Not The Average School

"Will (Y/N) (L/N) please come to the stage." Ozpin said through a microphone. That's fine, not like I planned on keeping my name secret, you thought. It was still the day of your initiation, and, against your wishes, Ozpin had seen it necessary to announce your arrival to the whole school. You wanted him to keep your name a secret, as it could be used against you if the opponent was smart enough, at least from a legal standpoint ( which you seemed to be having many problems with lately).

Reluctantly, you stepped out from behind the curtains, revealing yourself to the entirety of the school (something else you didn't want Ozpin to do, call the whole school). You were dressed in your pilot combat gear, as you really had nothing else to where. And even though Ozpin had requested the removal of your helmet, you (somewhat) politely declined.

Among the bodies, you spotted the eight wonderful nuisances sitting there, watching you. You began to regret what you had told Ruby after your post - initiation encounter. You knew she would most likely hold you to what you told her about seeing the weapons. Your thoughts were interrupted when the headmaster spoke again.

"I know there has been discussion of (Y/N)'s presence here, as well as the large robot you may have seen moving about the campus. I also know many of you saw the news several days ago about that robot attacking Vale. I will not lie to you when I say that it is the same robot, as well as the one piloting it." As he finished, murmurs could be heard throughout the croud. You figured that it was most likely the students voicing their opinions to each other. "But I want you all to know he is not a threat. Mr (L/N) will be your classmate, as well as, for the first time in Beacon's history, a one man team. As many of you have seen, he shows great promise, and can already dispatch Grimm like a pro huntsman. I expect the utmost respect for our early arrival. Do not disappoint me." Much to your surprise, the students started clapping. Didn't think they'd be so accepting of me. Huh, you thought.

Walking off stage, you left the room, hoping to get away from the large mass of students that would be leaving at the same time. You were greeted by the sunlight as you left the main building to go to your warehouse where your titan would be waiting for you. There were many things that needed to get done. Ozpin had been nice enough to lend you the necessary supplies for bullet construction. That alone would take up much of your time, as Remnant most likely didn't have the 20mm rounds that fed the X0-16. You had the impression that you were being followed as well. Having the instincts you had, you decided to dare your follower a little more.

Upon reaching the warehouse, you opened the doors before you walked inside, leaving the door open enough for someone to get through. You then proceeded to hide behind the wall it was on. When a head poked through, without registering who it was, you grabbed them by the neck and brought your knife to their throat. When they froze, you got a good look at the terrified face of none other than one Ruby. With a sigh, you sheathed you blade and released her neck. "What do you want, Ruby?" You said with an irritated tone.

"Well- uh...um." She started. You knew what this was about, but you wanted to hear her say it. But before she could, you heard yelling in the distance.

"RUBY? Where are you!?" You both looked in the direction of the easily recognizable voice of atomic blonde, who could be seen back toward the school.

"Yang! Over here!" She waved her arms in an attempt to grab her friends' attention. Just what I need right now, you thought. Before you could do anything, the rest of her team had already arrived. Yang looked happy to see Ruby hadn't gotten too far, but the smile soon dropped when she looked up from her and saw you.

"What are you doing here?" She frowned, narrowing her eyes at you.

"I'm staying here. This is my warehouse. If you have a problem, take your little red friend and go." You said the last part harshly, trying to emphasize on the fact you didn't want to be bothered.

"You know, I really need to crack my knuckles on something. You wouldn't happen to have a face would you?" She cracked her knuckles, looking like she was getting ready to one punch man you.

"If I recall, there were eight of you last time, and you couldn't stop me. Don't go throwing your yourself head first into fights you can't walk away from," you said, unfazed. Your voice emotionless.

"You wanna test that theory?" Her body tensed as her hands balled up into fists.

"Gladly." You said cracking your knuckles. Before anything could happen, a someone spoke behind you.

"Pilot, I advise that you heed Ozpin's requested that we refrain from hurting the other students during our time here." Your titan crouched behind you, with his data core looking forward.

"Stay out of this you bucket of bolts! Don't ruin this for me!" Yang looked to the titan momentarily.

"Yang, the robot is right. Ozpin's already warned us. We have to get along with him." Ruby pleaded, tugging on Yang's arm.

