✮ Chapter 1: Don't worry

Jeno steps out of the vehicle, the sunlight illuminating his skin, eyes squinting at how bright it is compared to a few seconds ago in the air conditioning car, the tinted windows slightly shielding him from the brightness outside.

"Do you need help with that?" The Uber driver kindly asks him.

"Ah, no, it's okay. I got it." Gently waving him off with a gentle smile, grabbing his suitcase out of the vehicle.

"Okay, then." The uber driver hums.

He nods curtly, "thank you." Jeno says before closing the car door. He looks at the house before him, astonished at the freshly mowed lawn, flowers blooming here and there, windows squeaky clean.

The gate was open, he hesitated for a second, wondering if it's okay to just waltz in or it would look like he's intruding and it would leave a bad impression.

He decides to do the crazy move and welcomes himself to the terrain. Dragging his suitcase with him, a backpack weighing him and hurting his spine, he knocks on the front door.

While waiting, he couldn't help but feel a tad bit nervous. Finger nails digging in to the straps of his heavy backpack, teeth gnawing on his lower lip; that might leave a bruise.

Once the door opens, a boy just about his height, smiles widely at his presence. "Jeno! Welcome!" Opening the door wider to give more space, he extends his arms to hug his guest tightly.

"Hey, Renjun." A soft chuckle escapes his lips, feeling slightly relieved after receiving a warm and welcoming greeting.

"Come in, come in!" The older boy ushers him inside, without even asking, he snatches the suitcase from Jeno's grip.

Jeno closes the door behind him, about to say something, Renjun beats him to it. "Your room is upstairs, second door to the right, it used to be my art studio but don't worry about that. I just finished cleaning it by the way, don't worry about that either."

Jeno couldn't help but feel overwhelmed, "Junnie..." The older boy hums, turning his head to look at him. "Are you sure it's okay for me to stay here for a while? I might be bothering you–"

"Nonsense!" Renjun cuts him off, shaking his head. "You're very much welcome to stay here, Jeno! Besides, I wouldn't be putting in all the work to prepare a room for you if I didn't want you staying here."

Smiling shyly, he scratches his nape, "gee, thanks, Junnie... I appreciate all this, it's just..." He trails off, trying to find the right words to describe what he's feeling right now.

Renjun notices, "you don't have to say anything else," he places a hand on Jeno's shoulder. Giving a light squeeze, "just accept this offer, Jen. I'm more than willing to help you through this."

"Thank you, Junnie... Really."

"Of course!" Giving another squeeze, Renjun turns his head before screaming. "RYO! COME DOWN HERE!"

Footsteps were heard, fast and heavy, until a boy rushed down the stairs and pants. "Yes?"

"This is Jeno, he's the friend I told you about." Renjun gestures towards the mentioned blonde boy, the latter waves shyly. "Be nice to him. But not too nice."

"What does that even mean?" Ryo tilts his head, confused at the sentence.

"Just don't be annoying and disturb his personal space." Renjun glares at the younger boy, slightly elaborating what he meant.

"I won't!" He replies, and turns to look at Jeno who's awkwardly standing there. "Hi Jeno! It's nice to finally meet you! Welcome to our home." Hands extend to emphasize the inside of their family house. A cute and friendly smile plastered on his face.

Snorting, Renjun rolls his eyes. "This is Ryo, my younger brother." He briefly introduces. Jeno stretches out a hand, Ryo smiles and accepts, shaking their hands gently.

"Here, take this." Renjun gives the handle of Jeno's suitcase to his younger brother's hand. "Bring Jeno to his room." He orders instantly.

"What?!" Ryo gapes, "why can't you?"

"I'm going to prepare dinner, why? Do you know how to cook?" Renjun raises an eyebrow, daring his little brother to reply.

Ryo pursed his lips and shook his head, "well then, go help Jeno settle in," he then looks at Jeno and asks, "are you in the mood for some pork sisig?"

Jeno nods as a reply, Renjun smiles at that. "Great, I'll call you guys when dinner's ready." Before turning around to head over to the kitchen, he stops, "ah right, our parents are out of town right now. They might be back in a day or two, don't worry, they know. I'll tell them you just arrived."

"Thank you." For the third time this day, Jeno thanked the older boy. Renjun nods curtly in response before disappearing into the kitchen.

He then follows Ryo upstairs, the younger boy struggling with the suitcase on their way to his room, Jeno didn't let that slide of course. Upon entering his new room, he sets his backpack down and stretches his back, letting out a tired breath from carrying its heavy weight all day.

He glances at Ryo, who seemed to be more out of breath than him. Chuckling at the younger boy. "Thank you, Ryo, you can get some rest now."

Ryo blinks, "don't you need help with arranging your things?" He wonders, still panting.

Jeno shakes his head while smiling softly. "It's okay, I got it. Thank you again for your help." Noticing Ryo's unsureness, he walks closer to him and ruffles his hair gently. "I'll let you know if I do need your help."

"Ryo! You better not be annoying Jeno!" Renjun's muffled voice from downstairs was suddenly heard, Jeno giggles at his friend's little brother who grunts.

"No worries, I'll handle him for you." Sending him a wink, tone in a joking manner.

Ryo then smiles at that, straightening his posture, he waves Jeno goodbye and leaves his room. Jeno takes a look around the place, analyzing how he will arrange his things– well, he doesn't have many things anyway; it's mostly clothes, some of them not even folded properly and instead were just shoved in.

Hands on his hips, he decides to unpack his suitcase first. It took more time than he thought when it came to arranging his stuff, nothing but some shuffling from him was occupying the quietness in his new room.

He finished just in time before Renjun called them for dinner, Ryo waiting for Jeno in the hallway so they could walk downstairs together, with him showing Jeno around their beloved home.
