Chapter 2
As my father and mother talked quietly in the other room, I made my way out to my secret entrance.
Papa never liked it when I would look around as a young girl. He said the people would see me. I knew that that was impossible because nobody was ever here.
As I walked down the lonely hallway filled with cobwebs and rats I tried not to scream. I was highly afraid of rats and if I did scream, my father would be furious to know that I disobeyed him.
I came to the entrance above the stage to the left, and I couldn't believe my sight. I saw men working with different tools from the looks and sounds of it. They were obviously trying to rebuild the damaged stage from the fallen chandelier.
I quickly covered my mouth with my hand and ran back to my father's cave, which was my home. Then I stopped suddenly. What would I say to him?
Hey dad. I went walking through the Opera House even when you told me not to and saw men working at restoring it. That means that it will be opening again.
No I couldn't say that. He would be more worried about grounding me for disobeying then about a few men working on the old Opera Populaire.
I walked casually into my room and pretended that I didn't leave and that I didn't see anything. I didn't realize that I had fallen asleep.
I woke up awhile later to the sound of my mother's sweet angelic voice and her gentle hand shaking me. "Rosie honey wake up. Your father and I want to talk to you."
I sat up tiredly and asked groggily, "What time is it?" My mother looked at her watch and said, "9:56. You slept through dinner and I didn't want to wake you."
I walked into the room the my parents and I called the dining room. As i walked in I saw my father sitting at the head of the table. He was reading the local paper and it just happened to be today's issue.
My mother cleared her throat. He looked up at her and then looked over at me as if he didn't know that either of us were in the room.
He gave my mother a nervous glance and then cleared his throat. "Rosie why don't you have a seat," he said flatly.
I reluctantly took a seat next my father and my mother took the other seat next to him. My mother looked worried. I didn't know why until I looked at my father.
He had what seemed like a angry expression on his face and I was worried about they wanted to talk to me about.
My father opened his mouth and then I began to think that maybe he knew that I had snuck out and disobeyed him.
