The Proper (and painful) Introductions

Sorry for the latency and unsatisfactory length. I've been busy.

     "Full protection he said. Shelter and storage he said. Time to study he said!" (Y/N) mumbled to himself as he sat against the wall. The rather pissed off pilot had propped up against the side of the airborne bullhead. He knew he should have seen this coming. He should have known there would be a catch. It was school, after all. When the professor had told him about the deal, he immediately jumped for it, thinking of the protection and storage he was promised. He had unfortunately overlooked the name of the place he had promised to go to - Beacon Academy. Beacon Academy. He had already banged his head against the wall, thinking of his own stupidity. He had agreed to go to a school. It hadn't occurred to him until he had received a message from Ozpin on the scroll he'd been given the night before. The headmaster had told him he would have time to study when what he meant was study time. Scheduled study time.

     Now (Y/N) had locked himself into a deal that, even upon managing to free himself from, would still end in another's favor. Ozpin had informed him that, in order to stay at Beacon, he had to take the full package. And that meant attending classes. It had gone from a middle finger to Ironwood to a middle finger to (Y/N), and he wasn't happy. He had already attended high school on his home planet in the Frontier, and he didn't like the idea of doing it again. On top of that, he would have to socialize and adapt to the whole 'huntsman and huntress' thing Oz was selling. As bad as it may be, (Y/N) knew it was probably better than the alternative, which was prison and execution. Ozpin wouldn't give the order, but Ironwood would find a way to gain custody. Stuck on a planet outside of frontier space, no way of calling reinforcements, and now having to attend classes at a floating school. Yay. This was the most common thought for the pilot as the bullhead neared its destination.

     OS-1415 was currently being carried by two other bullheads. The titan was being held by wires in the middle of the two, as his 40-ton chassis could not be supported by one ship. Ozpin had given him directions to an unoccupied warehouse on the Beacon campus that could be used to store the titan. (Y/N) had also been informed of the location of his dorm room, which he had turned down due to the fact that he didn't trust someone wouldn't come in and start tampering with his titan or the many guns that would be in there with it. Once his bullhead landed, the two carrying OS would follow him to the warehouse for drop off.

     One thing that had really caught (Y/N)'s attention was the size and design for the school. It was much larger than any school he had ever been to. On top of that, it looked like a crazy ass medieval castle. It didn't surprise him as much as he thought it would, though. He was, after all, on a world where people walk around with giant weapons and fight creatures of darkness, whatever that meant. Remnant was definitely a weird planet. He had hoped he wouldn't run into the super 8 from the day before, but an itching feeling was telling him otherwise.

                                                                                                                                            * * *

     Ruby Rose had just awoken in a hospital bed in the Beacon infirmary. Sitting up, she saw her friends and teammates sifting and waking up themselves. Her muscles ached like nothing she had experienced before. There were an IV and heart monitor for everyone in the room. "Ugh . . . what happened?" Yang groggily asked, rubbing her eyes.

     "The last thing I remember, we were fighting that giant robot." Ren sat up. "And lost."

     "Wait, so, does that mean we're dead?" Nora asked, a hint of fear in her voice.

     "Fortunately students, you are all still among the living." The teenagers turned towards the voice and saw Glynda walking through the door to their room. "And very lucky to be so. The other men and women who went up against that machine are not able to say the same."

     "You mean . . ." Ruby started.

     "Yes, Ruby, of those who attempted to fight the machine, you eight are the only survivors." Ruby looked down as a sour silence overtook the room.

     "That's terrible. All those men and women - slaughtered." Nora looked down as well.

     "That thing tore right through the paladin's armor. What kind of weaponry was that? Who made it?" Weiss sounded irritated and slightly solemn.

     "It had to have been Atlas. They're the only ones with that kind of technology." Ren said, looking around at his classmates.

     "That was my first thought too, but as it turns out, Atlas had nothing to do with its creation." Glynda shook her head, wondering whether or not to believe the story she had been told last night.

     "But then who could have made something like that? Something so violent?" Ruby, as well as the other students, looked at Glynda in expectancy.

     "That's . . . still in the air right now." Glynda sighed. The students looked down, some in thought, others in guilt or grief. "But it's over now. I expect you all to be discharged soon. When you do, take the rest of the day off. Decompress. Your classes will resume tomorrow." With that, the huntress walked out. Eventually, they were discharged, and they left the infirmary. RWBY and JNPR were peacefully walking until they saw him walking across the campus.

                                                                                                                                       * * *

     (Y/N) had been dropped off at the school by the bullhead not too long ago. He was now on his way to the warehouse with his titan attached to the bullheads sitting right above him. The walk as cut short when something slammed into his head and he was knocked to the ground. Before he could react, his body was covered in ice. "The hell!?" He asked inside his helmet.