"But he attacked us first!" The blond brawler broke her sister's grasp.

"Jesus. You kids really are delusional. That or your crazy." You shook your head, looking down slightly.

"What did you just say?!" Yang's eyes had now turned red, and her hair was a bright gold.

"Did I stutter? Tell me, how does pointing a shotgun, pointblank at the back of someone's head and threatening them not qualify as something worthy of retaliation?" Yang paused for a second before speaking again.

"Well we still didn't attack you!"

"Oh, I'm sorry. It's just that, in my experience, generally when someone points a loaded gun at the back of my head, they do it with the intention of killing me." You were trying to sound 'matter of fact-ly. Hoping to get them to go away in one form or another.

"And what experience might that be?" Blake raised a brow. You sighed.

"Listen, I don't have time for this, nor do I have the patience to tell you war stories. Go find something teenage - like to do." With that, you closed the warehouse door and walked further inside.

"Pilot, I suggest forming relationships with the students while you're here."

"And why would I do that? I don't feel like dealing with a bunch of drama queens right now."

"(Y/N), we are on a never before seen planet we know almost nothing about. Forming bonds with the people around you can only improve our chances of success... and survival." You thought about your titan's words. He wasn't wrong. Making friends would make life easier. You decided to think on it for the time being.

I know I said they were in school for a week when I started this story, but I'm still going to put Port's class in here. Stop me, I dare you.

You woke up the next morning with the front of your body in extreme pain. In all honesty, the correct term was woken down, considering the circumstances. Pushing yourself up off the cold concrete floor, you looked up to see the hatch on OS's cockpit closing. "What the hell Osiris?" You groaned, pushing yourself off the ground.

"I am sorry, Pilot. It was the fastest way to wake you up." Your titan looked down at you, still in the titanfall crouching position.

"Did you have to drop me out of the cockpit though? I'm not exactly on guard when I'm sleeping."

"I would have tried a different method, Pilot, but your first class starts in five minuets." You froze.

"Que?"

"I am updating your HUD." When the way point lit up, you grabbed a smart pistol and wingman. Putting them in the appropriate holsters, you ran out the door. It was an... interesting sight. A distance on front of you, you saw both teams RWBY and JNPR running into the school. This grew a slight smirk on your face.

Activating stim, you began running to catch up with them. You also saw Ozpin and Glynda watching them as they ran. You ran up behind them before boost jumping over their heads, causing Ozpin to spill some off his coffee and Glynda to jump and drop her riding crop. Not giving them the satisfaction of looking back, you ran into the school. The looks the two teams had were priceless. Jumping to a wall, you wall ran past them, looking back at them in time to see their shocked faces, before dropping from the wall and running the remainder of the distance to the class with them barely on your tail.

"Monsters, Demons, Prowlers of the Night." The professor started. "Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha HA, ha... ha." He swung his arm out in front of him in enthusiasm only to have the room remain silent. There was a brief pause until he spoke again. "Um... and you shall to, upon graduating from this prestigious academy." What the hell is this? You thought. The other students seemed to be equally as uninvolved. "Now as I was saying, Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe heavens in an otherwise treacherous world. Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces." You acknowledged his correctness. The world has never been a pretty place, which was something you knew. Only difference is that my entire solar system is teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to punish and enslave. You sat straight, paying attention with the hope that something would come out of this seemingly scripted intro. "And that's where we come in. Huntsmen, Huntresses." He winked at Yang, clearly making her uncomfortable. Nice to know that the 'prestigious' academy's teachers are pedophiles, you thought. "Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves. From what, you ask? Why, the very world." He shot his fist into the air, earning a similar reaction from some nut job across the aisle who looked around, only to find out he was alone. "That is what you are training to become. But first, a story. A tale of a young, handsome man... me!"

