Last night, a visitor arrived at the palace, a woman in her early forties with vibrant red hair and a luminous smile. Tension seemed to roll in her wake, covering the royals like a thick fog, leaving the Schreaves full of tight-lipped smiles and awkward laughs. No one seemed to know how to behave around her, but that didn't keep her from showing up at the party, introducing herself simply as Emma, the mother of Illea's newest princes and princess, the former wife of its most famous traitor.

Still, the royals are trying to be festive, behaving as though nothing is wrong, pretending that they're unbothered by the reappearance of an eleven year old ghost. 

A week ago, all of the Selected were invited to celebrate Hugo's twentieth birthday party in the ballroom. The gathering is small, consisting only of the royal family, the staff, and the Selected.
