Chapter 17- Danni's warning comes to life
*Recap*
I do want answers. What am I thinking? I can’t trust Lucifer. I need another way to find these answers. The demon hunters are out of the question- Max is saying they’re lying to us. Suddenly I felt so lost and alone.
“Guys, Max is right, we do need a plan,” I said already brainstorming when there was an explosion right behind us.
Chapter 17-Danni's warning comes to life
Screams filled the park. People were running around in panic. It’s funny how the atmosphere of a place can change in a second. I was lying on top of the grass; I looked to my left and saw Alan and Max stuck under the weight of the wooden table.
I pulled out my stake right on time as a demon attacked me. I barely had time to pull it out of the demon as another one attacked. I pushed it off and got myself up, but didn’t need to stab it for Adrian did. I smiled at him, before instinct took over. The demons would never cause chaos in public. What the hell is Lucifer thinking? I had a really bad suspicion, but I put that aside as I dodged a little demon that was thrown by a huge one. Ok, this is getting weird. I ran towards the wooden table.
“Adrian, cover me,” I yelped.
“Got it!” he yelled back and kicked a demon away as another one attacked. He’ll be all right. He’ll be alright. If I repeated that, I would be all right as well. I lifted the table up.
“Can you walk?” I asked them.
“I sprained my ankle, because the edge lodged into it,” Max said getting up painfully.
“I’m fine, just sore!” Alan said.
“I really wish you had a stake right now,” I said groaning.
“You know what’s worse. I can’t even tell for sure which ones are the demons, because everyone is running around,” Alan groaned. Right. I had forgotten that Alan could not see the freaky glowing grey eyes.
“Just try to dodge the demons. Don’t attack, just use self defense, and try to go back to the house. We have spells on the outside to keep demons out, remember? Can you manage that?” I asked. The house’s border had a prayer put in to block out supernatural beings.
“I have a black belt in two different martial arts, I’ll manage,” he scoffed. I rolled my eyes.
“I’ll be fine. It’s just a sprained ankle!” Max said. I glared at him.
“You can barely walk,” I said.
“Erm guys, sorry to ruin the moment, but a little help would be awesome!” Adrian yelled fighting a group of demons. I ran to help Adrian, making sure no demon got to Max and Alan.
“Shit fuck!” I heard as Elysia fell in front of me out of nowhere.
“Stupid demon throwing me,” she mumbled.
“Are Danni and Mikey ok?” I asked not seeing them.
“As ok as you guys. You go put Max somewhere safe I’ll- let me finish a sentence!” she yelled, stabbing a screeching demon.
“Anyways, I’ll be here helping out Adrian,” she finished.
‘We’ll be fine,’ Adrian’s voice said in my head. I guess our bond has grown stronger.
You guys get hurt and I’ll kick your ass, alright?
Adrian chuckled.
“What’s so funny? We’re completely outnumbered!” Elysia exclaimed while hitting a demon.
“Come on guys!” I yelled. Alan grabbed Max and they ran/limped towards our home. I fought off any demon in our way, adrenaline pumping in my body. Finally we entered the border of our yard. The two demons following us screeched, but ran back towards the way of the park. Panting I tried to gain my breath. Max passed out.
“I’ll get Max inside and fix his ankle with a first aid kit,” Alan said.
“I’ll go back to help,” I said.
“Wait!” Alan said and ran back into the house. He came back with a glass of water.
“Seriously?”
“Wouldn’t want you to be dehydrated,” he said. I drank the water, thanked him, and ran back. The park was empty of people. The demons didn’t seem to care; they were just determined to get us.
“Yes, more help!” Mikey yelled throwing a fireball at one of the demons.
“That is awesome!” I said. Mikey didn’t seem to think so with the look he gave me. Apparently Sam had improved her power considering she threw a demon against a tree with the raise of her hand.
“Is Max ok?” Danni asked while dodging a claw.
“He’s with Alan at the house, so more ok than us I suppose,” I said. Suddenly the demons stopped and started shifting.
“Oh no,” whispered Elysia. The demons each changed from the human form they had into their true form, and believe me it was pretty disgusting. They had grey aging skin, cat like eyes, and big black scaly wings.
“Haven’t demons ever heard of showers?” Adrian muttered.
“This is some serious shit,” Elysia said before charging them. We followed suit. However, the thing was that, the demons were stronger in their true form.
“I don’t think our training has prepared us for this,” I groaned fighting one who wouldn’t stop screeching and scratching.
“Well, we’ve never really had a situation like this, did we?” Sam said. The good thing was that Adrian and I made a great team, Mikey was on fire-literally, and no one was seriously hurt. An arrow whizzed past my ear and hit the demon right in the heart. It screeched and dissolved away. I looked back and saw all the demon hunters of this town.
“That’s for trying to hurt my daughter,” my mother said.
