A feeling of drowsiness washed over (Y/N) as he came to. He righted his slouched body, taking in the sight of his titan's cockpit before stretching away the tightness in his arms. "Welcome back, pilot." The monotone voice of Osiris spoke. (Y/N) had enough experience to know when he had been unconscious and, usually, how much danger he would be in when he woke up judging by his surroundings. If anything was a comforting sight to wake up to, it was the inside of a cockpit. At least when it was that of a friendly titan.
"How long?" He asked.
"You have been unconscious for approximately five minuets and 37 seconds."
"Damn. What did I . . . ?" He trailed off as the memories of his fight with Mercury flooded his mind. "The little motherfucker beat me." The pilot clenched his fists before forcing himself to calm down.
"While he may have technically defeated you in the match, the seconds I had seen him allowed me to scan his vitals. Scans showed he had at least a two concussions. For a fight in which you were out matched, you did quite well." Had any but the more experienced pilots heard something like this, there would have been a one sided argument, but (Y/N) knew his partner meant no offence.
(Y/N) quickly thumbed a button and flipped a switch, causing the hatch to open, and allowing him an escape. The area he resided in was instantly recognized as the hangar/warehouse he had lived in for the past several months - yes - months. When (Y/N) though about it, it actually made him realize how long he'd been gone for. Just how much time he had been away from the Frontier. The pilot could say "I miss them" for very few people, and the 6-4 was definitely of the few on his short list. The thoughts of his comrades caused a deflated sigh to escape his lips. It was quickly picked up on.
"You seem distressed, pilot. What is troubling you?" The titan was still crouched, though its mono-eye was focused on (Y/N). The pilot waited for five whole seconds before answering.
"Do you think we'll find a way back?"
"I do not know what you mean."
"Back . . . home, I guess. The Frontier. We can't just stay here forever, can we?"
"I do not know if it is possible. However, it is highly unlikely we will find a method to leaving Remnant. They do not have the means to leave the atmosphere, nor do they have light-speed capabilities. We also have no knowledge of where we are cosmically. It is even possible we are outside of Frontier space."
"That far, huh?" (Y/N) was not entirely "with it" at the moment.
"Affirmative. The ark weapon's energy discharge was comparable to that of the energy created in the creation of a black hole or supernova."
"So we'd have to create a giant ass wormhole to get back to the war. Wonderful." The pilot said sarcastically, the idea very much not entertaining for him.
"Yes, but you must not lose sign of duty."
"My duty? We aren't exactly in the Frontier anymore. Or fighting the same war."
"As a Militia pilot, you are duty bound to uphold peace, as per the oath you swore on the day you were inducted into the Marauder Corps."
"I'm not Militia anymore. You know that."
"Did you still fight for the freedom of the Frontier?"
"Yes. But that-"
"Then I do not believe it changes anything, pilot. You upheld your duty in the 6-4. You must continue to do the same here. Remnant is very different than any planet either of us have seen. And although it is not involved in the Frontier war, it is still heavily conflicted. Weather you are fighting the IMC or the Grimm does not matter. You are still a pilot." Osiris finished speaking, letting the pilot think long and hard and, eventually, he smiled beneath his helmet.
"Thanks, Osiris."
"I am your titan and partner. It is my duty."
---(A few minuets earlier)---
Despite the titan's advanced technology, Osiris was actually wrong about Mercury. The boy in question had, in fact, three concussions. This and several other things being the reason he was limping is way to the nurse's office. When he arrived, he found out about several other injuries including bruised bones that, by some miracle, were the result of punches that had gone through his aura.
Emerald was waiting for him when he finished, a comical smirk on her face. "You know," she started, "it's what you get for being arrogant."
"Shut up." Mercury muttered.
"It's too bad Cinder wasn't there. She'll want to hear about this." Mercury gulped as Emerald finished.
"Could you . . . uh . . . leave out the part about me . . ."
"The part about your failure? I don't know - that's a pretty big thing to ask. What are you gonna give me in return?" The green haired girl grew another sleek smirk as her partner struggled to find an answer. Eventually, he spoke.
"You remember that thing about five minuets of silence?"
---(Activate the FLEX CAPACITOR)---
The remainder of the school day went on, despite the missing student. Of course, all was not normal. Blake had spent tireless nights without sleep, reading book after book, search after search. She didn't sleep much and ate minimally. Every now and then her mind would drift to something else, but every time it was quickly corrected and put back on task. Weather or not the cat faunus knew what she was doing to herself was unknown, but it was clear that if she did know, she didn't care.
The change in behavior was definitely not unnoticed by her team, however, and it worried them. They had said nothing on the matter, partially out of hope that it was a phase, and that the matter would be dropped. Those hopes were put in vein quickly. It still seemed to get worse from there. In every class she would sit in the back, looking through her personal notes and research. She started skipping lunches, now spending the free time in the library. If one was to look at her they would see the large bags under her eyes. If they looked closer they'd see how she could never keep her eyes open.
