Dawn's bus stopped and let her and a few students off at the bus stop. Everybody scattered back to their homes, and it seemed that nobody even noticed the danger that they were in.
Dawn walked in her apartment to see their beautiful Australian Shepard dog named Aussie. "Hey Aus," said Dawn patting her head.
She walked in and shut the door behind her.
Before long, she was rushing down a small hallway, to the first room on the right.
She had hoped that her mother would've been home by now, but she assumed that she had to work a few extra hours.
Her mother worked as a waitress. She was gone for most of the week.
Dawn's father worked as an architect. He spent most of his week working overtime, to pay for bills and rent.
She twisted the door handle, and pushed the door open. Then walked into her room. Her room still smelled of fresh paint, since they had just repainted it a tame light purple. On the left hand side, chalkboard paint covered the wall, where her family all wrote something down on it.
Her mother had drawn a picture of several stars, and she wrote, "We all shine on, like the moon, and the stars and the sun." Her father had neatly drawn a picture of a spaceship, and underneath it he wrote, "If you can dream it, you can do it." Dawn never erased those pictures, and she never wanted to.
She had her bed opposite of the chalkboard wall. It had plain white sheets and pillows. Above it was a poster of Jupiter, and below the picture it said, "dream big".
On the far end of the room was a window, which exposed Boston into the room.
Next to the door was a dresser. On top of it were some models of several spacecraft, along with her NASA cap. Above the dresser was a mirror.
She plopped down on her bed, mind racing. She got on her phone and quickly opened her internet app. Then, she went to NASA's website.
When she got there, there were several alert banners, and their news feed was filled with things about the slowing.
Soon, she closed the app, and then her phone. She got under her blankets, and closed her eyes. She imagined her home, hidden beneath the waves of a new ocean.
Then, in the midst of thinking, she drifted off to sleep.
She woke up when it was nearly midnight. Her home was dark. She got out of bed, and looked out the window. The moon was shining brightly, and so we're hundreds of tiny twinkling stars.
She grabbed her hoodie that was laying on the floor, and quietly exited her room. Her mother was already asleep. Then she climbed down the stairs, when she saw Aussie.
"Come on," she whispered to the dog. Aussie got up from her bed, stretched, and came to Dawn's side.
Then, Dawn quietly opened the front door, and shut it quietly behind her.
After that she and Aussie went down the hallway, and down one flight of stairs. She opened the front door and shut it.
The crickets chirped a sweet tune. A small breeze came through, rustling the leaves on the trees, and making a relaxing hissing noise.
Dawn found a soft patch of grass, and laid down. Aussie rested her head on Dawn's lap.
The moon was just a small crescent, but it was still able to light up the area.
Dawn always loved looking at the stars and the moon. It was always able to fascinate her.
However, one day that would all be gone.
