Memories That Don't Exist

HOW THE ROMANCE WILL WORK: first off, I know not everyone wanted one, and not everyone liked who was chosen. For this reason, it'll be a long subtle development and you WON'T be banging every other chapter.

Before she announced, however, I need some reassurance. I need to know that you as the readers won't stop reading/unfollow because the girl you wanted wasn't chosen. The new guns, however, will be in this chapter. Yay.

---(Y/N)---

It was the night of the dance. Students were out and dressed in their best as they walked - some in pairs - together to the ballroom. You, however, were not. Still the pilot jumpsuit, you sat at a workbench in your hangar, cleaning out the filthy barrel of your newly found Kraber AP Sniper Rifle. On your desk in front of you was the already cleaned R-201 assault rifle, fully loaded. Thankfully the dropship already had a full supply of ammo, so you wouldn't have to waste time making bullets.

"You should attend the dance, pilot," Osiris said. Again.

"Again, no. I've got better things to worry about."

"Pilot, your weapons can be sanitized at a later time and there is not much you can do to repair the goblin. You also told Ms. Belledonna to be careful about how she spends her time. It would be hypocritical to then spend all of your time working on weapons."

"This is different. She's worried about criminals. I just have work that needs doing."

" . . . You should go to the dance, pilot."

---(1st)---

I groaned, slamming my head on my desk. Why is he being so persistent? "Pilot, General Ironwood is attending. If he can make the time, so can you."

"I'm not getting out of this, am I?"

"Pilot, you have thought about fighting and survival nonstop since our arrival. Participation may be a good change of pace." As he finished, I looked down the barrel of the rifle (which had been detached from the rest of the gun) before sighing. What have I got myself into?

---(Ruby)---

Ruby walked up to the large open double doors of Beacon's ballroom, though not without difficulty. The high heels Yang had picked out for her, along with the entire outfit, were making things quite difficult for the young girl as she made her way over. "Oh, you look beautiful!!" Yang says, clapping her hands cheerfully as Ruby walked in the doors.

"Uh, can we have a serious talk about how Weiss fights in these?" Ruby complained, emitting a laugh from her sister as she struggled to walk. A few minutes later, Ruby was standing alone by the punch bowl as Blake and Sun walked in together, but split apart when Yang took the cat faunus to the dance floor first. They shared a quick dance, Yang then being replaced by Sun as she went to join Ruby followed by Weiss.

"I told you she would come," Yang said.

"Mission accomplished," Weiss followed.

"So, what do we do now?" Ruby asked, turning to her teammates.

"Just have fun!" Yang waved her sister off before walking away, Weiss doing the same when she noticed another one of her friends.

"Does that mean I can change out of these stupid things and into my hood now?" Ruby practically yelled, her arms out in front of her in frustration. When there was no response, she started to awkwardly turn back to the dance floor. "Stupid lady stilts."

"Not enjoying yourself?" A voice asked from behind. Ruby's eyes widened before she turned around to see headmaster Ozpin walking up beside her.

"Oh! No," she awkwardly laughed, "everything's fine. I'm just not much of a fancy, pansy . . . dancey girl." She said sheepishly.

"Well you can't spend your entire life on the battlefield -- even if you may want to."

"Yeah, that lesson's been floating around a lot lately." Ruby crossed her arms in annoyance.

"And it's a lesson you may want to learn quickly. Fighting and improving is good and all, but not so good for your mind." The two looked to the right to see the last person they'd ever suspect to be at a dance standing next to Ruby.

"(Y-Y/N)?!" Ruby asked.

"Yep. I'm here. For some reason."

"I am afraid I'll have to agree with Ms. Rose. I did not expect to see you in attendance tonight." Ozpin said.

"Yes well, my big metal friend was very insistent I show up." You said.

"You-Your titan? OS? Geez. Are you sure it's not your mother in that thing?" Ruby smiled comically. That was not the way you took it, however, evident in your clenched fists at her mention.

"No." You said bitterly. She looked hurt at the sudden change in attitude but dropped it knowing all too well what that meant. The pilot sighed. "Sorry. Let's not fight tonight. It's a dance."