This oughta be good, you thought. "When I was a boy..." You tuned him out, knowing that any story he had would pale in comparison to yours. What did attract your attention was that Ruby, who sat on the bench directly below yours, seemed to be drawing something. "Despite smelling of cabbages, my grandfather was a wise man. 'Peter,' he told me..." His voice faded again when you looked back to Ruby, seeing what she had drawn. It appeared to be an overweight, ball shaped version of Professor Port, who had been labeled as 'Professor Poop,' who she was humorously displaying for her friends. Blake and Yang started laughing, but Weiss wasn't as pleased. Her bored look turned into an angry glare. Port cleared his throat, getting the girls' attention. "In the end, the beowolf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity, and my head held high. Celebrated as a hero." He finished and took a bow. The moral of this story? A true huntsman must be honorable." Ruby could be seen balancing an apple on top of a book on top of a pencil while going cross eyed. "A true huntsman must be dependable." Ruby was now somehow sleeping, making Weiss even angrier. "A true huntsman must be strategic, well educated, and wise." All the while, Ruby was running her finger halfway up her nose, making Weiss borderline furious. Ruby's behavior actually came as a surprise to you. She had shown great skill and ability when she had attacked you in Vale, as well as speed that would put any stim simulacrum to shame, so it intrigued you that someone with so much promise was so childlike. "So, who among you you believes to be the embodiment of these traits?"

"I do, sir!" Weiss shot her hand up.

"Right here." You lazily raised your hand, drawing attention to the unfamiliar voice.

"Well then. Lets find out. Step forward and face your opponent." He gestured to the two large, shaking crates that sat off to his right. Weiss stood and walked out to get changed. You, however, just walked down the aisle, much to the professor's confusion. "Are you not going to get changed for combat?" He raised a brow.

"I'm good with what I have." You said.

"Ah, well, perhaps it would be wise to wait for Ms. Schnee. After all, we wouldn't want her walking in knowing what she is about to fight. Also-" You cut him off.

"Don't worry. Whatever it is, it'll be dead before she gets back." You reached the ground floor, gaining a questioning look from the students.

"Can you confirm this, boy? Arrogance is-"

"Lethal, I know." You cut him off again. "Trust me. I've taken on giant forty ton death machines with nothing more than a hand gun. Whatever is in there, I can take it." As you finished, you saw the closest three, Yang, Blake, and Ruby. Blake had a brow raised and Yang was glaring. Ruby looked confused but somewhat exited.

"Uh... If you say so." Port grabs a blunderbuss style axe weapon and cuts the cage lock off, revealing a large, black, boar like creature with four eyes, red markings, and quite a bit of armor. You drew your wingman as it suddenly charged you. You charged back, the two of you getting closer. Before the collision, you boost jumped and turned, firing several shots at its back and head, only to have the shots dent or bounce off the exo-skeleton. "Come on, (Y/N)! Take that thing down!" Ruby cheered from the stands, causing you to wince at the usage of your name.

Upon landing, the Grimm turned at you and jumped into the air before spinning and launching at you like some evil, twisted Sonic. Not being able to jump in time, you clenched the device on your left hand and phase shifted as it was about to hit you. Now entering the grayed out world, you ran to the other side of the arena and turned around, just in time to phase back into reality. The confused creature looked around, growling before it spotted you behind it. Knowing what it was about to do, you aimed your wingman at it and waited. When it started spinning at you, you tracked the red line that went down the front; the eye. Guesstimating to the best of your ability, you fired a round, striking it in one of its four eyes. It stopped mid distance and rolled over onto its stomach. When its stomach was exposed, the surface was outlined and covered in a digital red screen. You recognized it as the HUD display of a titan's critical points. Of course, you hadn't realized that until it had risen again, looking at you with its remaining three eyes. "Osiris, what was that?" You asked through your helmet's comm device.

"I have restored pilot to titan video feed. The function used to identify titan critical points will now be used to highlight weak points on all known or scanned targets. This Grimm creature is know as the boarbatusk. Main weak point is the stomach."

"Ok. Just got flip it on its stomach. Shouldn't be too hard." You said.

"A positive attitude can only improve your chances of success." He responded.

Immediately thinking of a plan, you waited for its next charge. When it rushed you again, you jumped and slammed your feet down onto either tusk causing it to somersault forward. Before your feet were crushed, you jumped again as it toppled over completely, exposing its stomach. As you were still in the air, rather than waist ammunition, you drew your data knife as you fell. Landing with a leg on either side of it, you slammed your knife down on the top its stomach, before boosting backwards, vertically cutting down it, ending the beast's life.

