6. the peculiarities of a pizza date 🍕

The SecretBusterService status update: fifty minutes ago

Dear students of Califur High,

It's about time I mention the rumours going around about Stefan Walker and Jen Hilton. Do I think they are together? I'm not so sure. My intel says that Walker just felt bad for Hilton after her hundredth attempt at throwing an interesting birthday party and that pity led him to stay back after. Jen, in her vulnerable state, jumped at the chance. Now if they are still together since that fiasco, either Walker is the next Gandhi, or Jen is a very persistent leech.

Daisy kept to herself for a while. I needed to get Jeremy to cram a lot of material into his head in this session, and she understood the need of the hour pretty well. She sat on a side and finished her homework, while I grilled Jeremy about algebraic expressions.

It took me some time to figure out that he wasn't entirely the daft jock I had made him out to be. Sure, he did not get things quickly, and he definitely needed a lot of practice for every topic we covered, but slowly and steadily, we made progress. Once he got a hang of different types of questions, he started going through them with much more accuracy than before.

His speed was still nowhere I needed it to be, but at least he was getting the answers, now. The speed would increase with a bit more practice. I only worried how much time he would willingly sit in a chair and solve maths.

The pizzas took almost forty minutes to get to us.

"How did you know I liked pepperoni?" Jeremy asked Daisy, looking at his plate, "Did O'Sullivan tell you?"

I scoffed, "As if-"

But Daisy cut me off with a strong kick to my shin. I doubled over in pain. "Of course, he did!"

The creep.

Perhaps I should have had a few words about safety, privacy and what not with Daisy instead of Jones. I was going to get her for that kick, too.

Jeremy and Daisy dived into their pizzas. Daisy, too, had gotten herself pepperoni ( because, of course she did), and had ordered a Chilli pepper for me.

"When is your next game?" Daisy asked Jeremy, her mouth overflowing with the half-chewed pizza. I could sense just how close some of it was from dripping down to the floor.

"Daze, that is supremely unhygienic," I scolded her.

From across the table, Jeremy replied with his own mouth half full with food, "Three weeks from today. If I pass the math test at the beginning of that week, I'll play. Or else..."

Daisy nodded sympathetically, and I stared at the two. How was I stuck having pizza with cave people?

Daisy looked up at me this time, "He'll play, won't he? You'll make sure he does?"

I rolled my eyes. The big puppy-eyes routine might have worked when her age was in a single digit, but not anymore. I looked over to Jeremy, almost as if to say 'can you believe it?', but he had a similar routine going on as Daisy.

"You will, won't you?" He asked in a high pitched voice.

Ha ha.

They both burst out laughing and I decided it was time to tune them out.

I gulped down the rest of my pizza, ignoring both their advances at making me join the conversation. I was content in just listening to them talk.

Jeremy's words swirled in my mind and I tried to put myself at ease. He had been quite certain about never consciously hurting Daisy, and I could not see it happening anytime soon, either. Daisy chatted away with him, and he helped her keep the conversation flowing. He asked her about her class, and her friends, and she basked in the attention.

As it turned out, Jeremy was, in fact, good at something. He was good at 'people'. He easily socialised with Daisy, our waitress, and even a couple sitting in the booth near ours. Their daughter took an instant liking to Jeremy and clasped her small toddler hands around a tuft of his hair, absolutely refusing to let it go.

Daisy giggled at Jeremy's unsuccessful attempts of getting himself free, and I allowed myself to grin. I even took out my phone and clicked a picture of the little girl pulling at Jeremy's hair as if she would steer him around like a weirdly shaped car. She was laughing heartily, and a small smile played at his lips when he wasn't grimacing from the pain.

Princess JJ sure knew how to keep the masses happy.

Once the couple finally managed to pry their toddler away, apologising profusely and making Jeremy blush to his roots, we finished off our food.

It was almost time for me to leave for the hospital. I had to drive home with Daisy, first, and then take a shower. A quick dash across the block would probably help me get there in due time.

I could afford a few minutes over, too. Catherine wasn't exactly a sticker for rules, and had let me know on more than one occasion that I could do well to actually live my school years and be a little late, instead of showing up on time, or even worse- early, but I wasn't going to stretch it too long.

I was committed.

"We need to get going, now," I announced. Neither Daisy, nor Jeremy, looked in any mood to get up and leave, lounging back with their bellies full, but I was on a schedule.

I handed a questionnaire to Jeremy that I had prepared as practice for him. He took one look at it and groaned. "What is with you and tests?"

Daisy snorted beside me, "They're his zen!" She squealed when I tried to tickle her side, "He once made a 5-part questionnaire for mom on where all the stuff in the kitchen and the pantry was, when he tried to cook," I lunged at her, but she quickly got out of the booth, "You know what he was trying to make?"

Jeremy grinned mischievously, "Sandwich?"

"As if! That's too complicated for Tom. Too many ingredients!" Both of them passed an evil look in my direction and Jeremy raised an eyebrow, "It was an omelette!"

It turned out be scrambled eggs later, actually, but I did not wait for Daisy to finish telling that story. I quickly scrambled out of the booth and dragged Daisy with me, to leave. She waved back at Jeremy, still grinning.

"You better finish those questions by tomorrow, Jones!" I called out before leaving. He raised his hand up in a mock salute, before pretending to double over, puking.

I ignored all of it and left.

"We should do this again, sometime," Daisy said as soon as I got the car out of the parking lot, "I like him. He's fun."

"You like him because he's fun, or because he gangs up with you against me?" I asked dryly.

She hit me on my arm playfully, but I noticed that she didn't answer. For some reason, it did not bother me- a fact that actually bothered me more, thoroughly confusing me about what exactly bothered me.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, pulling me out of these bothersome thoughts. I pulled it out, casually glancing at it.

It was a text from Jeremy.

PJJ : These are too long. Didn't you have shorter questions? Is this revenge for siding with Daisy?

Despite driving in the middle of a crowded road, a small smile appeared on my lips.

Hey y'all!

It's been awhile since I last updated this book. I mean, technically, it's only been like a week and a half or something, but it has felt so much longer. Goodness! Do I even make sense?

In any case, I have been a little preoccupied writing other stories that suddenly caught my attention and made me deviate off path. One of them is a completed short story that you can read on my profile under the title of 'Your Average Wattpad Story'. It's a parody of the average Wattpad stories I had read growing up and still come across ever-so-often.

Moving on from the other stories, this one is also going somewhere, yes? Of course, a small pizza inclusive interaction hasn't made Tommy boi a fan of Princess JJ instantly, but it's still progress. And I say, well done, Tommy!

I hope you enjoyed the update!

See you soon and happy reading!

Byeeeee