"Yes, it's not everyday friends can come together like this. Time has a way of testing our bonds, but it's nights like these that can help keep them stronger than ever. Nights like these are ones we'll never forget." Ozpin finished speaking as Ruby smiles out towards the dance floor, watching the students as they sway. The sound of doors opening caught your attention. Looking over you saw as Mercury and Emerald walked in.

You turned to Ozpin to ask a question, only to realize he was already gone. "How the hell does he even...?" You looked around, muttering to yourself before waving it off, not caring at the moment.

Several minutes later, you and Ruby were silently standing at the punch bowl. You really had nothing else to do, as Osiris still wanted you here. It wasn't so bad, though. Even the professors seemingly enjoyed themselves, professors Oobleck and Port on the far side of the room. You noticed Ozpin and Goodwitch standing together until Ironwood of all people tapped her shoulder and held his hand out, requesting a dance. Much to your surprise, she took it.

"I see you're hiding at the punch bowl too." You turned to see Jaune standing on the other side of the bowl.

"Yeeeuuup." Ruby said, over-pronouncing the "p" sound.

"To the socially awkward." Jaune held out his cup for a toast. Ruby chuckled, clinking her cup with his.

"Sorry things didn't work out with Weiss. . ." Ruby said sadly.

"Meh; it's fine. Neptune's pretty cool." Jaune slightly hopped when he said cool. "I get why she went with him." Ruby looked at him puzzled for a second before speaking.

"What do you mean?"

"Well, come on, not many people can pull off blue hair."

"No, I mean, Weiss came to the dance alone," Ruby said, concern starting to show in her voice. Jaune stopped drinking rather suddenly before he had a coughing fit.

"Uh, what?!" Jaune took an urgent stance, complete and utter shock showing on his features.

"Yeah. She said she had too much to focus on to worry about boys." Ruby said as she looked over at the girl in question. Weiss was currently messing with a pot of white flowers, trying to make a wilted flower stand tall again. Laughing off on your left caught your attention to see Sun, Blake, and Neptune talking together. Looking back at Weiss, you saw she was visibly pained by it. That's bullshit. Something's wrong.

"Hold my punch," Jaune said with a growl as he handed his half-empty cup to Ruby. Not a second after he walked off, she sipped from his cup. "Uh . . . you know you just . . . drank from his cup right?" You asked. Ruby looked confused for a second before looking down at the two cups.

"I wha- aw!" She said, flustered.

"Here, I'd just put that down now." You gently took the cup from her hands and put it on the table next to the bowl.

"Was there anything like this where you come from?" You turned to look at Ruby as she finished the question.

"What, school dances? Of course. There was still school where I came from."

"Yeah. I guess I never got to apologize, by the way. For how hard I pushed when I asked you where you came from back at Forever Fall. I should've just let it go, and instead, you got mad."

"I guess I should say sorry too. I don't like talking about it but the way I acted was inexcusable."

"Yeah. I guess I was just so curious after what Ms. Goodwitch told us. You know, the whole thing about your robot not being recognized as anything of Remnant."

"Yeah, well, in case you haven't put two and two together, I'm not from Remnant."

"You're not . . . how is that even...?"

"I did say that my ship could go to space." It took a second for it to register, but when it did, her face lit up. Oh no. You managed to speak before she did. "And before you ask, yes. If you really want to, I can take you to fucking space." It didn't stop the ensuing hug. Your entire upper body was suddenly crushed at the elbows. Shitshitshitshitshitshitshit!

"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" A mere second more is all it takes for her to realize what she's doing. She let go of you, a slight blush in her cheeks. "I'm gonna, uh, go find Yang." She said before jogging off. You watched her leave before going back to watching the dance. A few minutes go by, after which you start to hear an enormous amount of laughter. You quickly found where it was directed, leaving only three words in your head: What. The. Fuck?

In walks Jaune Arc the Lady Killer in a fucking dress. You have no idea what to say. You're just speechless. He picks out Pyrrha in the crowd, ignoring all the stares and pointing and laughing. When he finally gets to her, she turned around. "Jaune?" She asked in disbelief.

