The Kill Switch

I just wanted to say, some of you are still voting on the Conduit or Criminal reader insert. The conduit won several months ago and can be found as "Paint and Flame" on my profile.

Damn! I need to get to the SMR! It's the only way I'm gonna cheese this bitch! Said gun lay on the ground behind Man Tank (the nickname I gave him). Pushing off my foot, I shot towards him, knives ready. But he wasn't there anymore. A sudden extreme pain in my side confirmed as I  flew into the wall, letting out a small cry of pain on impact, before I jumped off fast as possible. Man tank slammed into the wall where I was. No time to think! Hitting the ground, I immediately rolled to the side. The dodge slightly worked, so rather than flying out of the room, I went carton wheeling at a rather extreme pace, somehow managing to find myself on the floor in the hallway.

Man Tank emerged from inside the control room, slowly walking towards me. This is like the world's worst game of King of the Hill. I didn't draw my other smart pistol, for fear of it getting destroyed. "You should know you stand no chance. You may as well give up now. It will make your death much less painful." I looked at the Man Tank as he spoke.

"We both know that's not possible."

"I suppose we do." He came at me again, the same near invisible blur. I had no time to move, allowing him to send me farther back into the hall. Dammit! The hell am I supposed to do?! Suddenly, as I landed, my hand felt something. That something was the remains of my ordinance! Well, it's clear he can't be killed by any normal means. And even so, if not kill, it'll at least slow his ass down. I got back on my feet, but yet again, he was gone before I could do anything. I failed to react as he appeared behind me and turned me into a human rag doll as I barreled down the hall back towards the control room. This time, however, I had some sense of motion and landed in a dive roll. Spinning to face him, I took a frag off my belt and chucked it. My breathing hitched when I caught it shooting past my head. "You think it'll be that easy?" He asked.

I saw the blur of a Man Tank in front of me. "Shit!" I used phase shift, temporarily entering the the gray world and moved away. When I exited however, he was already on me. His fist connected with my stomach, and I spent one moment elevated off the ground, and another not knowing what the fuck was going on until I felt a pair of hands pick me up by the head. My vision slowly came back into focus to see Man Tank silently judging me through his mask. Think! Think! Think, damn you!

"You have fought bravely, but you were not smart enough to realize the gravity of the situation." Gravity... gravity...... gravity! Taking a gravity star off my belt, I quickly chucked it at the floor behind him. His mouth showed disinterest until he felt the not-so-slight pulling sensation. His feet began to drag, and the momentary distraction was enough to allow me to break free by kicking his forearms. From there, I spun and ran up the wall behind me, back flipping off it at the last second as Man Tank shot into it. His back now turned to me, I shot my grappling hook, impaling his shoulder and zipped towards him, drop kicking and back flipping off him. Then I took an EMP grenade and threw it at Man Tank. He was too slow to dodge, so the explosive made contact. When it did so, he violently growled, grabbing his head as the electricity surged through him.

If he hadn't had his mask on, the hatred in his eyes would have most likely burned me alive. I started to move out of the way when something slammed into my back, shooting me into the wall. Trying to move I found that I was bound quite tightly. By moving my head, I manged to catch a glimpse of an opaque silver weaving that surrounded a good bit of my body. "Thank you, Skyla." Man Tank said. A spider faunus. The sound of rushing footsteps caught my attention. Squeezing my hand as hard as I could, I managed to activate my phase shift module. I moved back, escaping the web before turning the shift module off. "Sir, whatever you're doing in there, do it fast! We can't hold them much longer!" I heard the voice through my helmet radio. I knew I needed to stop the attack, and whatever these two are doing up here. I heard the sound of 'Skyla' typing on the computer behind me. Man Tank was in front, ready to charge. Suddenly, I got an idea, and smirked under my helmet.

"Come on you Fang Fuck! I take it back! I can't hide it from you anymore! I killed them because I can't stand the abominations that walk this earth and dare call themselves people! I want to kill them all! I'l make you watch as I kill your fathers, rape your mothers and daughters, but I'll leave you so you can watch as they stare at you in horror and betrayal!" I was cringing internally at all this, not believing a word I said. I could see it was working though; his fists were clenched, blood trickling from the middle finger. Even the faunus behind me had stopped. "So you want to stop that? Come at me."

