Chapter 7 -Battle of the boyfriends
My brother, Aiden, opened the door.
“Wait one second sis, our game is almost over,” he said and then ran back over to Alex’s room. I sighed and yelled, “Hurry up!” and immediately wished that I didn’t, because Eddie walked out. Wearing only his boxers if I may add, and he looked like he just woke up.
“Who was at the door Al-,” he started but stopped when he saw me. I coughed.
“Um, I’m here to pick up my brother, but he insisted on finishing his video game or whatever,” I said with a formal tone while looking down. Eddie walked back to his room. For a second there I thought he was being childish and ignoring me. I could see Adrian’s clenched fists, but then he came out this time with a t-shirt and jeans.
“Sorry, I just felt uncomfortable wearing only boxers,” he said yawning. Well, this is awkward. Everyone is just staring at each other. Correction: Eddie and Adrian are glaring at each other while I helplessly look at both of them. Another cough comes from me to break the awkward silence. Now both of them are looking at me. You know, it’s time to be mature; the past should stay in the past.
“So, how’s… life?” Worst conversation starter, ever.
“Why should you care?” Eddie said harshly. Ouch.
“Hey! Watch how you talk to her!” Adrian yelled getting closer to him.
“Look, it’s the boyfriend to the rescue,” Eddie said with an annoying smartass tone. Ah crap. Right as Adrian was going to lunge at Eddie, my brother walked out.
“Are you finished? Let’s go,” I said. He nodded. The doorbell rang. My brother opened it.
“Alex is this one of your friends, because if it’s not, I totally call dibs!” he yelled and Alex walked out.
“You’re such a guy,” I said and pushed him aside looking at the girl at the door. Ah hell, it was a demon.
“What’s wrong with her eyes?!” I heard Alex yell. He sees it? Adrian got out his stake but the demon lunged at him knocking his stake over.
“Adrian!” I yelled and threw my stake over to him. He staked the demon. It was hard but he managed. I released a sigh of relief.
“You’re in the demon hunters?” Eddie yelled sounding shocked.
“You know about them?” I yelled back. I knew his parents were in it, but I knew he wasn’t one. I wouldn’t think his parents would tell him without at least one sibling becomes a demon hunter. I think Alex is one. My head started getting really dizzy and I collapsed on the floor fainting. A flashback of me breaking up with Eddie played in my head. It was when I first found out about the demon hunters and I had been busy with training and I was kind of ignoring Eddie, so he accused me of cheating on him. I broke up with him for not having trust in me.
*******
“It’s your fault!”
“How is it my fault?”
“You confused her!”
“You’re sad.”
“What’s up with her cheek?”
“The eyes still haunt me”
I slowly opened my eyes and mumbled, “Shut up.”
I realized I was on the couch.
“Are you ok?” Adrian asked trailing his fingers across my cheek.
“Yeah, can you get me water?” I asked.
“The kitchen’s over there,” Eddie said and pointed. Adrian walked away. My brother and Alex were on the other end of the room. Alex looked really freaked out. I guess he didn’t know anything about the demon hunters. Poor dude, I know how he feels.
“Two years ago, did you first realize you were a hunter?” Eddie asked. I nodded. Eddie had this weird look on his face.
“Why did your parents tell you about the demon hunters?” I choked out.
“They always thought I was going to be one. You know how only one sibling in each family gets this job, so they told me to get me ready. I guess they were wrong, Alex is the one with the powers,” Eddie said.
“You’re lucky, your life is more normal,” I said. He shook his head.
“My whole family is in the demons hunters but me. I don’t call that normal.”
“Well it’s the same thing with my brother, but he doesn’t care,” I said.
“What happened to your cheek,” he said his hand reached out and stroked my bandage. I turned my head.
“Just a small incident with a demon,” I whispered. Eddie had a face of horror. Oh please, if he saw me this morning I don’t know what he would do. Adrian came back and handed me the glass of water. I drank from it and felt better.
“Let’s go before we’re late Adrian,” I said and stood up.
“I think Alex should also come,” I whispered.
“Come where?” Eddie asked.
“A meeting is called for the demon hunters,” I said.
“I want to come too,” Eddie said.
“You’re not a demon hunter,” I said. I don’t care if he gets offended.
“Even my brother stays home,” I said to make him feel better.
“Come on Aiden, let’s go.”
