Chapter 26
Third person
It had been several days since the two boys had their first date. Blake was very happy with their relationship, Leo however was stressing. The fact that he had to hide it from his parents was eating at his insides. He wasn't sure how much longer he could keep the secret.
The vampire didn't want to lose his lover, but the guilt of keeping a major secret from his parents was eating him alive from the inside. He feared that he could slip at any time. If he slipped up and called Blake his boyfriend instead of his friend then his parents would know. That would be bad. Leo wasn't entirely sure what would happen if they found out.
Marshall Lee would most likely shrug it off as nothing. He was far more relaxed than Gumball. He wouldn't care about Leo dating Blake as long as they weren't being physically intimate. Gumball however would worry about his son getting his heart broken. The last thing he wanted was his son's emotions being toyed with and then the boy leaving him a broken mess. Gumball would never let that happen to his child.
That's why Leo was worried. He knew his parents were very protective of him. Marshall might kill Blake if he didn't approve. Leo wouldn't be surprised if Marshall tried. Gumball may have been more protective emotionally, but Marshall would kill for Leo without a second thought.
The teenager couldn't allow his partner to be hurt because of him. He would never forgive himself. He would also never forgive his parents if Blake was hurt because of them. He wouldn't be able to find it within himself, as much as he loved them. There are some boundaries that once crossed, can never be forgiven; hurting Blake because of his love for the vampire was one of those major boundaries.
But alas, the anxiety and guilt of keeping a secret was eating away at him. He feared about slipping up and chose to keep his mouth shut in general. He didn't talk for hours, which concerned his parents.
"Is everything alright, Leo? You're being awfully quiet..." Gumball asked, knowing his son was never this quiet unless something was wrong.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine Dad... I just have nothing to say I guess... I don't mean to make you worry..." Leo replied, keeping his head down.
It took everything he had to keep his mind off Blake. He wasn't about to put it passed his parents not to invade his thoughts to figure out what was wrong with him. There was no way he was going to take that risk.
He distracted his mind with family memories of anything he did with his parents; hikes through the forest, music lessons, baking lessons, family movie nights, anything. He refused to give any hint that he was thinking about Blake.
Gumball shrugged it off as nothing. He figured that his son was tired or just wasn't in the mood for conversation.
Leo knew that this was going to be difficult. He had absolutely no idea how he would manage to do this for the next two years.