He shot at me like lighting, though I expected it, and with a little stim and the fact I was moving before he was I gracefully front flipped over him as he embedded his fist into the control console spider girl was using. She yelped and jumped back, but not in time to do anything to stop me. Mid flip, I spun while upside down, my Smart Pistol in one hand and a fire star in another. Using the spin's momentum, I chucked the fire star at him (still upside down) while firing two shots from my pistol. As I finished the flip, I shot my grappling hook at the ground, stopping and reversing my momentum. Because I was shooting toward the ground, I performed a power slide, zipping at him, ending with a knee to his chest. I watched as he was sent crashing through the window, the fire star torching his insides as he plummeted nine stories down.

I took a moment to breath, realizing spider girl was still there. I unfortunately realized too late, the result being me getting wrapped in thick webs from the left. Luckily, she had no knowledge of how my phase shift worked. Clenching my fist, I used the last of its battery to 'break' free of her bonds. Not giving her time to be surprised, I swept her leg and slammed her head against the side of the metal console as soon as the battery died, leaving a small blood stain as her body slumped to the ground. Moving to an undamaged screen, I turned it on to see I was locked out. "Osiris, I need a computer entry point."

"Scanning... I have marked a hackable location. Please insert your data knife." I ripped a piece of metal off the console and inserted the knife's blade into a small exposed bit of electronic and wiring. A holographic screen flicked on, counting down until it stopped and turned off. Now with full computer allowance, I accessed the 'Paladin Status' commands. After typing in a series of said commands, a window popped up. It read "Activate Paladin Failsafe."

"Anyone who can hear me, get out of the paladins now! I repeat, you have ten seconds! Get out!" I waited exactly that long before pressing the button with my finger, and the window disappeared. The screen was then turned black as columns of different widths appeared. Each had the word 'Paladin' and a number. Suddenly, they went from white to red as the sound of explosions outside filled my ears. After a moment, a voice played in my helmet.

"Sir, you did it! The enemy is retreating!" The sound of cheering could be heard in the background. Looking out a window, I indeed saw the terrorists were pulling out.

Around half an our later, the men were still cleaning up the mess. Dawn had just broken, and the air was wet. Like a storm was coming, though cloud coverage was minimal. After word had gotten out, Ironwood had finally managed to send reinforcements. At this point though, they were more like a backup cleaning crew. You were moving around, helping the soldiers in clearing out the dead. You heard the general's voice on your radio, a picture of his face appearing in the top left hand corner of your vision. "(Y/N), I'm sorry I couldn't contact you sooner. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, Ironwood. Definitely not the one you should be concerned about."

"That's good to know. Don't worry about the aftermath. You've done enough here, and I'm sure Ozpin will be expecting you. A bullhead has been dispatched to take you back to Vale."

"Thank you. Do you need a tactical report?"

"I don't know yet, but I'll keep you posted."

"Okay. I'm sorry the Paladins had to be scuttled."

"You did it to save lives. The council isn't happy, but I'm sure you couldn't care less."

"Not really." You responded nonchalantly.

"I will see you back at Beacon then. Ironwood out." The feed was cut as you were left to your own thoughts. There was someone back in Vale, however, that was less than happy to get the news.

Cinder Fall was sitting in her Beacon dorm when she received the news via Emerald. "They did WHAT?!" She practically screamed.

"I-I'm sorry, Cinder. The attack failed." Emerald said nervously.

"How?! How could a force that large fall to the shit box Atlesians?!" She was fuming. Mercury then came from nowhere, speaking.

"Heard it was some crazy advanced military guy that showed up at the last second. One of the surviving White Fang told me. Guy dressed in (f/c). Said he also wore a helmet that had blue glowing streaks down it. Apparently he was a battlefield god." There was a few moments of silence.

"Do you think it could be the same person that Roman described?" Emerald asked.

"It could be. But Roman said he was in Vale, this was Atlas." Cinder looked out the window.

"Maybe there's more than one?" Mercury leaned to the side.

"A possibility. Regardless, we need to find out who he is and why he's doing this. If we could turn him, he would be very useful on our side. Go, both of you- find all you can on this mysterious soldier." Cinder ordered. Emerald saluted, while Mercury stood there with  bored look on his face before they both left to perform their tasks. Cinder sighed and looked out the window again. Whoever you are, I'll give one chance, and if you refuse, I'll make sure no one finds your body.

Sorry for the wait and shitty length. I just thought it would be a good ending point. I'll be going back to canon though, so the story gets moving again. Thank you all for you patience and please LEAVE COMMENTARY!!!!! Nothing gets me writing more then hearing your thoughts, ok? Lastly, to anyone who watches Netfilx: if you haven't watched the new animated series, "The Dragon Prince", then take it from me: you're missing out.