     "Pilot, your body temperature is rapidly decreasing. Recommend you find a way to warm up." The titan's monotone voice played through his com.

     "I'm a little immobilized at the moment. Care to help?"

     "I am sorry pilot. The bullheads have me restrained. Ozpin made it clear not to release me until we reached our destination." Wonderful, you thought. Outside you could hear distorted voices.

     "...go... Ozpin."

     "...he... ear?"

     "we.... his legs!" That last one had you worried a little. Whatever they wanted to do with your legs didn't sound like it'd be pleasant. You tried to make a fist so you could activate your faze shift module but you couldn't move anything. While you were trying to think of a solution, your assailants were running to a certain headmaster.

                                                                                                                                                       * * *

     Ozpin sat at his desk, looking over various papers and documents, several involving the incident on the previous day. Vale was making many demands ranging from explanations to demanding the damage be undone. The Vale council was also in his face about it, considering he now had custody of the pilot. A detail Ironwood so conveniently left in his report. Ozpin knew of ironwood's frustration. The general had lost many good soldiers in the battle. He also knew it was partially RWBY and JNPR's fault. The young trainees were strong but relied too much on their weapons. If they had introduced themselves in a more friendly way, then maybe the violence could have been avoided. While Ozpin understood the General's attitude, with the frustration came loss of rational thought. Ironwood was more likely to raid Beacon in the hopes of killing the pilot than he was to make a friendly interaction towards him. This would cause unnecessary tension, and Ozpin himself didn't know which side he'd pick. The side of his friend, or the side of the innocent.

     Before he could dive deeper into the depths of his own mind, the elevator doors opened. In came Ruby Rose and Weiss Schnee, both with fearful and frantic looks on their faces. "Headmaster, the man from yesterday is here! On school grounds. We tried to contain him, but we need you." Weiss was trying not to pant as she said this.

     "What do you mean by 'contain' him?" Ozpin asked, a hint of worry in his voice. He knew very well what "contain" would mean by their standards. "Don't answer that. I'll resolve this myself." He joined his students in the elevator as it slowly descended.

                                                                                                                                              * * *

     You still sat there. In the ice. Trying to find a way to escape. That was until the ice thawed itself. Because of your position, you fell to the ground, face down.

     "Thank you. I will take it from here." You heard Ozpin say. Looking up, you saw the headmaster and the eight teens standing in front of you. All but one had backed off. There was one with white hair, blue eyes, and a white combat skirt standing before you with a sword pointed at your helmeted face.

     "I still don't trust you." She said coldly, her eyes narrowed. Deciding you didn't like this or her tone of voice, you reversed the position. In a quick movement, you disarmed her of her sword, spun, and swept her legs out from under her. When she hit the ground, you pointed the sword at her neck, the tip just barely touching the skin.

     The others were moving to attack you before Ozpin stepped between you and them. "Students! That is enough!" He said sternly, stopping the teens in their tracks

     "Why are you defending him? Look at what he's doing!" One with long blond hair and lilac eyes yelled, gesturing towards you. Ozpin sighed before asking you to put Weiss back. Not without hesitation, you roughly picked the girl up and shoved the sword into her hands before pushing her to her teammates.

     "Now to put an end to your confusion. He is here because I asked him to be." The headmaster finally addressed all eight of them.

     "Why would you ask someone like him to be here? We saw the news reports. He's too dangerous." The girl now known as Weiss protested.

     "That danger is exactly why he is here. After the display he put on during the interrogation last night, I have determined that he would best fit at Beacon where we can put his skills to work."

     "But he attacked us!" A girl with ginger hair said, her face slightly scrunched.

     "It has come to my attention that you may have attacked, or at the very least threatened him, before he even knew you were there." The headmaster once again defended you.

     "And you just believed him?!" Atomic Blonde asked.

     "It doesn't matter what I believe. The past is the past, and this is now. He will be your classmate and you will get along with him just as you have done with your other classmates. His initiation will be tomorrow so if you have any skill related concerns, they will be resolved then." He said, looking to them. They eventually left, leaving you and Ozpin alone. "Please refrain from hurting my students. I let you stay here. Do not make me regret that decision." He said before walking away.

     You looked up to see the two bullheads holding OS still there, waiting for you to get moving. Sighing, you continued on your way to the warehouse. Upon reaching your destination, the bullheads stopped with you. You heard the monotone voice of your partner. "Stand by for Titanfall." He wasn't falling from far, but standard protocol dictated that a titan must give notice to their pilot when falling around them. OS hit the ground with a large mechanical thud before standing up and opening the doors to the warehouse.

