Chapter 8
Third person
Later that night Leo left the castle and headed towards the forest. No one stopped him because they knew that he did this almost nightly. Everyone was just so used to it.
As the vampire approached the forest he could sense that something was off. It didn't have it's usual open and welcoming feel. Something was definitely wrong.
The trees looked normal, but there was an ominous vibe to them. As Leo walked farther the forest became darker instead of lighter. He thought it was strange because Blake would usually give off light from far away at night to see where he was going. Now the vampire knew something wasn't right.
When he reached the opening where the pond was he didn't spot Blake at first. He thought that was strange because he knew that the flame boy was there every night, waiting for him. When he glanced down he gasped in shock.
"Blake!!!"
There on the ground lay Blake, a layer of ice covering most of his torso. Nothing like this had ever happened. Leo quickly ran over to his friend and started trying to figure out what to do.
The ice was hurting Blake horribly, cooling his body to an unsafe temperature. Steam was rising off his body but he was already too cold to melt the ice on his own.
Without even thinking, Leo took out a book of matches. He kept one in his pocket for no reason in particular. If he were honest he really just had it there because it reminded him of Blake.
He lit the match and dropped it on the ice. It didn't stay lit long enough to melt any of it. Leo simply tried again except this time holding it to Blake's skin to heat him up. The flame boy's body heat started to rise and the ice started melting.
Leo didn't stop using his matches until he ran out. A few moments after that Blake had melted all the ice but his body was still cold.
"Blake, what happened...?" The vampire asked, hugging his friend in hopes that the close contact might raise his temperature more.
"Ice Queen... It was an accident..." The flame boy answered softly, feeling drained of his energy from the horrid ice.
"What do you mean accident? I found you here, covered in ice... It seemed like she was trying to kill you..."
"She wasn't... She was using the trees for a sort of target practice because her aim is terrible... I was burning off the ice so it wouldn't damage the trees... She shot some ice and her aim was off so it hit me... She didn't know what to do so she bolted..." Blake explained, knowing that the situation was an accident.
Leo sighed and held his friend close, still trying to warm him up. The vampire was cold most of the time but was still hoping to help his friend.
In reality Leo was. Being this close to him flustered Blake a bit and made his body temperature rise. The two spent that night cuddling and keeping each other warm.
