Chapter 22
Third person
Luckily Leo had reached the clearing by the pond a few minutes early. He decided to set up the picnic before Blake arrived so it would be more of a surprise.
The vampire laid out a nice blanket and set their dinner out. He put down a few candles and would let Blake light them. The flame boy didn't mind lighting candles and actually liked to do it because it gave his fire a purpose.
The last thing Leo did was pour their drinks. He chose red wine, although technically neither of them were old enough to drink. No one ever really drank anymore anyway, but Leo thought it would be fitting with their date. It's not like they would drink much anyway. He didn't plan on getting drunk.
Now all he had to do was wait. He was a bit earlier than normal. And perhaps Blake was just running a bit late. It wasn't a big deal. He would wait.
It was about ten minutes later before Blake came into view. He was surprised to see what Leo had set up. He couldn't picture anything more perfect for their first date.
The flame boy sat down across from his partner and smiled. He saw what his boyfriend had created and smiled. Leo had remembered his favorite dish: spaghetti.
"You remembered..." He said softly, a smile on his face.
"Of course I remembered... What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't?" Leo joked, earning a small laugh from the other.
The vampire gestured for his partner to eat. Blake of course made Leo eat some as well. There was more than enough food for two.
The two shared the large plate of spaghetti and drank red wine. Neither of them had tasted it before and they both liked it. It had a nice flavor to both of them. Although Leo especially liked the fact that it was red. He liked to drink dark reds. He thought they had better flavors.
The two talked for a bit about the things new couples do; favorite colors, hobbies, interests, etc. Although these were all things they already knew about each other. They just wanted the experience to feel like a real first date; as if they were meeting each other for the first time.
They both enjoyed it very much. They enjoyed it more because it was with their best friend. Both tried to visualize them with someone else and figured that the date would never have been this enjoyable.
Blake knew that someone he had never met wouldn't go through the trouble to prepare his favorite food and set up a lovely picnic. That was what Leo would do because he enjoyed those things. And Leo knew that he wouldn't have as nearly a good of a time as he did with Blake. Blake just made him happy without even trying.
The two twirled spaghetti around their forks and ate their bites. The noodle continued into the plate on both their ends. They both continued to find it until they ended up finding each other. The two boys shared a sweet kiss under the stars. It was the perfect ending to their perfect first date.