"Very good, Mr. (L/N)! You evaluated the situation and used the most efficient method of eliminating your enemy with the available resources. I am most impressed." Port seemed quite happy as he said this.

As its body started to disintegrate, Weiss walked into the room. "You sure took your time." You said with a slight attitude. She only responded with an annoyed grunt before she walked down to the floor. As she drew her rapier, you heard her team cheer her on. "Go Weiss!" Yang fist pumped the air.

"Fight well." Blake waved a little flag with the word RWBY on it.

"Yeah, represent team RWBY!" Ruby yelled.

"Ruby! I'm trying to focus!" Weiss snapped. You thought that it was a little out of place, only calling her out. But your mind eventually went to the obvious conclusion that, Weiss being the spoiled rich girl that she is, was probably jealous of her leader's position. When you were younger, you had seen plenty of it among children and adults alike in the city on Typhon where you lived. When political influence was everything and the bigheads who mattered would stop at nothing to get what they wanted. "Damn IMC politicians." You muttered.

"Oh. Uh, sorry." Ruby brought her arms back down and shied awayj a little. You frowned, knowing that Weiss would probably elevate this.

"Alright. Let the match... begin." Port used the axe side of the blunderbuss and cut the lock off of Weiss's crate, releasing another boarbatusk. It charged her, making her roll out of the way and attempt to cut its side. The blade made contact, but was otherwise ineffective. She skidded across the floor to a kneeling position with the boarbatusk facing her, snarling. "Ha ha! Wasn't expecting that were you?" Port asked, causing her to look back at him momentarily. "Hang in there, Weiss." Ruby tried to cheer her on.

Weiss shot forward, her rapier in a stabbing position, only for it to parry her with its tusks before flipping her around by her hand (which held onto the sword that was now stuck between its tusks) and mauling her back. This caused her to flip around it and end up in a tug of war match, trying to retrieve her blade. "Bold new approach. I like it!" The professor commented. "Come on Weiss, show it who's boss." Ruby cheered, only to have Weiss glare at her, which resulted in her loosing focus. This allowed the Grimm to throw the rapier across the room. "Ho ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Port rhetorically asked. Weiss looked up and had to dodge the now charging boarbatusk, causing it to hit one of the benches behind her. She then ran to her sword before sliding and grabbing it. "Weiss! Go for its belly, its got no armor underneath-"

"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss abruptly cut off her leader's attempt at help. Ruby slouched back in frustration and sadness.

The Grimm jumped into the air and started spinning, using the exact same sonic attack yours had used on you. Weiss then created two glyphs. One was in front of her, while the other was in the air behind her. When the boarbatusk hit the glyph in front of her, it rebounded away, allowing Weiss to jump onto the one behind her and launch herself at the beast, sinking her blade into its stomach. A squeal of pain emitted from its mouth before it stopped squirming, finally dead. "Bravo, Bravo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true huntress in training." Weiss whipped her sword away from her, cleaning the blood from its surface before sheathing it. "I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings and stay vigilant. Class dismissed." As he said this, the students began filing out of the room. You were about to leave until you saw how upset Ruby was. It reminded you of how things were when you were in pilot school. Training there came with a lot more stress than what appeared to be here. On the frontier, pilots were trained to make split second decisions based on not entirely accurate information with completely random people and a new environment each time. On top of that, pilots had to give orders while defending themselves and their units, killing off enemy forces, and avoid being gunned down by the tens of grunts that wanted the bragging rights that came with killing you.

Weiss walked out of the room with a scowl on her face, leaving her team. Ruby had gotten up to go after her. You followed suit. Running out of the room, you saw her angrily walking away. "Weiss!" Ruby called.

"What?" She turned around to see her teammate catching up.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-"

"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? Your supposed to be a leader, but so far, all you've been is a nuisance." Weiss leaned forwards, as if daring her to say anything else. Ruby scoffed.

"What did I do?" She asked, rolling her eyes.

"That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position. Back in the forest, you acted like a child and you've only continued to do so." You finally decided to intervene.

