WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN

≪•◦ CHAPTER FOURTEEN | I'M DATING EMMETT CULLEN ◦•≫

••●••

Somehow, Colby managed to get away with spending the whole weekend with Emmett. It felt like a dream, but reality hit hard when she returned home and attempted to reason with her mother once more.

"Mom, please just hear me out!" Colby pleaded, trailing her mother into the back room where they usually practiced family spells. The room was dimly lit, the scent of herbs and candles filling the air.

Heather turned sharply, her eyes blazing with frustration. "Colby, I've told you time and time again. No. They're dangerous. Monsters. Bella shouldn't even be involved with them," she said, her hands trembling slightly as she adjusted the candles on the altar.

Colby frowned, genuinely confused. "How? How'd you know she was?" she asked, her voice tinged with desperation.

Heather sighed, her expression softening just a fraction. "I told you Grace was going to keep an eye on you. Bella just so happens to also be in her line of vision. She's human after all, we're supposed to keep humans safe. Even though the hunters think we're doing the opposite," she explained, finally meeting her daughter's gaze.

Colby felt a pang of guilt but also a surge of defiance. "Fine. But I can't convince Bella to stop seeing Edward," she stated firmly, knowing her mom would've tried to set her up for it, or Grace. "And using magic to do it is illegal," she reminded, her voice steady as she turned to leave the room.
Heather's voice stopped her in her tracks. "Colby, wait," she called, her tone softer now. "I know you care about Bella, but you have to understand the risks. Any slip-up could be disastrous."

Colby stood there for a moment not sure what to say, she managed to just nod before disappearing into her bedroom for the night.

────── ──────

Colby laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions. The argument with her mom had left her feeling drained and isolated. She sighed, trying to push the thoughts away, but they kept creeping back.

Suddenly, she heard a soft tap on her window. Startled, she sat up and saw Emmett's familiar face peering in. Her heart skipped a beat as she quickly got up and opened the window.

"Hey, beautiful," he whispered, his fingers brushed the side of her face  as he tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "Emmett! What are you doing here?" she whispered, glancing nervously towards her door.

Emmett grinned, effortlessly climbing through the window and landing silently on the floor. "I heard you two arguing from the woods. I couldn't just leave you alone, I can make it better if you'd like the company" he said, his voice low and soothing.

Colby felt a rush of warmth at his words. "You shouldn't be here. If my mom finds out..."

"She won't," Emmett assured her, stepping closer. "I just wanted to make sure you're okay." Colby sighed, her shoulders slumping. "I'm just... so tired of all this. The arguments, the secrets. It's too much."

Emmett reached out, gently cupping her face in his hands. "If it's too much for you, Colby, we can end this. I don't want to cause you any more pain," he said, his voice filled with a mix of sorrow and determination.

Colby felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. She leaned into his touch, finding comfort in his presence. "No, Emmett. I don't want to end this. I need you," she said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Emmett's eyes softened, and he pulled her into a cold embrace. They stood there for a moment, just holding each other, the tension in Colby's body slowly melting away. "Come on," Emmett said, guiding her towards the bed. "Let's just relax for a bit."

They lay down together, Colby nestled against Emmett's chest. His arms wrapped around her protectively, and she felt a sense of peace she hadn't felt in days. They laid like that in completely silence.

As the night wore on, the room grew quieter, the only sound the soft rustle of the leaves outside. Colby felt herself drifting off, but a lingering tension remained. She looked up at Emmett, their faces inches apart.

"Emmett," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Hmm?" Emmett said looking down at Colby just as she looked up into his golden eyes, Colby felt a shiver run down her spine at the intensity of his stare. She reached up, her fingers brushing against his cheek. "Stay with me tonight?" she asked softly. Emmett leaned in, his forehead resting against hers. "I'm not going anywhere."

They stayed like that for a moment, the air between them charged with unspoken emotions. Finally, Colby, acting on impulse, she closed the small distance between them, pressing her lips to his. The kiss was gentle at first, a tentative exploration, but quickly deepened as they both gave in to the emotions they had been feeling since he stepped through her window.

Emmett used their position to his advantage twisting them until he was hovering over her, Colby silently thanked herself for the silencing charm she placed on her room the first time Emmett had come over. Colby's finger tangled in his short dark hair as his lips moved from her and down her jaw to her neck.

Emmett's hands roamed over her body, his touch electric as he traced the curves of her waist and hips. He pulled her closer, their bodies pressing together, and she could feel his hardness against her through their clothes.

Colby's breath quickened as he kissed her neck, his teeth grazing her sensitive skin, sending a rush of pleasure through her veins. "I want you, Colby," he whispered, his voice hoarse with desire. "Let me show you how much."

