...In Our Favorite Rocket Ship
Guess what?! I'M NOT ANNOUNCING THE LOVE INTEREST. HA. YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHO IT IS. IT'LL BE OFFICIAL IN VOLUME 5. So . . . keep reading.
---(Y/N)---
Today, like every day, I wake up early, go, ready myself, and go to breakfast. After a 2 minute meal, I pick myself up and leave, making my way to Ozpin's tower. Ruby is waiting for me there, standing at the door looking around. She eventually sees me and waves happily.
"Morning, (Y/N)! How are you?"
I ignore the irrelevant question and ask one of my own.
"You were waiting for me?" I ask.
"Huh? Oh! Well, I figured we may as well go up together since, you know, we both fought that woman last night."
"I suppose that makes sense. We should move quickly though; wouldn't want to keep them waiting." I walk past her as I say this. She is quick to follow. When we reach the elevator, I step inside first, catching a glimpse at the tens of floor buttons that line the wall. Steadily, Ruby follows my gaze. She gasps.
"Buttons!"
"No! Ruby! Ruby don't-"
I'm too late. She's already pressed them all. My face immediately finds the palm of my hand as a groan of annoyance escapes my lips.
"Was that really necessary?" I ask slowly. She sheepishly rubs the back of her head.
"Eheh. No, I-I guess not."
I turn back to the doors, prepared for the probably five to ten-minute wait. When we finally do arrive, the doors open and we seem to catch Ironwood, Glynda, and Ozpin in the midst of an argument. Based on their expressions anyway.
"Ah! Sorry it took so long. Someone accidentally hit all the buttons in the elevator on the way up here." she pauses, looking around, then to me with pleading eyes.
"Yes, because I accidentally pressed every single button on the wall. Sure."
Ruby adorably pouts before turning and walking up to the three others in the room, me following close behind.
"Thank you for coming, Ruby. You as well (Y/N). How are you two feeling?"
"Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if my bad guy catching record wasn't 0 for 3." She laughs awkwardly. No one else in the room is as entertained, however, evident in the looks she receives from the professors. "Okay, so that's the tone we're going for. Got it." She rubs the back of her head again, only now realizing how serious it was that someone broke into Beacon.
"Ruby, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly was being a huntress is all about-" Ironwood walks up and puts a hand on her shoulder- "You recognized a threat, you took action, and you did the very best you could."
"Thank you, sir." She responds.
"Now, the general here has informed me of what . . . transpired last night. but now that you've rested, we were wondering if you had anything to add." Ozpin says, drawing our attention. Glynda then proceeds to take over.
"Was anyone else with her? Did she look familiar to you at all?" The blonde asks. Ruby took a second to think about it.
"I . . . agh, I don't know. She was wearing a mask and she never said anything to me. But I know she fought with glass! I don't think that was her semblance though. Her clothing lit up whenever she attacked."
Glynda ponders this for a moment.
"Save for the glass, that sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby."
Hmm? What did I miss before I got here?
"Embedding dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone." Ironwood turns to Ozpin.
You can embed that shit into clothing? And I thought Dust bullets were sexy!
"Wait - you think this girl's connected to Torchwick and the White Fang?" Ruby asks. Ozpin pauses to look at her.
"It's possible," he says. "Though we still lack the required evidence to link the two together." Ozpin and the general exchange glances before Ruby speaks again.
"Actually, I think I remember her saying something about a hideout or something in the southeast. Just outside the kingdom." Ruby says this hesitantly. A possible lie to anyone who knows how to read people.
"Pilot, I would be cautious of Ms. Rose's plan. Voice pattern analysis indicates she is lying." Osiris said into my helmet radio. I say nothing in return, not wanting to interrupt them.
"Interesting," Ozpin smirks devilishly.
Well, he saw right through her. Something tells me it wasn't what Ruby said that was interesting.
"I thought you said the intruder never-" Glynda starts, only for Ozpin to walk up beside her and interrupt his assistant.
"Thank you for your co-operation, Ruby. (Y/N), anything to add?" The headmaster asks me.
"Other than my displeasure that everyone on this planet can block bullets with their bare hands or cut them up other than me, not really."
"Well, I'm sure something can be done about that." He says with a chuckle. "Now, why don't you two leave us, I'm sure you have other things that need doing. You have a big day ahead of you."
"Anytime!" Ruby chirps before turning around. I simply nod and follow.
"And one other thing-" we look back at him- "please try and be . . . discrete about this matter."
"Yes sir." Her and I both say at the same time, my military side coming out a little bit.
Several minutes later, she and I walk out of the bottom floor of the building. Thankfully, I was able to keep Ruby from pressing all the buttons again. As I was about to go my own way, I hear Ruby's voice behind me.
"(Y/N)?"
I turn around to meet her gaze, responding with a simple 'hmm?'
"I, uh, never got to thank you. You know, for saving me last night." She rubbed the side of her arm, probably embarrassed someone had to come and save her at all.
"I look out for the ones I care for. But if you really want to thank me, work harder and train harder so you don't get stuck in the same situation again."