This was problematic for both her and her team. Ruby, knowing full well of her responsibility as team leader, felt it was her job to help. Now, her, Yang, and Weiss were all waiting in their dorm for their melancholy teammate to return.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone else had walked through the door, they would have been met with the expectant eyes of their friends. When Blake walked in through the door, all she bare witness to was the pages of her notebook. The same pages she had been looking at all day. The sky was dark at this point and the other teams were either in bed or getting ready for it. Blake sat on hers, oblivious of the three other people awkwardly sitting around her. Finally, Yang spoke.
"So . . . Blake."
"Huh?" Blake looked up from her book, adopting a confused expression. "What's going on?"
"Hey, Blake. How's your day been going?" Ruby asked, though there was something else in her voice.
"Fine." Answered the cat faunus.
"That's cool..." Ruby started, trailing off, trying to find a way to escape the awkward situation. Finally, Weiss could no longer handle the suspense.
"We want to have you at the dance." The white-clad girl said simply. Blake looked up immediately, seemingly shocked.
"You what?!"
"We want you to go to the dance." Ruby said.
"That's ridiculous." Blake retorted, a glare forming in her eyes.
"Blake, we're worried about you." Yang leaned over to her slightly. "This investigation is starting to mess with your head."
"You can't sleep, you hardly eat, and to be honest, your grades have been suffering." Weiss spoke, listing the grievances on her fingers before looking at the subject of those grievances with a concerned face.
"You think I care about grades?! People's lives are at stake!" Blake yelled, gesturing towards the window. Yang reached out and pushed Blake's arm down. Then Yang said-
"We know and we're all still trying to figure out what Torchwick is up to."
"Thanks to you and Sun, we know they're operating somewhere outside of southeast Vale." Ruby interjected. Weiss raised her hand as to announce before speaking as well.
"And the Schnee company records singled out Vale as the primary target for Dust robberies over the last few months."
"Don't forget about their missing military tech, too." Yang added.
"But there are still unanswered questions." Blake reasoned.
"Blake you won't be able to find anything if you can't even keep your eyes open..." Ruby said.
"All we're asking is that you to take it easy for one day." Yang stuck her index finger up, emphasizing how little they were asking.
"It will be fun! Yang and I will make sure of it!" Weiss smiled warmly.
"Yeah! We're planning the whole event!" Yang bounced happily on the bed her and Blake shared at the moment, pumping her fists in excitement.
"Excuse me?!" Blake glared at Yang. Or maybe it was that her eyes were always half shut now?
"Team Coffee's away mission lasted longer than expected." Weiss started.
"So Weiss and I were asked to pick up where they left off. And now we can make sure you have the perfect night." The blonde pointed to her partner momentarily. Said partner was half asleep until Weiss started talking.
"And once it's all over, we'll return to our search - rested and ready." The heiress smiled happily.
"So whaddya' think?" Ruby asked, before the rest of the team looked at their last member expectantly.
"I think this is a colossal waste of time." She said, getting up and opening the door. "I'll be in the library." Was all she said before leaving. Yang sighed, looking down.
"Great." She muttered.
"She can't keep going like this." Weiss said. A few seconds of silence went by before a knock was heard at the door. From there, what one would have hoped to be a romantic date request turned into a . . . romantic date request from Jaune. When she finally slammed the door in his face, she turned around to meet the smug gazes of her teammates. "What?"
"And *that* is why they call you the Ice Queen." Yang said. A thud was heard as Ruby learned she couldn't use the plot to defy gravity in the same manner her sister had.
"All my life, boys have only cared about the perks of my last name. Besides, I already have a date in mind." Weiss remarked, crossing her arms and turning away.
"Date or no date," Ruby recovered and picked herself back up, "none of this will matter if we can't get Blake to go."
The girls adopted solemn looks as they thought about what to do. Come on! Who do I know that would be good to talk about this kinda stuff? Ruby asked in her head. Suddenly, she got an idea. Admittedly it wasn't the best, but she needed someone with experience. She got up walked to the door. "I'm gonna go see a friend. Be back later." She left before giving her friends a chance to reply, putting on a frown as she made her way outside.
---(Y/N)---
(Y/N) had spent the remainder of the day in his hangar, doing various things. Cleaning guns, making bullets, studying as well, allowing him to add more to the "WTF list of Remnant." It was late now; the sky was dark and the shattered moon was above. The pilot, still in his gear and helmet, was tinkering with his wingman when he heard a knocking at the large metal entry to the hangar. Raising a brow, he stood up and walked over to it. Arriving at the door, he braced against it and pushed it open a small amount to be greeted by the sight of one Ruby Rose.