With trembling fingers, Colby began to unbutton her shirt, revealing her lace bra and the swell of her breasts. Emmett's eyes darkened with hunger as he helped her remove the shirt, his lips trailing kisses down her neck and chest. He cupped her breasts, his thumbs teasing her nipples through the lace, causing her to arch into his touch.

"You're so beautiful," he murmured, "so fucking perfect." Colby's hands found their way to his belt, expertly unbuckling it before sliding her hands beneath his shirt. She explored his chiseled abs, her fingers tracing the ridges of his muscles, and he groaned at her delicate touch.

"Fuck, Colby," he breathed, his eyes rolling back as she unbuttoned his pants. "You're driving me crazy." As Colby's hands ventured lower, she felt the rigid length of his erection straining against his boxers. With a wicked smile, she stroked him through the fabric, making him hiss in pleasure.

"You like that?" she teased, her voice husky with desire.
"yes," he growled, his squeezed shut in pleasure. "Take what you want, Colby. I'm all yours." In one swift motion, Colby tore open his boxers, freeing his thick, throbbing member.

She wrapped her hand around his length, stroking him firmly as she admired his impressive size. "I want you Emmett, right now," she whispered, her eyes never leaving his.

Emmett's control snapped. With a growl, he lifted her onto the bed, his lips claiming hers in a fierce kiss. His hands worked feverishly, sliding her shorts and panties down her legs, exposing her to him completely. Colby's breath caught as she felt the cool air on her bare skin.

He positioned himself between her thighs, his member poised at her entrance. "Are you sure about this, babe?" he asked, his voice thick with need. "Yes," she breathed, her hands gripping his shoulders. "Emmett, please."

"If I start to hurt you, tell me to stop." Emmett said, once Colby nodded he slid into her, filling her completely. Colby cried out, her body adjusting to his size, and then she moaned, her back arching as pleasure exploded within her.

Emmett's hips moved in a relentless rhythm, his member stroking her inner walls, sending waves of ecstasy through her body. "You feel so good," he grunted, his teeth grazing her neck, leaving a trail of tingling sensations.

Colby's hands gripped the sheets as she matched his pace, her body moving in perfect sync with his. She could feel her orgasm building, a coiling tension deep within her core. "I'm close," she gasped, her voice hoarse with passion. "Don't stop, Emmett."

Emmett's movements became quicker, not enough to hurt her but enough for her to tell the difference as he felt herself clenching around him. "Fuck, Colby," he urged, his teeth grazing into her shoulder, a gentle nip that sent a jolt of pleasure through her.

With a gasp of release, Colby's body shattered into a million pieces. She convulsed around his member, before she lay limp beneath him from exhaustion.

Emmett slowly pulled out of her causing another moan to leave her lips at the movement, Emmett managed to find a towel to clean her up before he dressed himself in his boxers and went to her dresser to grab her a pair of pajamas, settling on a large T-shirt and underwear.

He returned to her side in seconds, chuckling as the exhaustion on her face as he helps her get dressed, "Are you okay?" Emmett asked, worried laced in her voice. "Perfect." She muttered as she patted the spot beside her, Emmett smiled as he climbed into bed with her, holding her close.

Finally, Colby closed her eyes, letting herself relax completely in Emmett's arms. For the first time in a long while, she felt truly safe.

────── ──────

"Baseball? Bella, you don't play baseball," Colby said with furrowed brows as the two walked through the bustling halls of their high school.

"I know, but Edward invited me to come with. I'm kinda interested in how they play," Bella said as they stopped by Colby's locker. "Isn't there supposed to be a thunderstorm tomorrow though?" Colby asked, raising an eyebrow.

Bella nodded, watching Colby put her things in her book bag. "You okay? You've been a little off lately," Bella asked with concern.

"Yeah, just another pointless argument with my mom. Nothing unusual," Colby replied, closing her locker and then her bag with a sigh. "She still refuses to meet Emmett?" Bella asked, her voice softening. "At this point, I can't even say any of their names around her," Colby huffed, rubbing her neck in frustration. "I'm assuming Emmett came over and gave you some company?" Bella said with a smirk, her eyes twinkling as she noticed the mark on the base of Colby's neck.

"How did you—" Colby began, but Bella subtly pointed towards the mark, causing Colby to take out a compact mirror from her bag and look. "I knew it, bastard," Colby blushed before looking around and mumbling some words, causing the mark to disappear.

"That'll come in handy," Bella laughed.

"Probably. Nothing like sex with a vampire," Colby whispered with a wink, causing Bella's cheeks to flush a deep red. Colby's phone suddenly buzzed, signaling that she had received a text.

Emmett: Up for some vampire baseball tomorrow?

Colby smiled. "Looks like I too will be attending some vampire baseball with you," she said as she quickly replied.

"Perfect, but how will you get away from your family?" Bella asked as they began to walk out of the school.