My mom saw my confused expression and said, “Blessed arrows.” I did not even know that was possible or that my mom was badass at archery. The hunters attacked. I saw my dad with a sword- an actual sword- cutting off demon heads. I put my shock and awe aside and continued fighting. After a while we finally managed to finish them off. I was dead tired. I put my hands on my knees, panting. My heart was pounding in my ears.
“You ok?” Adrian asked me. I nodded. The sky rumbled, and I looked up to find grey clouds.
“We need shelter. Head over the house,” John said.
********
“Scientists have no explanation to the freak storms coming up all around the world,” said the news reporter.
My dad changed the channel.
“A bomb has been exploded in every major city all around the world. We fear it’s a major terrorist group. Their purposes are unknown,” said another news reporter. My dad sighed and turned off the TV.
Fitting around 20 people and their families in our house was not an easy task. I squeezed in next to Adrian on our living room floor. I leaned my head against him. Apparently, our basement was filled with emergency supplies. Obviously, someone was expecting this situation. All the hunters were seated in the living room for a meeting.
“Now, you plan to explain what is going on, dad?” Max growled standing up when John entered the room. I winced; Max never stood up to his father.
“Calm down, son,” John said calmly. Max looked humiliated. I didn’t know why he looked so betrayed.
“You’re not telling us the whole truth. What’s so special about us seven?” Max managed to ask without yelling.
“Max is right, dad. The freaking apocalypse is starting, and we have no time for this. We hunters deserve to know everything, so we can actually fight,” Sam said. I saw people nodding and agreeing.
“If you two would let me talk, I would tell you what we know,” he said. Everyone shut up.
“When Alexis, our former psychic, died, she did not just leave one prophecy. She left two,” John started. My eyes widened. A small gasp escaped Danni’s lips. He didn’t bother telling us? Everyone seemed surprised at this new piece of information.
“The second prophecy is as follows,
The seven will either be the savior or the destroyer
Not even Lucifer’s blood nor the angel’s tears can stop the fate of the seven
The dark lord will rise with the blood of the seeing.”
John gave us a minute to process the information. I groaned. Great, more information, more riddles, and more shit to figure out. What the hell does it mean by “the destroyer”? The dark lord shall rise? Isn’t Lucifer raised already? He came to me in the kitchen… or was that just a psychic dream?
“Is this even real,” Adrian muttered. I looked at him shocked. He was having the same thoughts, same fears as me. Alexis was also slowly starting to lose it. She couldn’t decipher what reality was. What if we became like that?
“I didn’t want to create panic, or hate, with the second prophecy, so we kept it secret. We were testing on the seven to, yes, find out their powers, but to also learn how to contain the powers. We were trying to find a way around the prophecy,” John finished. I looked at my parents, and they looked guilty.
“You knew!” I exclaimed. My mom looked alarmed.
“Amy, we couldn’t have told you,” my dad started explaining, but I was pissed off. They knew all this time, and they didn’t bother telling me?
“Just shut up! You guys have never trusted me anyways,” I growled and stalked off to my room.
I opened the door and came across a lady and a little girl. The little girl walked up to me.
“My daddy says you’re very brave and you’ll save the world!” she said looking at me in awe.
“Who’s your dad?” I asked confused.
“He’s a healer,” she said smiling. Dr. Hems thought about me like that? But, I was a coward! I didn’t want this. I looked at her and ran out of the room. I can’t handle this pressure. Tears filled my eyes, and I scolded myself for getting upset over this. I plunged into the nearest room and crashed into someone, both of us falling on our butts. I groaned and looked at the person who I had crashed into.
“Eddie?” I asked confused. What was he doing here?
“My family is in the demon hunters, smart one,” he replied reading my thoughts. I flushed with embarrassment.
“Oh right, my bad,” I muttered. He chuckled and helped me up.
“No worries! What’s wrong?” he asked probably noticing the fact that I was about to cry.
“Nothing,” I said and turned around to escape, but he grabbed my wrists.
“Don’t lie to me, Amy,” he whispered. Even though, I did need comfort at the moment, I did not want to get close with Eddie. It was just a feeling. I’m being stupid. Eddie is being nice to me, and here I am thinking badly of him.
“You alright, Amy?”
I turned my head and came across Elysia, who was glaring at Eddie. Eddie released me and stepped back.
“Come on,” Elysia said grabbing my hand and leading me away.
“Where are we going and why aren’t you at the meeting?”
“I didn’t want to stay and listen to bullshit, and I needed to check up on you.”
“I’m fine.” Elysia snorted.
“There are so many people,” she groaned. I nodded in agreement. We were trying to find a secluded place.
She opened a bathroom door and pushed me in with her, while locking it.
“Erm, since we’re both really awkward during mopey situations, I’m not going to do well with this, right?” Elysia asked me. My lips twitched up to a smile. Elysia grinned.
“There’s that beauty!” she said hugging me. I couldn’t help but cry on her shoulder.
“Thank you,” I mumbled pulling away after a while. She shrugged.
“What are best friends for?”