"O-Oh, yeah okay!" She says, seemingly happier as she spoke. "I'll see you later (Y/N), she turns and runs off into the dorm building, giving me a wave in the process.
Now with nothing to do, I was going to wander off until my titan contacted me again.
"Pilot, I have contacted to inform you that the repair of the goblin dropship is complete. It has also been refueled. I suggest taking it for a test flight."
Feeling a smirk forming, I turn and began a jog back to my hangar. When I arrive, I pull open the large door just enough for me to slip inside but left it open, considering how I may just be taking it 'for a spin'.
The ship had also been repainted, adorning the black with yellow stripes it once had.
"Welcome back, Pilot," Osiris says. "This dropship is prepped and ready for launch."
"You mind getting those doors open?" I ask him. He doesn't respond vocally, but instead stands to his full height and pushes the hangar door all the way open while I climb into the cockpit. The MRVN sits next to me as I power up the VTOL. My knowledge of flying slowly came back to me as I flipped the switches to their correct configurations. Grabbing the joystick-like controller on the console to my right, I raised the ship off the ground before powering up the engines and pushing myself out of the building.
"Stay safe, Pilot," Osiris says.
Now hovering a good deal above the ground, I turn away from any buildings and angle the nose up 45 degrees before engaging the engines and gently shooting off away from the school. A short time after, I was cruising above Vale and all seemed fine. "I should test out this thing's weapon systems," I mutter under my breath.
I make a slight detour from my luxury ride and turn toward a forest outside the city. On the joystick, I flip a switch up and press the button under it, arming the weapons and charging the shield. The first thing I try is the mounted machine gun. A trigger my index finger is wrapped around is firmly pressed down. The sound of a large cannon fills my ears as the high caliber rounds pump out of the gun in a line.
After a moment, I stopped firing, confident with its capabilities. Next is the missile launchers. Most dropships don't have this feature, but Davis insisted we add them. I was pretty sure he just wanted an excuse to mount big explosives to a dropship, but what do I know.
Connected by wire and mounted by lots of tape is a small square tablet with glowing missile outlines on it. I tap one of the outlines causing the message 'missile armed' to appear on the screen. Without aiming, I pull the machine gun trigger again, only this time a missile is launched. It flies into the forest and explodes a short moment later.
"Alright! Weapon systems are a go. I should probably get back before I use up too much fuel."
As I turn the ship around, I'm contacted by Osiris.
"Pilot, I am receiving a distress signal from a team of huntsman not far from your location. The broadcast says it is team CFVY. Apparently, their bullhead evacuation was shot down."
"Give me their location."
"Sending to you now."
The ship's navigation systems pick up the signal and give me a direction. Now with real purpose, I put the engines at maximum and shot off toward the coordinates.
A minute or so later, I see them in the distance. Four figures running from a sea of black. Only now, they have nowhere left to run.
A large drop sits before them as they stand on a rocky white cliff. They turn around to resume shooting the oncoming hoard, but I believe even they know it's futile. Well, that's why I'm here.
Just the four are pushed to the edge, I appear right behind them. Flipping two switches and hitting a button, I open the evac side doors and turn the mounted gun to aim at the Grimm hoards.
Despite not knowing me, CFVY recognizes their only chance of escape and jumps for it. When all four of them land inside, I quickly closed the doors up and activated the warp drive. The ship angled up on its own before the energy buildup started to fuck with my vision, the white ball expanding in the middle of it until I felt the extreme rush as we ascended the atmosphere.
When my vision clears, I see the familiar sight of the stars around me. And panic from behind.
"The hell?!"
"Where are we?!"
"Is this space?!"
"Please calm down."
I hear the sound of rushing footsteps before I'm wrenched out of my seat and thrown to the floor. Above me, I see presumably team CFVY with panicked looks on their faces.
"Hey!" The girl yelling was most identifiable by the brown beret and shades. "Where the hell are we?! Huh?! You think for one second I'm going to let some alien abduct us then you've-"
"Wait, Coco stop!" I heard a softer voice yell. "Coco's" hands were taken off me. "This is the guy who I told you about. The one that took care of Cardin for me."
The other girl looked confused before she managed to wrap her brain around the situation.
"Wait, wait, wait, you're a Beacon student?"
I look at her awkwardly despite her not being able to see it.
"Oh yeah! I remember you now! You're the one with the robot right?" Coco drops me, leading to me emitting an 'oof' when I hit the ground. "Sorry about that." She says, helping me up. "Just panicked a little. You know, the whole space thing was a little hard to chew."
"Yeah. Guess I would be too." I say, dusting myself off. The rabbit faunus grabs my forearm before talking.
"And as much as we'd like to be up here, we need to get back down to Beacon before too long. Don't want people to think we're dead."
"Yeah, Velvet's right. We kinda need to get back home." Coco says.
So her name's Velvet.
"Yeah, we still have the fuel for that. Strap and I'll take us down." I turn to walk back into the cockpit when I hear a cough. When I turn around, they're all looking around weirdly. Then I realize there aren't any seats.
