Chapter 11
A/N: Above^^^ is what I imagine Sophie's dress to be, except sleeveless. I just saw it in the store the other day and though "That's perfect for Sophie!" Anyway, yeah.
A/N: Sorry it's so late! But I wanted to make it really good. I've been rereading Neverseen and I honestly think it's down to Team Keefe and Team Fitz. I really hope she picks one of them in Book 5! But we have to wait for another eleven months...
"What is this even for?" Sophie asked Biana.
Biana rolled her eyes. "Isn't it obvious? My brother is going to take you on a date!"
"WHAT?!"
Biana laughed. "Yeah you didn't know?"
"Well he didn't exactly ask me," Sophie reasoned. "Besides, how do you know?"
Biana held her hands out. "Well you guys are dating now, right?"
Sophie nodded.
"And what do people who date do? Take each other out on dates," she explained. "Besides, now is the perfect time because we aren't running away from or to anything."
Sophie shrugged. "I guess so." She pulled the money Mrs. Messenger had given her out of her pocket and paid for the clothes.
"Would you like a bag?" asked the lady in her monotonous voice.
Sophie nodded and watched the lady pack up their clothes and hand them back. She took the clothes and looked at the clock on the store's beige wall. There were only two minutes until Mrs. Messenger picked them up. With Biana in toll, she walked to the store entrance. Sure enough, there was the bright red BMW that Mrs. Messenger drove. Throwing the bags in the back seat, she slipped into the middle, followed by Biana.
"How was it?" asked Mrs. Messenger, curiously eyeing the many bags.
She seemed so much like Sophie's human mom at that time, Sophie couldn't respond. Luckily, Biana did it for her.
"It was awesome!" she exclaimed. "While the outfits aren't as fancy as in the elvin world, they're pretty awesome. Even, kind of... Retro."
Mrs. Messenger laughed. "That's good. Um, Sophie?"
Sophie nodded, meeting Mrs. Messenger's brown eyes that looked so much like her own. But, they were colored contacts, she remembered.
"Fitz was saying something about asking you something... He seemed pretty nervous," she said with a knowing smile. "You may want to talk to him."
Biana squealed. "Oh I really hope it is what I think it is!"
Sophie tugged out an eyelash, wondering if it was. And if it was... She could be having her first date with Fitz. Or her first date ever for that matter. She took a deep breath, "Yeah I'll talk to him."
*~*~*~*
Can I ask you something?
Sophie jumped at Fitz's transmission into her head. He always slipped through undetected and she never noticed his presence until he did. She took a deep breath and transmitted back.
I think you just did.
Fitz's nervous face broke into a smile.
Very funny. But really.
Sophie gave him a subtle nod, half expecting Keefe or someone else to call them out. But everyone else seemed to be paying attention to the movie they were watching.
Um... Well, do you want to go on a date tomorrow?
Sophie raised her eyebrows, trying not to make her reaction too obvious. But inside, she was bursting with excitement. Fitz had actually asked her on an actual date!
Yes! I mean, um yeah sure.
His face broke into a large grin.
Really? Wow! Um, so I guess I'll pick you up around six o'clock?
Fitz, we're living under the same roof.
Fitz's cheeks tinted a faint red and he cleared his throat.
Oh, um, right. But, six o'clock.
You got it buddy.
With a final smile, he turned back to the movie. Meanwhile, Sophie felt like smacking her forehead. Buddy? She was not helping herself. Still, she brightened at the thought that she actually got a date with Fitz! She locked eyes with Biana, who was sitting on the recliner and gave her a thumbs up and a giddy smile.
*~*~*~*
"You look amazing," Biana complimented.
Sophie twirled in front of the mirror, feeling more than overly conscious in the sparkly, short dress. She tugged at the bottom that barely brushed her knees, willing it to be longer.
"I don't know," she worried. "Is it too fancy?"
Biana tilted her head to the side. "Hmm," she pondered. "I don't know much about human fashion, but it's not that fancy compared to elvin clothes."
She had a point there. The elvin clothes were so covered in jewels and sparkly, they stood out like a sore thumb. This was much... Plainer, compared to them.
"I guess so," she agreed. "It's just... It's Fitz."
Biana laughed. "Exactly. And you guys have almost died together so many times. What's one date?"
"Thanks," Sophie smiled. "But do you really think I look okay?"
Biana gave an exasperated sigh, studying Sophie's reflection in the mirror. She had added a teal belt with the dress and pulled her hair back with a sparkly clip, wearing plain red flats. It was simple, but still more than she usually wore.
"You look great," she complimented. "Go have fun. And tell me how it is!"
Sophie doubted that Biana wanted to hear her best friend obsessing over her brother, but she simply nodded. "I will."