Colby shrugged. "I'll tell them I'm studying with Jessica. She knows they don't know about Emmett and me, so they won't suspect anything, and Jess is always up to help."

Bella nodded thoughtfully. "That could work. Just be careful, okay?"

"Always," Colby replied with a grin.

────── ──────

Colby walked out of her house, her parents under the impression she would be studying with Jessica, who she had texted moments before acting to cover for her. And as she thought, Jessica was more than willing to do so.

Colby drove her car to the Cullen house, her heart racing with anticipation. Upon arrival, she met up with Bella and Edward, who were waiting for her. They all piled into the jeep, and he drove them to a secluded field where the rest of the Cullens were already gathered. The sky was overcast, and the distant rumble of thunder set the perfect backdrop for their game.

Emmett greeted Colby with a wide grin and a sweet kiss. "Ready to see some real action?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Absolutely," Colby replied, her own excitement mirroring his.

"Glad you two are here. We need an umpire," Esme said, taking the two girls from their boyfriends.

"She thinks we cheat," Emmett said with a chuckle.

"I know you cheat. Call 'em as you see 'em, girls," Esme said, positioning the two behind her.

"Okay," they responded in unison as everyone took their places on the field. Soon, lightning struck, signaling the start of the game.

"It's time," Alice announced as she threw the ball. Rosalie hit it and ran around the bases at an inhuman speed, making it hard for either girl to keep up with her movements.

"Okay, now I see why you need the thunder," Bella said, watching Edward chasing after the ball through the woods. "It's gonna be a home run, right?" Bella asked, causing Colby to laugh. "Your guess is as good as mine," Colby said, attempting to watch Rosalie run. Esme shook her head with a small smirk. "Edward's very fast." Edward retrieved the ball from the grass and threw it. "Come on, Rose!" Colby cheered. "Aye, babe, whose team are you on?" Emmett yelled jokingly. Colby laughed and shrugged with a smirk as Esme caught the ball thrown by Edward just as Rosalie glided to home plate. Esme looked at Bella.

"You're out," Bella said nervously.

"Out! Whooh!" Emmett cheered, while Rosalie shot him an annoyed look.

"Hey, come on, it's just a game, Rose!" Emmett said, trying to lighten the mood. Rosalie glared at Bella before walking past Colby and Carlisle.

"Nice, kitty," Carlisle joked, patting Rosalie's shoulder. Alice threw the ball again, and Carlisle was up to bat. He hit the ball and ran.

Emmett and Edward both jumped in an attempt to catch the ball. Colby watched with amusement as the two boys collided in the air, missing the ball and resulting in Carlisle earning his team a home run.

Jasper was up next. He flipped his bat, waiting for Alice to throw the ball. When she did, Jasper hit it with a loud crack and ran. Emmett climbed a tree, caught the ball, and threw it back.

"Climbing that tree like a damn monkey," Colby said with a laugh, shaking her head. Suddenly, her vision clouded, and her eyes glowed green.

Red eyes, six pairs of them, one pair strikingly familiar with the same glint of mischief in his eyes.

Three figures moved in unison with utter grace, their faces obscured as they came through the trees.

A gust of wind set one of them off, and the entire group of vampires became defensive, having caught the scent of Bella and Colby.

The force of the vision caused Colby to fall. Carlisle caught her as the glowing green hue disappeared just as Alice yelled, "Stop!" Within seconds, Colby was taken from Carlisle's arms and engulfed in Emmett's large embrace.

"This isn't good," she managed to whisper as everyone else ran towards the two girls.

"They were leaving, then they heard us," Alice explained as Edward grabbed hold of Bella.

"Let's go."

"It's too late," Carlisle said. "Put your hair down," Edward instructed Bella next.

Rosalie scoffed. "Like that'll help. I could smell her from across the field. Same with Colby, but at least she doesn't smell human." she said, taking her place beside Emmett. The two hid Colby behind them, who had finally managed to stand on her own.

"They're threatening, I can feel it," Colby whispered. Emmett gave her a sorry glance while trying to protect her.

"I shouldn't have brought you here. I'm so sorry," Edward said, his voice filled with regret, causing Bella to get nervous.

"What?" Bella asked, her anxiety rising.

"Just be quiet, stand by me," Edward instructed. Bella did as she was told, standing close to him as the three figures came into view, just like in Colby's vision. One of the vampires held up the baseball with a smirk.

"I believe this belongs to you," he said, tossing the ball. Carlisle caught it with ease and offered a tight smile.

"Thank you."

"I'm Laurent, and this is Victoria, and James," Laurent introduced, motioning to the two others. Colby managed to sneak a look at them from behind Rosalie. The blonde, James, looked strikingly familiar—the same man who had attacked her the day Jason was taking her to La Push. The revelation sent a shiver of fear through Colby.

