Chapter 42
Rosie's POV
I couldn't believe him! How could he do that to me! He promised me. When mother and I returned to my room, I threw myself onto my bed and started to cry. Mother sat beside me and rubbed my back and whispered sweet things to me, but it didn't work. I started to cry harder when I realized that I was laying on Daniel's pillow and I could smell his sweet scent. "Oh honey. It'll be alright. Soon you will forget all about him and what he has done to you", she said. I sat up, the tears still falling from my red and puffy eyes.
"What am I going to do? I can't stay here with him, it'll be too painful. What do I do mother?" I asked through the tears. I put my head into my hands as the tears flowed from them. How could he...? NO! Don't think about him! But what will I do? You will get through this. You are strong. You can get through anything. You've been through much worse. No I haven't. YES YOU HAVE! DON'T DOUBT YOURSELF! "Rosie, are you okay?" I quickly lifted my head and stared at my mother through my blurry vision. "Did you hear what I said?", she asked. I shook my head no. She sighed, "I said you need to forget about him. You could come home with me. Back to Paris. I can help you. You may think it now, but you can be happy again. You just need to forget about him."
There was no way that I heard her correctly. Was she asking me to come home? How could she want me to come home? After all I've done to her? After what I said? How could she forgive me? " Well? What do you think? Do you want to stay with me for a while?" Before I even knew what I was doing, I found myself nodding my head. "I will stay with you for a while, but I don't want to go back to Paris. I want to stay here.", I told her. She nodded her head and pulled me into her arms as I cried.

Daniel's POV
What was I going to do? She wouldn't let me talk to her. How could I prove that I didn't do this to her? Why would I do this to her? Why would someone frame me? Why would someone else hurt her? What were they gaining from this? I have to figure this out. And I know where to start, or more specifically, I know who to start with. Her father was never really fond of me being with her. Maybe he knows something. I quickly ran out of my room and headed downstairs into the dining room. Sure enough, that's where he was. Sitting at the head of the table drowning in a bottle of Scotch.
"I know you want to talk to me", he said, his words slurred. "Sir, are you drunk?", I asked carefully. He shook his head and said, "You and I know that you don't care about my physical state right now. You care about...what's her name...ummm...", he said taking another swig from the bottle. "Rosie?", I asked finishing his sentence. He hiccuped and pointed at me with the hand holding the bottle of Scotch. As he shook his finger, the alcoholic liquid spilling onto the table, creating a firewater puddle.
"Yeah, that's her name. Rosie. You're concerned about her. You want to know how to fix whatever you did to her.", he said as he took another swig from the bottle. "That's the thing. I didn't do anything. She thinks that I cheated on her." I said as I sat next to him and took the bottle from his hand and took a long gulp as it burned my throat. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Erik's eyes widen. "What do you mean that she thinks you cheated on her? Where would she get a crazy idea like that?", he asked suddenly sobered. "Her mother told her and then supposedly found evidence. It's not true, though. I love Rosie. I would never want to hurt her." With each word I spoke, I could feel my heart tighten and crack.
Erik looked at me, almost as if he was fighting with himself. Then he said, "I know you love her. And don't worry about me thinking that you did cheat on her. I know you didn't." I lifted my eyes to meet his, stunned and said, "What do you mean? You believe me?" He didn't answer my question, but continued talking. "I know it wasn't you. I know you were framed. And I know who framed you."
I was confused, but inside I was jumping for joy. He knew who framed me. He could help me fix my relationship! He could help! "You know? Who? Tell me!", I asked frantically. I needed to know. I needed to fix this. He sighed, claimed the Scotch once again, and took a long sip. Liquid courage. "The reason that you were framed was because the person wanted Rosie back in their life. They didn't and don't like you and they don't believe that you are the best person for her, regardless of her feelings for you. The person figured that since Rosie wouldn't leave you on her own, that maybe if there was an unfortunate event, like for example, you cheating on her, than she would leave you and seek comfort in that person again.
"Now, I know what you are thinking. You are thinking that I was the one to frame you-" "That's not what-" "Please let me finish, boy. As I was saying, you are thinking that I was the one to frame you, and you would be correct. I did frame you, but not alone. There was another person who was the primary factor in this plan. Unfortunately, I was only an accomplice, but after seeing and hearing what it did to Rosie, it broke my heart. That's why I'm down here. Trying to bury my guilt in Scotch."
I couldn't believe it. I mean, I suspected him, but still. Actually hearing it, it's shocking. "Who was the primary factor? Who came up with the plan?", I asked seething. I had a feeling that I already knew who it was.
Erik took a deep, shaky breath before saying, "Christine."