"Eh. A promise is a promise." He said shyly. What the fuck promise did you make? Pyrrha breaks out laughing.

"Jaune, you didn't have to!"

"Hey, an Arc never goes back on his word. Now do you wanna stand there and laugh at me, or do you wanna dance?" Jaune sticks his hand out for Pyrrha to take. She does.

"I would love to dance!" The DJ changes the song to something a little fast paced and the two hit it off, quickly followed by Nora and Ren. Team JNPR then starts off in an incredibly well-syncronized dance, waving an moving like they were forced to practice it for hours. The dance floor quickly became theirs as the people around started cheering and shouting, others dancing in place. "And I thought I'd seen it all." You said to yourself.

Out of the corner of your eye, you notice Ruby sneaking out of the dance. Well, not like I blame her. A few seconds later, she walks out of your line of sight. Hmm. Maybe Osiris will let me leave now. I think I've gotten all I can from this little gathering, and I really would like to get back to my Kraber.

Of course, there was no rest. It was at this time Osiris decided to grace you with his presence. "Pilot, I have identified an unknown individual that has entered the CCT tower. An armed student has persued them." Of course. Quickly rushing from the ballroom, you speak.

"Notify Ironwood. I'm going in there myself." There is no response, but you know one wasn't needed. Now running at the tower, you drew another of your new guns, already cleaned and ready to go. It was similar to one of your current favorites, though this one had a sleek, black design rather than the silver and orange of its predecessor. On the cylinder of the weapon, 'B3 Wingman Mk 2' was engraved on the side, signifying it as the Wingman elite variation.

Arriving at the tower's base, you saw a weapon locker that had smashed into the ground. Looking in through the windows, you also saw the elevator closing on a girl in a fimilar red dress. "Of fucking course it had to be Ruby. Fuck." You started looking around for any form of entrance or where they might be. Then it hits you.

The top! Of course! Scanning the tower, you looked for anything that could help you climb, though in the end, all there was, was the giant concrete bits that went down the outside. Well, better than nothing.

Using your grappling hook, you started to traverse the tall walls of the massive structure, bouncing between the 'concrete bits' while shooting for the top. Your ears picked up on something. A noise; a loud banging. Gunshots!

With more motivation, you start to go faster, reaching the top in about thirty more seconds. Because the top juts out from the shaft, you were required to put in a little more effort. Ok, well, here goes everything.

Jumping out from the wall, you shoot your grappling hook at the very top of the tower before swinging yourself up. From there, you ran up the glass windows and jumped off again, creating enough speed for you to come crashing through the windows. With only a split second to decide what to do, you have to make a choice. Ruby is on the ground, her weapon barely out of reach, while some other masked woman is there, holding a bow with flaming arrows. Dammit! I may not make it to the woman in time!

Activating the suit's current stim reserves, you holstered your Wingman and dashed towards Ruby, barely making it time to grab her, one arm under the knees, the other across her back. Power sliding, you came to a stop at the wall and quickly dropped Ruby before redrawing your Wingman and opening fire. From nowhere, she summons two blades that look to be made from a sort of glassy material and cuts apart each bullet. Oh, come on!

Sensing no other option, you charged her, firing the remaining magazine in an attempt to get close enough to drop kick her. Unfortunately, she's too fast and evades your kick. Recovering quickly, you reloaded your weapon before trying to shoot her again. She, on the other hand, resummons the bow and begins to shoot arrows at you.

Despite their magic appearance, they were still arrows, meaning they moved slow. Slow enough to be dodged, anyway. You slid into cover to avoid the last arrow before standing up and shooting again, but this time she blocks the bullets with her hands! Oh, my fucking god.

Before you can do anything more, you (idiotically) turn at the sound of an elevator ding. Upon seeing Ironwood there, you spun back around only to see the infiltration gone.

Fuck. We might've even gotten her with the general here! Calming down, you holstered your large sidearm and helped Ruby to her feet, taking notice of the swollen ankle she had, getting mentally ready for the most likely long line of questions you would get the next morning.
