meal I am cooking for her. What if something goes wrong? Or I burn something? Knowing me I would be freaking out and something is bound to go wrong.
Once everything was in the bag, I made my way upstairs again. Aisha opened the door with a smile on her face and I couldn't help but smile back.
"Hmm, what you so happy about?" She stopped smiling and crossed her arms over her chest. With a laugh, I stepped into the house and went into the living room. I heard the front door shut but Aisha didn't come into the room. Curious, I walked to her and found her bent over clutching onto her fingers. "Babe, you okay?"
"I..." She gasped and waved her fingers around in the air. "My fingers got caught in the door."
I took her hand in mine and pulled them under the light. "They look alright. Might just bruise a little, that's all."
"It really hurts," she whined.
"I know babes." I kissed her cheek and pulled her into a hug. "How did you manage to do that anyways?"
"Well if I said my fingers got caught in the door, what do you think happened?!" She started to push my arms away but I laughed, pulling her in closer. When she finally realised that she couldn't get away, she huffed and lay her head on my shoulder. "I'm sorry," I heard her whisper.
"It's okay. You go and sit down and I'll get the other presents, yeah?"
"Need any help?" I let her go and went to the storeroom beside her. I heard her gasp and looked up in a rush thinking she hurt herself again. "That's so many!" I shook my head with a smile and started to take them out. Technically, we weren't meant to have so many because Aisha originally planned for a small wedding. But me being me, I wanted everyone there because it was a special day I wanted to remember. And plus, I know a lot of people. Now all Aisha just needs to do is get to know them too. She met most all of them and it feels so great to know that they all get along. Of course anyone can get along with my amazing queen-she's amazing.
Aisha came back for another present. She stood there smiling at me but I shook my head. "This one is quite heavy. I'll take it through. But hey, your royal highness," I said. She rolled her eyes and I watched her smile grow. "May I please get a glass of water?" Her eyes widened and she rushed off.
I looked down at the last four boxes and decided what to do. I carefully piled them up on top of each other and started to slide it into the sitting room. Once I went in, my eyes widened. All the sofas were pushed right against the wall and the small table was outside in the balcony which doors were wide open. Good thing too because all that lifting the presents got me quite hot.
"Aneel?" I snapped my head towards Aisha who had a large glass of water with a lot of ice. "Sorry I didn't get it earlier." With a smile, I leaned down and kissed her before gulping down half the glass.
"You start opening them, I need to marinate the chicken." She looked so confused until I reminded her I was making dinner. "Actually, chicken or meat? I'll make lamb chops if that's what you want." Aisha shook her head and gave her hand out to get the glass back. I shook my head and she shrugged her shoulders.
"Whatever is easier to cook. And whatever you want. I'm not too picky."
"I'll go with the chicken then. Babe, seriously start opening them." She shook her head and held my hand. "What is it?"
"I want us both to open them. Let's just do it tomorrow. That way you won't be rushing around trying to fix dinner."
"Aisha, just give me twenty minutes. I will probably start rushing around two hours before so we got a good six hours on our hands yeah?" I pulled her in for another kiss. "We're doing this today. And plus, it's still your fault for side tracking me."
She gasped and hit my arm that was around her. "I did not!"
"Yeah? Who is the one that came up to me and started to touch me up while tell-"
"God, Aneel! You wish!"
She huffed and crossed her arms over her chest. I sighed happily as I wrapped my arms around her. "So easy to tease. And trust me, I know the other-" before I could even finish my sentence, her hand was over my mouth. With a smirk I stuck my tongue out and licked her palm. She shrieked and started to wipe her hand on me.
"Why do you do that every time?!" I shrugged my shoulders with a smile and pulled her into a tight hug. "Does everything have to be sexualised when it comes out your mouth?"
"Maybe you just take it in a sexual way," I said with a wink. "If you really want me to hurry up then you can start cutting the potatoes." She pulled a face at me and pushed me away. "You still love me, though."
She hummed and walked past me. With a smile, I took the chicken out from the fridge that I defrosted this morning. Aisha put the bag of potatoes down on the counter.
"How do you want me to cut them? And shall I peel them? And if I don't peel them then shall I wash them first?" I laughed and kissed her cheek. "Too many questions?"
"Just one at a time babe. Just wash them for me now and leave the skin on. And then just cut them into halves and quarters. It's just gonna be roast potatoes."
I listened to her hum as I marinated the chicken. She washed the potatoes so slowly as if she was washing something delicate. With a smile, I put my arms over her shoulders and ran my hands under the tap. I kissed the back of her head and she looked up with a smile.
"You're a bit slow, aren't you?"
"They need love, Aneel." I rolled my eyes and she giggled. I opened up my hands and she put several drops of the hand wash over them. "Aneel?"
"Yes, my love?"
"I've been thinking..." she dragged out. I kissed her cheek and she carried on. "You know when you talked about having a baby..."
