Chapter 27
"Welcome, sir. How can I help- *Gasp* What are you doing here?", I asked as my body went rigid. There he was in all of his terrifying glory. "Mommy, who is this?", Felicity asked as she coward in my arms at the sight of the man.
"Rosie, I have come to take you home. It has taken me many years to find you, and now that I have, we must leave.", Eric said. I stared into his eyes, fury pouring from mine. "I will not be going anywhere. I left for a reason."
Eric's eyes held sorrow and guilt, but I didn't care. I was tired of people lying to me. I'm tired of the secrets. Eric's mouth opened and closed as if he was going to say something, but couldn't find the right words. Suddenly, Felicity started to whimper in my arms and that was when Eric's eyes landed on the little girl. His eyes widened as he noted the similarities between us. He knew.
"Who is this?", he asked. I was frozen in my place. Eric started to walk towards me slowly and instinctively my arms tightened slightly around Felicity. I jumped suddenly when I felt a familiar set of hands grasp my shoulders gently.
Daniel had come in. He sensed my unease and did his best o comfort me. "I as again, who is this?", Eric said again, stalking forward some more, this time venom dripping from his voice and his eyes burning with anger. He was visibly shaking. That was never a good sign.
Daniel noticed the change in the atmosphere and both mine and Eric's behavior. Daniel was generally a gentle giant, but when you messed with his family and friends, it was guaranteed that he would not rest until he had his revenge. He wasn't violent, but that didn't mean that he was nice. He was and is a good man, but he is very protective and territorial.
Daniel protectively stepped in front of me and Felicity and pulled out his sword that kept with him at all times. Eric stopped in his tracks.
"Darling call him off and come home.", he said as Daniel pointed his sword at him. "Daniel, it's ok.", I said. Daniel turned at looked at me. "Rosie, are you sure? You seem uneasy. If he makes you uncomfortable, I'll-" "Daniel, really it's ok. Let me talk to him." Daniel turned once more to look at Eric before putting his sword back in his sheath.
Daniel backed up until he was back at my side. He gently grasped my shoulders once more while saying, "If you need anything, just call me, ok?" I nodded my head and gave him Felicity. He took one more look at Eric and left the room.
"Who was that?", Eric asked. I looked back at him still confused as to why he was here. "That was Daniel. He is my husband.", I replied. I watched Eric's face as his eyes widened and his nostrils flared. "And I'm guessing that that girl is you daughter?", he asked. I carefully nodded my head. I knew that he knew the answer, but he just needed to hear it.
"When did this happen?", he asked. "What do you mean by 'this'? My marriage? My daughter? What?", I asked, confused and angry. Why was he here? Did he follow me? Why did he want to take me back?
"Everything. When did everything happen?" "Why should I answer your questions when you don't answer mine. I'll tell you everything when you answer my questions.", I said, hatred laced in my voice.
Eric sighed in defeat. He knew I was stubborn. "Alright. I'm here because I want you back home. Your mother is worried sick about you and misses you. It's my fault that you ran away and I want to make it right by bringing you back home.", he said.
I stared at him. I shook my head. "I don't want to go home. I have a life here. One that I can't just walk away from because a man from my past wants me to. I like it here and I'll never return so you can hop back on the boat that brought you here and tell mother that I am fine.", I said in a breath. When I was finished I was out of breath.
Eric looked even angrier. He walked up to me and struck me across my face. I was caught completely off guard which caused me to stumble backwards and hit my head on the front desk. I was starting to lose conscience, but before I blacked out I heard yelling and the sound of metal clanging.
Daniel had seen what had happened and attacked Eric. I knew that Eric had a sword and was an excellent fighter. I didn't know how good Daniel was, but from the sound of it, he was winning. Suddenly, the clanging of metal stopped and I felt two strong arms wrap around me and lift me up.
I knew that the familiar touch was no doubt Daniel. After a few minutes, I felt the softness of the bed underneath me. "You'll be ok, Rosie. It's just a little bump. You'll probably have a headache in the morning though. ", he said. I felt the wetness of a cloth on my head and then I blacked out.
