Chapter 22

"I love you, Rosie.", said Eric. "I love you too.", I said tears still flowing from my eyes.

We were still in our little embrace, when I was suddenly struck with one question. "Eric, why are you here?", I asked suddenly curious.

He looked down at me and sighed. "I was following you. I saw you walking through the town, and I wanted you to be safe, so I followed you from the shadows. I'm sorry.", He said.

I wasn't shocked. I wasn't scared. I wasn't fazed at all. Maybe it was because I was still shocked at what just happened.

I noticed that he had a forlorn look on his face and he had tears in his eyes.

I brought my hand up to his face and brushed away the tears that happened to fall. I gave him a smile as my hand brushed his cheeks.

"You don't have to be sorry. You saved my life. Thank you.", I said. He smiled, the tears still falling from his dark eyes.

We hugged once more and his warmth was comforting me again and I wished I still lived with him. I missed him.

That was the absolute truth. I did miss him. I missed him, Meg and the Opera Populaire.

I began to cry just thinking about my old home. Eric noticed the tears falling from my delicate face and said, "What's wrong my flower?"

I looked up at his handsome face. I never knew why he said he hated it. I thought it was beautiful.

I smiled up at him as I remembered the fun times we all had and when he would call me his flower or his Angel of Music.

"Nothing is wrong. I was just reminiscing. That's all. Like the time when I was four and I went swimming in the lake with you and Meg had a cow."

He laughed at the funny memory.

~~~~Flashback~~~~
"Papa, it's really hot in here. Can I go swim in the lake? Please I'll be careful." I asked.
Papa looked at me from his organ. "Alright, Rosie. You may go swimming, but I must accompany you.
The water is far too deep for you to swim on your own.", Papa said as he got up from the old organ bench.
Papa left the room and went to retrieve our swimsuits and came back and put mine on.
After our swimsuits were on, papa and I made our way into the lake.
We were splashing around and having fun when mother came out from her and papa's room and started yelling, "Eric get her out of that water right now before she gets pneumonia!"
Papa and I stopped what we were doing and looked at her. "Oh come on, Meg, lighten up. She was hot and wanted to cool off and I'm right here. What could happen?", papa asked.
Mother gave him a stern look and papa took me in his arms and said, "Sorry, Rosie. Looks like we can't go in the water. You know how your mother worries."
~~~~End of Flashback~~~~

We started laughing again as we remembered that story again.

When we finally stopped laughing, we had noticed that it was a lot darker than it was a few minutes ago. "Wow, it got really dark in the few minutes we were here.", I said.

Eric looked down at his watch. His eyes widened in surprise and said, "That's because we haven't been here for a few minutes. Rosie, we were here for a few hours."

Fear. Fear was the only thing in my mind. Mother must be worried about me.

My eyes widened with fear at the thought of Raoul. What if he came home and found out that I left a few hours ago and still haven't come home?

What would he do? Would he beat me like mother? I didn't want to know.

Eric felt my body stiffen. "I should probably get you home. Who knows how that drunken fool, Raoul will fell about you being out this late."

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked up at him. He never wanted to come close to the house where Christine and Raoul lived.

"Come on, Rosie. Lets go catch a carriage and take you home.", he said.

I was grateful and followed him, holding his rough, calloused hand as we walked to find a carriage.
