-------STORY-------
Hello! Welcome to When the Sun Rises! We're so excited you decided to join us for this roleplay! Following this divider are "chapters" or story updates, which are pretty much an excuse for me to force people to read my writing. If you find it too painful, there's a summary at the bottom of every chapter to spare your poor mind. Also, sometimes I just use them for character development or as a writing exercise, in which case they'll be marked "unimportant" at the top. Additionally, everyone is welcome to contribute story updates regarding your character, regardless of your role. If you're looking for the general rules/sign ups, please look under the "Housekeeping" divider.
In the meantime, here's the tl;dr of what's going to go down in this rp:
In the first selection, the crown prince, Julian, almost died due to an assassination attempt orchestrated by his father, King Harrison. His younger brother, Fabian, discovered who was behind the plot and confronted their father. The king pulled a gun on Fabian, resulting in a scuffle for the weapon that ended with the king dead. Julian recruited rebel forces to help Fabian, who is now a fugitive, escape to France in order to avoid being executed, the Illean punishment for treason. He would be safe there because Illea and France were at odds and Illean troops could not enter France to look for him, even if they knew where he was.
Out of fear of an angry Illean public, Fabian remained in hiding in the French countryside for the next thirty years. He married a French woman, who gave birth to four children, and then died a few years ago. He was content to die there, but the French government discovered his true identity. They don't see a traitor to the Illean crown, but rather a member of the enemy's royal family. Fabian narrowly escaped with his children, making it back to Illea for the first time in thirty years. Julian, who is now king, welcomed him with open arms, issuing a pardon and reinstating his children's titles, though Fabian is no longer a prince due to Illean laws which prevent him from reclaiming his title.
While Fabian was in France, King Julian was ruling Illea. He eliminated the caste system, working to bring more egalitarian policies to Illea during his rule. He's a good king, and the people love him. He married and had his own children, the oldest of which is now about to take the throne.
Two cousins who have never met are preparing for a future in the public eye, and a competition is about to be held to decide which two women will get to go with them.
