Chapter 12
Third person
By the time the two had been to a majority of the kingdom it was roughly noon. That's when it hit Blake that he never went home to his parents. He was positive that they must be worried.
"Hey Leo, um... I really like being with you and all, but... I never went home last night and I'm sure that my parents are really worried... Would you mind if we stopped by? Just to let them know that I'm not missing or anything?" Blake asked, making sure not to sound like he didn't want to spend time with his only friend.
"Of course. You took me home when I needed it, it's only fair I do the same for you." Leo replied, seeing no problem with visiting the flame boy's home.
It might sound strange, but in the ten years they had been visiting each other they had never been to the other's houses before. They liked staying by the pond or in the forest. They never knew what they would find there. Every day was a surprise. In their houses it would be rather predictable. Plus parents always made things awkward and uncomfortable for teenagers.
The two headed through the forest, stopping at the pond for just a few moments. It was truly their favorite place, even if it was more like a wading pool.
It was sort of weird how they met at a pond. Water hurt Blake after all. Why would he be around the pond? It made his flames go out. If he got enough water on him he could die.
"Hey Blake, when we first met, why were you near water? It hurts you..." Leo asked, never really thinking of any possible reasons why.
Blake went quiet for a moment. That was nearly ten years ago, but he still remembered it vividly. They were just kids then. They were innocent and thought the world was full of wonder. But they soon would find out that it wasn't all it set out to be.
"Well... I didn't have any friends... This was the only place I could be alone without my family bothering me about going out and making friends... I was always too scared to... I knew I would hurt them and then they would leave me... So I just went outside every night to be here... My parents assumed I must have had a friend or something... And then one night I met you... You were the only one who wanted to be my friend, no matter how much I burned you... I can't thank you enough for staying by my side for all these years, Leo." Blake explained, a small tear evaporating off of his cheek.
Leo hugged the other tight, steam rising from the contact and body heat. He didn't care if he got burned. The vampire always considered it worth it.
Leo had never considered that Blake didn't have the opportunity for other friends. Then again, neither did the vampire. Perhaps that's why they were so very close. They were all the other needed.