I felt my shoulders drop with my heart. She wouldn't want a baby. Not now anyways. How could I have been so stupid?
"I want to, Aneel. I want to have a baby. Now or whenever is when Allah decides but anytime would be great I guess. If it's now then my only worry is that we still have a lot of issues to sort out but I guess that could be solved over the next nine months, right? We love each other, or for what I know, we-"
"Aisha." She stopped talking and turned off the tap. I shook my hands, shaking off the excess water and wiping it on the towel beside us. I leaned back on the counter top and she started playing with her hair.
"God I'm so stupid, aren't I? I didn't even ask you how you felt about it. You don't want one now do you?" I shook my head. Aisha nodded her head and she turned to walk away.
"Don't you dare walk away from me. I didn't shake my head for that answer. I just can't believe how stupid you are thinking I wouldn't want to start a family with you. That's what I want the most." I wiped away the tear from her eyes and smiled. "Hey, don't cry, okay? I want this only if you want this. If you need some time then let me know, okay? You don't have to rush into this because of me."
"I want this, Aneel. Anytime. You idiot, I thought you were saying no." I smirked and leaned down to kiss her.
"You know what trying for a baby means? Loads and loads and loads and loads of-"
"Stop!" she said with a laugh. I kissed her again and she laughed into the kiss. "Your hand is tickling me."
"It is?" I wiggled my fingers around her back and she laughed again.
"Stop!" I shook my head and ran my fingers up and down her back. I felt her squirm in my arms as she burst into laughter. "Please, stop! I can't breathe!" I sighed as I leaned back on the counter. Aisha eventually stopped laughing and tightened her arm around me. "I love you."
"I know," I whispered. I smiled, scanning over her face while pushing her hair back. "I love you too."
---
I felt Aisha's hands on my stomach and smiled. She rested her head on my back and hummed to herself.
"You said you were only going to cut the potatoes." I rolled my eyes and tossed the chopped onions in the large bowl. I then emptied it out into a smaller bowl since there weren't really much onions. Instead, I chopped some vegetables and chucked them in together. "Are you ignoring me?"
"I'm so sorry, my love, I completely ignored you. I was just busy with this." She tightened her arms around me and sighed. "Just need to chop the leeks and then I'm coming, okay? Just thought I could cut everything now."
"Hurry up," she whined. I chuckled and squeezed her hand quickly. "You've been half an hour."
"My love, I have been only fifteen. Now let me go so I can wash my hands."
"You finished?" she asked. I could hear the excitement in her voice and a small smile appeared on my face.
"Yes." Aisha squeeze me tightly and skipped away to the sitting room, sitting right in the middle. I laughed at her and quickly washed my hands so I could make my way to her.
We both sat together as she decided what present to open first. I crawled behind her and wrapped my arms around her. She giggled and looked up at me.
"Just want to hold you, that's all. But just start with the bigger ones and then we will put them away so we have more space." I stood up and pulled one of the presents to her, watching her jump in her seat. "Just like a little kid, you are."
"Shh. Come on, open it with me. Do that side and I will do this one." I shook my head as I started tearing the paper. Aisha slowly lifted the lid but her smile quickly dropped when she saw what was inside. "I think this is for you." I furrowed my eyebrows as I watched her sigh. I looked into the box and started smiling. No wonder the box was heavy.
There were several different weights in there and I remember telling Christopher about it a while back. I looked up at Aisha who was smiling back at me.
"I'm sorry-"
"What? Why on earth are you sorry? It's your present and I'm glad it makes you happy." She leaned over the box and kissed my cheek. "Do you wanna put it in the spare room now? Save space."
Being too lazy to pick up the box, I pushed it all the way to the room and gently put it against the wall. My little babies. I sighed and sat in front of Aisha who already had another box in front of her. I looked down at the box and it had a number one on. I then looked around and saw nothing else so I guess it was just from the wrapping paper. We did the same thing as the other one and this time Aisha insisted I open the box.
I lifted up the lid and Aisha gasped. "Aneel, look at these!" Aisha picked up a dark purple robe. "I always wanted one of these but of course I had to get married first but look, my favourite colour!" She gently put it back into the box and I looked at the black robe beside it. It had my name on it and said 'Mr'. My eyes focused on another present behind Aisha which also had a number on it. The same one.
"Aisha, get all the ones with the number one. I think it's the same person." We both went through the presents and finally ended up with another three. "You open it all by yourself babes."
"Sure?" I raised an eyebrow and she tore the paper off. She opened it and began laughing. Before I could see what she was looking at, she picked it up and brought it closer to her. "Here, it's all our baby pictures together in order." I took the frame off her and scanned over the different pictures. It was in two different collages but in a single frame. It had all of our pictures in chronological order.
