Chapter 50
Third person
The couple continued to travel until they reached the Candy kingdom. During the time they were gone their parents had grown closer and spent a lot more time together. It helped them to cope with the thought of never seeing their sons again.
Blake and Leo held hands rather tightly as they made their way into the kingdom. It was sunset now so Leo was barely using his umbrella. They both hoped that their parents wouldn't be upset, but they would be surprised if they weren't. They did run away for two years after all.
The banana guards saw the couple walking towards the castle and were about to alert Gumball and Marshall when Leo gestured for them to stay put. He didn't want this to be told by anyone but them. It wouldn't be right for anyone else to tell them.
As the couple walked through the doors they both took a deep breath. They couldn't predict how Leo's parents would react, but it could go two different ways.
Either they would be happy that Leo was home after two years and just hug the life out of him, or they would be furious that he up and left for that long and try to ground him even though he was technically an adult. Both were secretly hoping for the first reaction. They didn't want anger to be the emotion they came home to.
The couple snuck through the castle until reaching a casual family room. It was dark, only having a dim light from a small fire in the fire place. Even through the darkness Leo could see his parents; snuggled close on a loveseat with Marshall teasing Gumball's hair in their doze. It was clear that neither of them were in very high spirits.
In all honestly his parents were losing hope by the hour. Each day that passed only made them lose more hope. Eventually they feared that their son was never going to come home because he thought they would forbid him to see Blake. That wasn't what was going to happen anyway.
Leo suggested that Blake wait outside the room for a few moments just until he saw their reaction. Of course the flame boy agreed to this since Gumball and Marshall were Leo's parents and not his. He told his partner that he would go see his parents at that they would meet up later that night to tell them about the wedding.
As soon as Leo fully entered the room his parents woke up. Once they saw him they were hugging him tightly, saying how much they missed him and how they never intended to separate him and his partner, which caught him by surprise.
If he had known this information sooner then he would have never run off with Blake. Perhaps if he had just waited a few more moments things would have been different. But it was too late to change anything. What's in the past is in the past.
Meanwhile Blake returned to his home and quietly opened the front door. This was still not quiet enough. Before the teen could even fully step inside he was nearly tackled by his parents.
They told him how happy they were that he was home and that they never wanted him to pull a stunt like that again. Of course that was understandable. No parent would ever want their child to run away from home with no explanation for years at a time.
After a few hours of catching up both families met at the edge of the Candy kingdom. It was a nice area where it was quiet and no one would spy on them. The prince's homecoming would be a big deal after all.
None of the parents knew why their sons had brought them together. Neither Leo nor Blake had given them any detail. They wanted it to be a surprise.
"We're getting married." The couple explained in unison.
