Chapter 30
~~~~Eric's POV~~~~
"I should get back to work.", Rosie said as she walked off to greet a customer. I nodded and made my way back up to my room.
Maybe she was right. Maybe I did have to give Daniel a chance. He did seem like a good enough man to let me stay here even though I was a threat to his family. Was I a threat? Did I threaten him? I never meant to. He is the one that threatened my family. He took my daughter as a wife without my blessing.
Did I have to give him a chance? Did I have to let her stay here? Did I have to let her be happy? I should be the only person to make her happy. I was the only man in her life. I was the only man that she had ever loved and now this pup comes into her life and is taking that love away.
I can feel the light, that is her love and affection, slowly start to dim. He will hurt her. It doesn't matter who he is to her or what kind of relationship they have. He will hurt her. It's only a matter of time until it happens, and then, she will come crawling back to me. I will once again be the only man that she loves. I will once again be the only man in her life. I will once again be her father.
How? That is the question. How will I go about this? It needs to be in a way so that she won't suspect that I had anything to do with it. I got it! I'll set up a situation in which she will catch Daniel cheating on her with another woman. But who? Who is the right person? Who would go against her? Who knows her well enough that this will hurt her even more?
I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard a soft knock on the door. "Come in", I said. The door opened slowly, revealing an unfamiliar face. "I'm sorry, but who are you?", I asked politely. "Oh I'm sorry. My name is Brigid. I'm Rosie's best friend and I also work here in the inn. I just came to tell you that Rosie said that breakfast is ready.", she replied. I gave her a nod and she left.
When the girl left, it felt like a light bulb went off in my head. I will use Brigid to have an affair with Daniel, and then have Rosie catch them in the act. This plan is foolproof. She will never know hat it was me.
I left my room and headed downstairs to the dining room for breakfast. No one could know what I was planning. Not even Brigid. "Hey Brigid, can you help me in the kitchen for a minute?", Rosie called from the kitchen. Brigid got up and followed Rosie's voice into the kitchen. It was just me and a few other guests sitting at the table.
One of the people sitting at the table was a young looking man, maybe about in his late twenties, early thirties, and he was staring at the door that Brigid had went through only a minute ago, a look of lust in his eyes. Hmm. Seems like they had a thing together.
"Excuse me, sir, but do you and that woman have a thing going on?", I asked the man. He turned my way and looked me in the eye before he had a mischievous smirk on his face, and I knew that my question was answered. After a few minutes, Rosie and Brigid came back into the dining room with breakfast and served it to everyone, before leaving the room to attend to other things in the inn.
~~~~Brigid's POV~~~~
When Rosie called me into the kitchen, I knew that something was wrong. I could hear it in her voice. She sounded... I don't know.... Off. "What's wrong, Rosie? What do you need help with?", I asked my best friend. She was standing against the counter, her hands gripping the edge tightly. I started to panic. Something was wrong. She was pale and she seemed delirious.
I instantly became alert. "Rosie, what's wrong? Tell me what's wrong.", I said grasping her shoulder and spinning her around to face me. I stared into her eyes and waited for her to respond. She was even paler than she was moments ago and she was starting to get a greenish complexion.
She tried to recover as best as she could so she could deliver the food to everyone. "I'm fine, Brigid, really. Can you help me deliver the food?", she asked me. I nodded my head, helping to steady her. We both grabbed the few platters of food and made our way into the dining room. Once we gave everyone their food, I followed her out of the dining room and upstairs into her room.
When I got up there, I found Rosie with her head buried in a bucket. I knew that something was wrong with her. I walked up to her and started running her back in a soothing motion. When she was done, she got up, but soon started to wobble and fell, unconscious, into my arms. "Rosie? Rosie? Rosie! Rosie, wake up. Wake up! Please, wake up!", I screamed at my friend. I started to panic. What is going to happen to her? Is she alright?
I carefully laid her on her bed and ran out of her room and down the steps and out the front door looking for Daniel and a doctor. I found Daniel and their daughter, Felicity in the park a few streets away. "Daniel! Daniel! Daniel!", I yelled as I ran up to them. When I reached them, I was completely out of breath. "Brigid? What? What is it? Why are you here?", he asked.
I gasped for a few seconds, but when I remembered the reason as to why I was here, I quickly spoke, "Daniel, it's Rosie. She threw up into a bucket and then went unconscious. I put her on her bed and then ran here to find you.
She was looking a little pale after you left and that she was about to faint. I was on my way to tell you and to get a doctor.", I said in one breath, once again causing me to catch my breath. Daniel's eyes instantly widened and he immediately called for Felicity to come back to him. He thanked me and started to run back to the inn. Me, I continued my way to find a doctor.
After about 5 minutes, I finally found a doctor and was currently in a carriage with him back to the inn. When we got back to the inn, I led the doctor upstairs to Rosie's room. He entered the room and told Daniel, who was already there holding her hand, that he had to leave. Once Daniel had left the room, the doctor went in and started his evaluation on Rosie.
It felt like hours until the doctor came back out. While we waited, Daniel and I were literally sitting at the edge of our seats. When the doctor came out, Daniel and I stood up. "How is she, doctor?", Daniel asked. "Is she alright?", I asked next. The doctor sighed saying, "Rosie will be fine. She was just a little dehydrated."
Daniel and I both sighed in relief while we hugged each other and we silently prayed a thank you to God. "But, I did find something else.", the doctor continued causing our mini celebration to cease. "What did you find?", Daniel asked. "Well, one of the causes to her nausea is dehydration, but another cause is to certain changes within her body.", he said. Daniel and I both gave the doctor a confused look. He sighed saying, "Rosie is..."