     It was a large, open space with a shelf, drawer, and bed. It saved plenty of space for your future projects. OS walked to the middle of the space and dropped to the standard drop position, awaiting the pilot's next order. The X0-16 and predator cannon were both on the ground. Next to them laid your Flatline, R-101, Wingman, and the smart pistol that hadn't been confiscated, along with your data knife. You were about to start organizing but stopped as the scroll in your pocket pinged. You took it out to see it was a message from Ozpin

     (Y/N), all students must go through an initiation before qualifying as a student. In order to not raise questions, you will have yours at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. Report to Beacon cliff as soon as you can.

     Wonderful, you thought. It wasn't that late yet, so you decided to go and explore the school a bit. It would also give OS the time to scan the school area schematics so that you wouldn't have to remember where anything was. Strapping the Flatline to your back and holstering the Wingman and smart pistol, you walked out. You also told OS to send an alert if anyone else entered the warehouse.

     The next morning, (Y/N) disembarked from his titan. He didn't like the idea of being exposed so he slept inside the titan's cockpit. The whole 'explore the school' thing didn't go as well as he had planned. He had received much more attention than he wanted. The students that had seen the news had mixed reactions. The most confusing of the people were the ones with animal traits. When he asked the first one what they were, they seemed to take a good deal of offense. It was later explained to him by Ozpin that they were a split race of humans called Faunus. Just another thing added to the WTF list of Remnant.

     Breakfast had started not too long ago and (Y/N) wanted to get something edible before initiation. Whatever Oz had meant by that - the pilot didn't like it. He put his helmet on and equipped himself with his standard loadout, grabbing a rack of ninja stars outlined in blue. When he first stepped into the cafeteria, the number of stares started to make him uncomfortable.

     "Take a picture, it'll last longer." You yelled at the room. As you walked to get a tray, the number of people tearing their eyes into you seemed to decrease. After getting the food, you sat alone at a deserted table in the corner of the room. Not wanting to remove the helmet, you slipped it off slightly at the mouth to fit the food in. Looking around for anyone recognizable, you spotted the eight from the previous days. All eight had their eyes locked on you. The Atomic Blond, however, looked the most pissed off. And then she had gotten up, soon followed by three others. Then the other four got up as well. Then Blondie had reached your table. The way this breakfast had gone was slowly worsening.

     When she reached you, her hands slammed down on the table in front of you, sloshing your water around a little. "What are you doing here?" She had venom laced in her words. There was one in a black skirt and red cloak, as well as black hair with red tips. She came up and tugged on Blondie's arm with a near inaudible "Yang" that could be heard. Whoever this girl was clearly didn't want 'Yang' over here with you. You felt the same.

     "I'm eating. What does it look like?" You asked with boredom.

     "You know, you still owe me for that punch." Yang said, putting her fist to her open palm.

     "Tsk, Tsk. We're classmates now, remember? Save your revenge for the arena." You got up and walked to throw out the remains of your food.

     "Fine then. I will." She said, before marching off, the other seven following behind.

     So they actually have an arena? Guess I should have expected that. Oh well. You thought as you walked out to Beacon cliff to start the initiation.

     When you got to the cliff, Ozpin and Glynda were already there waiting. "Ah, right on time." Ozpin started. "Your initiation will be simple. You are to make it to the far end of the Emerald Forest and retrieve a relic from ancient ruins. You will be using your own landing strategy after launch. You should know that this will be broadcast to the entire school. They will all be watching. Any questions?"

     "Yes, actually. Will I get my titan for this?" You asked.

     "While you have shown admirable skill from inside the machine, this is to show us your true skill as an individual. Do not worry, however. Upon successful retrieval of the relic, your titan will be dropped for you. If that is all, then-"

     "Actually, not done yet." You interrupted, much to the professors' dismay. "What's the frequency of the broadcast?"

     "Excuse me? Why would you need-?"

     "Can you just do it?" You cut him off again, earning a cold stare from Glynda.

     "Yes. Sending it to your scroll." He said. You pulled up your scroll, letting your HUD scan its contents.

     "Osiris, can you work your magic?" You asked through your comms, confusing the two professors and all that were watching.

     "Affirmative, pilot. Rerouting visual feed now." He said through your helmet.

     "Wait-what?" You heard Glynda ask, confused. The feed for the broadcast had been cut off. When it reactivated, the feed had switched to a full display of your HUD in first person. Both Glynda and Ozpin looked at you, confused.

     "So? You like it? Now you get to see exactly what I see." You said. Everyone watching at Beacon was undoubtedly shocked. Either at the fact it had happened at all or the advanced HUD monitoring.

     "Might I ask why you're doing this?" Ozpin looked at you, brow raised.

     "Because Ozzy, I mean, you threw me into the spotlight. I wanna put on a show."