The young pilot sighed internally before opening the door enough for conversation. "Is this important?" Ruby didn't answer for a small amount of time. Eventually, however, she spat it out.
"I . . . I need your help." She stated nervously. In response, the pilot leaned on the door and crossed his arms, signaling he was ready. "I-It's Blake. She's trying so hard with this whole investigation thing that she's hurting herself. I was just wondering if you could . . . well . . ."
"Talk some sense into her?"
"Yes! I-I mean no! I mean yes! I mean-" She stopped herself, taking a deep breath."I don't want you to be mean to her or anything, but I was hoping you might have some experience with something like this . . ." Most likely due to her nervousness, the young huntress in training was looking at the ground. Suddenly, however, she felt a hand on her chin lift her face up. The hand belonged to that of (Y/N) and, due to the position, she couldn't help but blush a little. The hand left her as soon as it had came.
"Look at someone when you speak to them. I won't bite unless all my guns and knives are gone." He said.
"R-Right. So, do you think you could-"
"I'll see what I can do." The pilot turned and closed the door before walking to the school, Ruby in tow.
"Thankyouthankyouthatyou!" She nearly bounced up and down.
"Thank me by stopping whatever you're doing." (Y/N) said in an irritable voice.
"Right, right! Sorry." Ruby apologized.
"Now, and speak slowly, tell me where she is?"
"She said she'd be in the library."
"Thank you." The pilot turned away from her and walked in the intended direction. As he walked, he silently apologized to the girl. Sorry, Ruby. Nice isn't my MO.
After several minuets of walking, (Y/N) arrived at the library. Pushing the doors open, he saw it was almost entirely deserted aside from one active computer. At said computer sat the girl of the hour herself. She was glued to the screen. Her reaction to his presence would have been comical had the air not been so serious.
"You've been busy." He said. Blake jumped, rapidly looking behind her. When her eyes met the pilot's mask, she just glared and turned back around.
"What do you want?" She nearly snarled. He walked up to stand beside her.
"To know what the fuck is going on and why you're being so damned stubborn." Blake growled at his response. She growled standing up to look at him.
"You wouldn't understand!" She barked.
"Try me." The cat faunus sighed before sitting back down.
"I have better things to do." Blake said. (Y/N) mentally sighed before drawing his data knife as he proceeded to jam it through the translucent glass screen of the computer. Blake slammed her fist onto the table before shooting up, getting only an inch from his helmeted face. "What's your problem?!"
"You, obviously. You've been killing yourself the past few days and I want to know why."
"It's none of your business!"
"Maybe not, but it's your team's business, and right now you're doing them a disservice." As (Y/N) finished, Blake laughed sarcastically.
"Did they send you? Are you some sort of peace keeper now?!"
"The only peace you'll know is that of the black void of you keep yelling at me! Though you might just die first. Look at yourself! Is this investigation really worth everything?"
"People's lives are at stake here!" Blake said, trying to use the same reasoning as before.
"Yeah, like yours. Besides, we both know civilians aren't the only reason you're doing this, Blake Belladonna, daughter of Ghira Belladonna, former leader of the White Fang." She looked stunned.
"H-How did you figure that out?!"
"Believe it or not, you aren't the only one with computer access. Once I learned of Ghira, it wasn't hard to put two and two together. No backstory, personal defense for the White Fang. It all made sense. So don't pull this horeshit on me. You're in this because of the faunus' involvement and that alone!"
"You can't know that!" She yelled again.
"Weather I know your motives or not, I've seen this before - this obsession with revenge, or peace, or whatever the fuck, and I've lost friends to it. Keep at this and you're gonna run off and do something stupid and get yourself killed - or worse. Are you really ready for that?"
"What happens to me doesn't matter!"
"What about your team?" (Y/N) asked, changing direction.
"What about them?" Blake asked.
"Have you considered they might be suffering for this too? For what you're doing? You're so wrapped up in this that you may as well be on a different team. Don't you think that worries them?"
"It doesn't matter; they'll be fine."
"How do you think Yang would feel if you did something stupid and got yourself killed? Or Weiss? Or . . . Ruby?"
"She'd be fine-"
"She'd blame herself." As (Y/N) said this, Blake's eyes widened at the prospect that he might be right. "And then she'd go and do something stupid."
"Ruby would be okay." Blake said weakly.
"She would die. Do you want her blood on your hands too?" She didn't answer. Knowing there was little left to be said, he turned to leave. First, however, he said one last thing. "I understand you want to do this because you think you're saving everyone, but consider who you're hurting as well - because you're hurting them pretty severely." With that finished, (Y/N) left a defeated Blake alone in the library as he started his short trek back to the hangar where his titan was waiting for him.
Ok! Ok! So it's about that time again for me to ask now that I have a few more readers. I know that most people like a romance on the side with there reader insert happy meal. So I ask - yes or no? Canon character or OC? There are many options if you want them, but I need to know now.