"That's my mum," I whispered when i looked at one of the oldest photos I had. "Damn, is that a nappy on your head?" Once I looked up at Aisha, I saw her blushing. "And look, it ends with us meeting and getting married." The last two photos was of those on our mendhi and wedding day. It was the both of us on the stage when I was cleaning the blood off her finger. I still remember that time. Her fingers were shaking and I could feel her eyes nervously scanning me. I put the photo back in and wrapped the tissue paper around it again. I felt Aisha put a hand on top of mine and I smiled.
"You okay?" I leaned over and kiss the top of her head.
"I love you, you know that?" She hummed and looked up at the sky. I laughed and flicked her nose. "Stop. You know it. Just open the next one." I shuffled round to her so I was sitting right beside her.
She kissed my cheek and giggled. "I love you too, by the way." Her hands slowly moved around the box taking off the wrapping paper. Once she was finally finished, she gave me the small box to open. My eyes scanned over the two mugs. Simple but nice. Aisha picked one up and giggled. "Ah, I love these."
"You never got presents before have you?" She shrugged her shoulders.
"Not this much. Am I too excited?" I laughed and nodded my head. "I'm sorry-"
"No. Don't be. I love seeing you like this. And don't worry, you'll get used to getting presents."
"Don't say that. I don't want anymore presents and I mean that." I raised my hands in the air and smiled.
"Not gonna promise anything." She rolled her eyes and opened up the smallest box the person had given. She smiled and gave it to me. "For me?"
"These are from my sister." That made sense. She was the only one that ha access to both our childhood photos. I took the box off her hand and began laughing. "Looks exactly like you, doesn't it?" I picked up the little bobble head that was a reflection of my face. "Aww, she even got the little beauty spot near your ear."
"You noticed that?" She shrugged her shoulders with a small blush. "Ah, yes, I forgot. You examine my face every morning, don't you?"
Aisha didn't say anything and pushed those presents to the side. She looked back at me and stuck her tongue out. "You could use that tongue for better use-"
"Aneel!" I laughed as I wiggled my eyebrows. She sighed and sat down beside me. "You're so annoying."
"Makes two of us," I said. She punched my shoulder lightly before she giggled. "But you still love me."
She looked up at me and wrinkled her nose. "Maybe."
"I guess that will have to do."
---
We spent the next two hours opening the presents. Most of them were couple sets, such as those robes and mugs. Pretty sure I had enough mugs to stock up a new shelf but I love how they made an effort to actually go and buy one. Aisha got a lot of presents though. Guess it was easier to buy things for women. But I got a lot of shirts and ties that I liked. So many new shower sets I was certain would last me half a year. And Aisha got plenty more. Much, much more. And of course loads of people gave us cash which were in envelopes.
I glanced over at the blender on the side and sighed. So many stuff and so little space to put them. I stood up joining Aisha who was putting all the wrapping paper in a bag so it was out the way. We left some of the presents that were from our closest friends and family. Aisha insisted to open it last.
She pulled my arms and forced me down onto the floor. "Come on! It's time!" I glanced over at Aisha and saw her lean forward for a present. "Most of these are for you. Here, open this," she said as she gave me a present. I kissed her cheek and she giggled.
"Hey," I said as I put the present down. She frowned at me and I pulled her in closer to me. "Can you make me another deal?"
"Depends on what it is," she whispered with a smile.
I opened my mouth to speak but decided to close it instead. I shook my head with a smile. "Don't worry about it. I'll save it for another time." She frowned for a second before tapping on top of the present. I rolled my eyes and slowly opened the box. There was several layers of tissue paper and a note on top.
"Oh, what does it say?" I gave the card to her and she read it out whilst I moved the paper away. "To my best brother, I got you this soap so you clean out that stinky dirty mind of yours." I picked up the neon pink bar of soap and started laughing. Expect my brother to say that. "It actually smells really nice. Maybe that little brain of yours will finally get clean," she teased. I stuck my tongue out at her and picked up another present.
I rolled my eyes once I opened the gift in my hand. I picked up the note and read it out. "Don't forget the mouthwash to rinse that foul mouth of yours." Aisha laughed and kissed my cheek.
"You have no idea how much I love your family. Honestly, they are so funny." With a smile, I pushed her hair back. How much more could I ask for from her? I picked up a present with her name on it and realised that it was the last one. "Oh, for me," she said with a giggle. I watched as she slowly opened the gift and the small smile on her face spread. Her fingers clicked when she clutched onto the small hammer. "Guess what it says?"
"Dunno. You tell me."
"It's says," she said as she picked up the note. "Here is a special present for when you need to knock sense into Aneel's non-existing brain." She giggled and put the small plastic hammer near my face. "It even has the word sense written in it."
I slowly smiled at her, not even looking at the present. I loved the way her cheeks would puff out when she smiled. Those cute little chubby cheeks. And those eyes...I could stare into them for ages. It's like when she looked at me, I can see past all those barriers she held in her life and get to know the real her. And I feel she does the same to me. I mean, how is it possible to fall in love with a woman by just her eyes? By the way she talks to others and behaves with them. From how she smiles. Alhamdulillah, I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful wife.
