Chapter 49

Third person

Many months past and now it was time for the couple to start their journey back home. It was one week before Leo's birthday, just like they planned. Both of them were very excited to be heading home. They couldn't wait to see their parents again.

There was a lot of walking involved during the journey home. They stopped whenever they needed rest but kept a very steady pace when they were walking. They wanted to get home in good time.

Sometimes they would stop during the day to make it safer for Leo, or during the rain to make it safer for Blake. They could rely on each other to stay safe. They would never do something to hurt the other. If Leo said he needed to stop then his partner would. The same went for Blake. They wanted their partner to be comfortable.

As they traveled certain landmarks became familiar. Markets they had bartered in for goods and forests they had camped in came back as memories. They both remembered the good times that arose because of them running away.

Neither of them could say they regretted it. The time alone together only made them closer and stronger as a couple. It was a true test of their love, which had proved itself to be unbreakable.

After a week's time of hiking through the land the couple stopped for a day to celebrate Leo's birthday. It wasn't anything fancy and it didn't need to be. The vampire really didn't like being fussed over. He never really did, but of course Blake wanted to celebrate because it was Leo's day.

They set up camp in a nice and cool forest. They spent the day talking and hanging out like they normally did, but Blake had a very special surprise planned. He had been planning it for a while.

"One more game, this one's special." The flame boy stated, making his partner laugh.

"We've been playing games all day, what makes this one special?" The vampire asked, not knowing what his lover was planning for him.

"Just close your eyes." Blake instructed.

Leo did as his partner told him and closed his eyes. He didn't know what to expect at the moment. Blake could have been planning anything.

While the vampire had his eyes closed Blake had gotten down on one knee and taken out the ring he prepared to give to his partner. The flame boy had decided he wanted to do this for months and now finally had the chance.

"Open your eyes." He said softly.

When Leo opened his eyes he was in shock. He had never expected Blake to be proposing. Just the thought of marriage made him excited.

"Leo, you are my best friend and the only one I love. You're always there for me when I need you and the one who makes me happy when I'm sad. The only way you could make me any happier is if you would do me the honors of being my husband. Leo, will you marry me?" Blake asked, pouring his heart into the most important question he would ever ask in his life.

The vampire hugged his partner tightly. He couldn't believe what he was just asked. To him it shouldn't have even been a question. Of course he would marry Blake.

"Of course I will!" Leo replied excitedly, pulling his new fiance into a sweet kiss.

They both smiled as they shared a soft embrace. Blake slipped the peach colored diamond ring onto his partner's ring finger. The day could not have been more perfect.

"Where did you get this?" Leo asked softly, admiring the beauty of the ring.

"Those big birds we hunted a few months ago were worth a lot in the market and there was a blacksmith making jewelry... I figured it would be a good time to get you a ring..." Blake explained to his fiance.

"I love you..." The vampire said softly, hugging the other tight.

"I love you too."