"Oh. Yeah. Well, hold on to the handles then. Reentry isn't any better." As I say this, a fox faunus with dark skin and . . . all white eyes . . . ? He steps up.
"I'm sorry, but do we have to go down the same way we came up? My stomach is a little . . ."
"Everyone's first time is like that. It does get better. And to answer your question-" I sit back down in the pilot seat- "We'd use too much fuel and the ship would probably burn up on reentry. The warp drive's our only option so hang on."
I hear a gulp as I tap in Beacon's coordinates and activate the warp drive and feel, once again, as my body vibrates and my vision becomes fuzzy. And suddenly, we appear a few hundred meters above Beacon Academy.
I chuckle as I hear a gag from the passengers, and bring the ship into a landing in the courtyard where there's actually a lot more buzz than usual. The ship touches down and I see a small crowd around us. I open the side door to allow CFVY to get out.
I hear gasps and yells of 'team Coffie's back' and the like.
---(RWBY)---
"It's gonna be tough but I know we can do it!" Ruby encourages, trying to lift up her team's spirits.
"Hey! Team CFVY is back." Someone runs in front of Ruby on his way to see the newly arrived. Blake takes off to go see them with her team slowly following behind.
"Velvet!? Are you okay?" Blake asks in concern. The rabbit faunus stopped and turned to Blake.
"I'm fine. I had Yatsuhashi to look out for me." She gestures to her large green-armored friend as he walks by.
"Your mission was supposed to end a week ago! What happened?" Weiss asks, appearing to the right of Blake. Velvet frowns.
"Nothing happened. It was just - there were just so many of them. We may not have made it out alive had it not been for him." Velvet nods at the strange looking ship that had landed in the courtyard.
"Hey, isn't that the ship (Y/N) had?" Weiss asks, squinting her eyes at it.
"Oh yeah! It is!" Ruby smiles, seeing the seemingly space-age ship in action.
"That's (Y/N)'s ship? No way!" Yang half comically protests. Of course, the protest dies when you walk out from the side door and lean on the side.
"Yeah," Velvet started, "he showed up at the last second and saved us after our original pilot was shot down by a nevermore. Oh! And then, and you won't believe this, he took us to space!"
"He did what?!" Blake yelled in shock.
"No, no! Don't worry! Everything went fine. All in all, we were lucky he showed up."
As she says this, the rest of team RWBY becomes visibly uncomfortable. Other than Ruby anyway, who had currently walked over to you a little annoyed.
"(Y/N)," she groans, "you said you would take me to space!" The pilot stood there, not entirely sure what to do about the whining girl before him.
"And I still am?"
"So why did Velvet get to go first?! I thought it would be special! I was gonna be the first huntress in space!" She continues to whine, leading to your increasing confusion. Looking up you spot RWBY walking in your direction.
"Uh . . . help?" You start.
"Come on, Ruby. We have to get going. Our huntsman is waiting for us." Yang says, grabbing her sister by her hood and pulling her away.
"I will hold you to what you've said today!" Ruby sticks her fist into the air, not dropping it until she was out of your view.
You shake your head as you prepared to contact Osiris so he could help you take the ship back. As you did, you got a call from Ozpin. You answer it, opening the line.
"Headmaster?"
"Yes, (Y/N). I assume it was you flying that ship?"
"You assume correctly."
"Then you have my thanks for getting team Coffie to safety. Speaking of, I may need your services with another team. Are you available?"
"Depends on what I'm doing."
"Ah, well, you see, recent developments have raised question about the southeast quadrant of Vale. You were there this morning. You may recall what Mis Rose said."
"I do. The hideout, if I'm correct."
"Yes. Well, you and I both know their tendency to . . . be in a certain place at a certain time."
"What's this about, professor?"
"RWBY is going to the southeast to investigate this 'hideout'. I worry they may be in over their heads. I would request you go with them if it's not too much trouble?"
You chuckle.
"Babysitting again? Sure, why not. I'll meet them at their ride."
"Good and thank you. I will notify their huntsman."
With the conversation over, you leave to go arm yourself and find your temporary team.
When you do, you find them standing in front of a bullhead, seemingly waiting for someone. Walking up to them, you find yourself in between Ruby and Weiss, the latter noticing me first.
"(Y/N)? What are you doing here?" The heiress asks, raising a brow. The others turn to look at me.
"Well, Ozpin seemed to think you might need some backup. Lest you be biting off more than you can chew with this whole criminal hideout thing." You answer. Yang scoffs.
"We can handle ourselves." She crosses her arms and looks away.
"Come on, Yang. We could probably use the extra set of hands anyway." Ruby reasons.
"Well, we have a huntsman too," Blake says.
"Speaking of, who is the huntsman? I haven't seen anyone?"
Before anyone could answer you, the door to the bullhead before you opened. The world stood still, your breath caught in your throat and you felt your knees growing weak.
No . . . . HOW?! Because before you, stood the last person you ever thought would be here.
"Hello, students! Who's ready to fight for their lives?!"