"Oh will you just shut up and grow up, Ice Queen?" You appeared by Ruby's shoulder. "Do you really think it was that bad? You have no idea what it's like to be a leader. You think Ruby distracted you? You distracted yourself. Imagine trying to do that in a real gun battle. Men screaming and crying as they bleed out, or yelling for help as they crawl to find their severed limbs. The gunfire, the explosions. If what she did distracted you that much from taking on one enemy, then you have no chance of leading on an actual battlefield." You said harshly.

"You? Who asked for your opinion?" She looked at you with her eyes narrowed.

"Who asked for your attitude you damned brat?" You shot back.

"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about working together? I thought you believed in acting as a team." Ruby tried to reason but was cut off before she could say anything else.

"Not a team led by you. I've studied, and trained, and quite frankly, I deserve better. Ozpin made a mistake." She then walked off to do whatever it was she was going to do, while Ruby slouched, obviously feeling sad as well as doubting herself.

"Don't listen to her, Ruby. She only expects you to be the leader she thinks she is. You were only doing you job." You put a hand on her shoulder and looked down at her. She looked up at you, still slouched with a frown. It was evident she was shocked to see you.

"What? What do you mean?"

"Even though you should've gotten the message the first time, it's a leader's job to convince those beneath them to keep fighting. To encourage them and tell them not to give up. You even tried helping her deal with what she was fighting. It's not your fault she's acting like this. She's just trapped in her own little perfect world where she gets to be the center of attention. She's so blinded by her own self image that she fails to see any other possibilities." She looked at you, a little surprised by the fact that the man who tried to kill her a few days ago was now cheering her up and giving leadership advice.

"Hmm. Now that didn't seem to go very well." You turned around to see Ozpin behind the two of you.

"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" The girl asked with glossy eyes.

"That remains to be seen." he chuckled. She stood up straight and looked at him slightly puzzled.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"I mean it's only been one day." he started.

"He's not wrong, there. No one is perfect, especially not on their first day." You interjected.

"Ruby, I've made more mistakes than any man, women, and child on this planet. But at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to leader to be one of them." He leaned down to her level. "Do you?"

"Much of your performance as a leader comes from your own self confidence. Thinking low of yourself will cause you to start thinking low of your ability to make choices, which will end in you making several bad ones." You said.

"Being a team leader is not a title you wear into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?"

"Being a leader means your subordinates look up to you. Being the best leader you can will convince them to try as hard as they can in return." As you said this, she looked up and smirked.

"You've been burdened with a daunting responsibility, Ruby. I advise you take some time to think about how you will uphold it."

"It's not just you now, Ruby. You have a team. Don't let them down, and they'll pull you up." As you said this, you and Ozpin walked off in the same direction, leaving Ruby to think for herself. Once you were out of ear shot, the headmaster spoke to you. "I assume that what you said about being a leader comes from experience?" He asked.

"I've seen both sides of the battlefield spectrum. From the eyes of a leader, and from the eyes of a subordinate forced to take orders. I've also seen my share of rich snobs that think their training and social status should grant them a higher rank, when in reality they have not the slightest clue how to uphold it."

"That seems to be a little derivative." The headmaster said.

"I know." Was all you responded with.

When you had left Ozpin, your titan's monotone voice sounded through your helmet speakers.

"(Y/N), I found something interesting during you conversation with the headmaster."

"What is it?" You asked.

"When the headmaster told Ms. Rose that he had made more mistakes than any man, women, and child, vocal pattern analysis did not detect exaggeration. It would appear that Professor Ozpin was being literal when he made that statement."

"That's...odd. I'm sure we'll find out the answer soon enough. Depending on whatever it is he wanted you to keep quiet about." With this, you moved on to your next class, severely hoping it would be better than this one. Yeah, definitely not the average school.

I wanted to write another story WITH this one as to not burn myself out on it. I've come down to two choices. It's either RWBY X Male Conduit Reader (inFamous gaming series), or RWBY X Abused and Neglected Male Reader. I want you all to choose, and by god I know there are enough of you. Fuckin' 80 some people that read the last chapter is more than enough. Please tell me in the comments or pm me. I'll write both but the winner will be written first. Get your lazy ass fingers to your keyboard our phone screen or whatever the fuck and start voting.
