Chapter 15

A/N: So, this is a pretty short chapter. But it's full of really sweet moments, so there's that. Happy New Years! Also, winter break ends today so that's totally awful. This chapter is dedicated to R5er_4_ever_ because of the awesome ideas she gave me last night at our sleepover. Here's the chapter!

"So..." said Sophie, filling in the awkward silence. "Did you finish packing?"

Fitz shook his head. "Almost. I pretty much packed everything except the tuxedo that I wore yesterday."

Sophie smiled, remembering their date. "It's a nice tuxedo," she agreed. "And it looked even better on you." Her face flushed when she realized the implication of her words.

Fitz laughed. "You looked beautiful in the red dress too," he complimented. "Like Biana said, red is definitely your color."

Sophie looked at the ground for a few moments to hide the smile blooming on her face. "What about that fanfiction you read?" she asked, changing the subject.

"It was good," Fitz vaguely answered. "It's still hard to believe that people write about us like that."

"Mrs. Messenger told me they have teams," Sophie added.

Fitz raised his eyebrows. "Is that so? What are the teams?" he asked curiously.

Sophie's face reddened as she muttered, "Team Fitz, Team Keefe, and Team Dex."

"Well, they seem to have covered them all," he teased, smiling slightly. "Do you think Mrs. Messenger will even write you choosing one in the end?"

"I don't know," Sophie admitted. "On one hand, if she did, the other teams would be devastated."

"But if she didn't, everyone would be devastated," Fitz finished for her. "She has quite a dilemma."

Sophie imagined herself in a fan's position and then in Mrs. Messenger's position, realizing Fitz was right. Mrs. Messenger truly had a dilemma.

"Definitely," she agreed. "Something really drastic would have to happen for me, I guess, to choose in the way I'm portrayed in the book series."

"Someone could turn evil," Fitz suggested. "Or betray you."

Sophie shook her head, thinking back to the times her friends had betrayed her. "That wouldn't work," she refuted. "I mean, think about it."

Fitz frowned, remembering when Alden had become sick, and how he had reacted to Sophie. "I'm really sorry about that," he apologized once more.

Sophie held out her hands. "It's fine. You were going through a hard time," she replied. "Besides, at least one good thing came out of it."

Fitz scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion. "What good thing?"

Sophie grinned. "Mr. Snuggles!"

Fitz laughed. "I guess so," he agreed with a smile. Suddenly, he stood up and held his hand out.

"What?" Sophie asked, more than confused.

"Well, there was a dance in the fanfiction," Fitz hinted, smiling. "So why not actually have one?"

Sophie shook her head, sinking into the couch. "I can't dance."

"Why don't I teach you then?" Fitz offered, his hand still held out.

Tentatively, Sophie took his hand. "Sorry if I step on your toes," she joked.

Slowly, Fitz placed his hand on her waist as she placed both of hers on his broad shoulders. As she looked up into his teal eyes, her heart fluttered as it always did. In Fitz's arms, dancing around the room, she felt like the most special girl in the world. She didn't realize she said the last part out loud until Fitz replied.

"You are," he told her, his eyes sparkling. "Especially to me."

Sophie ducked her head down at the compliment. "So are you," she stuttered. "You're the only telepath that can get through my blocking."

He shook his head. "So can Mr. Forkle," he disagreed, lifting up her chin so their eyes met.

She sucked in a breath at the intensity of his stare. "Yeah but he helped create and train me."

"So your mind belongs to him," Fitz reasoned. "But your heart... It belongs to me."

He leaned in for a kiss, and Sophie couldn't help but sigh. As their lips barely brushed, Sophie heard a voice behind them.

"Did you guys finish packing?" Mrs. Messenger called. "It's 10:30am." She stepped into the room, only to see Sophie and Fitz.

"Oh," she realized, looking at their faces only inches away. "Sorry for, um, interrupting," she stammered.

Both elves' faces had turned fire engine red as Mrs. Messenger left the room in a rush.

"So where were we?" Fitz asked, wrapping his arm around Sophie, causing the redness in her face to intensify.

"Um," Sophie stalled. "Something about my heart belonging to you."

"Oh right," Fitz teased, leaning closer until he closed the gap between them.