"I'm Carlisle, and this is my family," Carlisle said, glancing at either side of him.

"Hello," Laurent said kindly, offering a nod. "I'm afraid your hunting activities have...caused something of a mess for us," Carlisle explained. Colby pressed herself closer to Emmett to avoid James' possible gaze.

"Our apologies. We didn't realize the territory had been claimed," Laurent responded.

"Yes, well, we maintain a permanent residence nearby," Carlisle replied.

"Really?" Laurent responded in surprise. Colby managed to stay out of James' line of view, which caused him to soon glance over at Edward. The two began to glare at each other.

"Well, we won't be a problem anymore. We were just passing through," Laurent said.

"The humans were tracking us, but we led them east. You should be safe," Victoria explained with a sly smile.

"Excellent," Carlisle said with a nod. "So...could you use three more players? Just one game," Laurent proposed. Carlisle glanced in Edward's direction, having a silent conversation.

"Sure, why not? Three of us were leaving, you can take their place. We'll bat first," Carlisle said as he tossed the baseball at Laurent. However, Victoria caught the ball in front of Laurent before he could.

"I'm the one with the wicked curve ball," she said.

"Oh well, I think we can handle that," Jasper said as Emmett smirked, crossing his arms. He looked back at Colby, nodding towards Edward, silently telling her to go to him. Colby nodded, her breath shaking as she softly walked towards Edward. The bronze-haired boy gently took Colby's arm, pulling her closer to Bella.

"We shall see," Victoria said as everyone started to walk away. James and Edward continued their stares as he kept Colby and Bella close.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew Bella and Colby's hair. James inhaled, instantly recognizing Colby's scent, but Bella's intrigued him more.

"You brought a snack, and the little witch bitch whose brother thought it was a good idea to try and kill me," James said with a smirk. The Cullens jumped back in front of Bella and Colby, the vampires all crouching down like animals.

"You're human?" Laurent asked, looking at Bella before glancing at Colby. "She doesn't smell like a witch."

────── ──────

"The girls are with us. I think it best if you leave," Carlisle warned, his voice steady and authoritative. Laurent nodded slightly, acknowledging the unspoken threat.

"I can see the game is over. We'll go now. James?" Laurent called, noticing James wasn't moving. At the sound of his name, James reluctantly turned and the three of them disappeared into the woods.

Carlisle then turned to Edward, urgency in his eyes. "Get Bella out of here. Go."

"Take Colby with you," Emmett added, his tone firm. Colby looked at him, worry etched on her face.

"I'll meet you," Emmett reassured her. Colby nodded as Edward grabbed hold of her and Bella's arms, leading them swiftly to the jeep. Edward tried to buckle Bella's seatbelt, but she pushed his hands away.

"I got it!" Bella exclaimed, fumbling with the buckle. Edward closed the door and hopped into the driver's seat.

"Take me to my house. I may have something that could help," Colby instructed. Edward nodded and sped off towards Colby's house, slamming on the brakes as they arrived. He looked back at Colby as she was getting out.

"Meet Alice outside in five," he said. Colby nodded and ran inside.

"Where the hell have you been?" her mother, Heather, demanded as Colby rushed past her.

Colby ran to the back room, her mother following closely. She grabbed her grimoire from a shelf.

"Colby Luna Salvatore, I asked you a question. What the hell is going on?" Heather's voice was sharp with concern.

Colby sighed, turning to face her mother. "I was with the Cullens and Bella in a field, playing baseball. The rogue vampires that have been hunting in the area showed up and caught Bella's scent. I'm going to help them protect her."

"I told you not to involve yourself with those monsters! You're grounded, and you're not going anywhere," Heather declared, her face flushed with anger.

"Ground me, fine, but we're supposed to protect humans, and that's exactly what I'm doing. If they were monsters, they'd let Bella die, and they're doing the exact opposite!" Colby argued, her voice rising.

Heather stayed silent for a moment, knowing her daughter was right. "Colby, no—"

"Yes, Mom, please, for once, just listen to me," Colby pleaded.

Heather sighed, her shoulders slumping. "What?"

"I know you've just been trying to protect us, but everything you were told about them is a lie. I have to do this," Colby insisted.

Heather huffed, her resolve weakening. "Fine, but you're grounded when you get back."

"Then I might as well tell you I'm dating Emmett Cullen," Colby said, her voice defiant.

Heather's emotions were conflicted as she sighed. "Definitely grounded."

Colby kissed her mom's cheek before running out of the house. She saw Emmett's jeep and immediately got in, noticing Bella's truck was already gone.

"Everything will be okay," Alice said, her voice calm and reassuring.

"How do you know? You can't exactly see my future or my family's," Colby replied, her voice trembling.

"It's just a feeling," Alice said with a gentle smile.
