41. Of Complications & Photographs

Arianne couldn't get even five minutes of sleep that night. Her kiss with Adrien was still carved in her mind, and she couldn't make it go away, for several reasons. The first one being that she didn't think that it would ever happen. The thought of Adrien possibly liking her back hadn't crossed her mind at any moment.

Second, it took her completely by surprise.

Third, she had kissed him back. Yes, she ran away after it, but she had kissed back, when she shouldn't have done it because she would be a bad friend to Marinette, but she did it anyway. And the worst part was that she didn't feel sorry, when guilt should have been swallowing her whole.

She was really a bad friend.

"Are you okay?" asked Thiago as both of them walked to school "You look tired"

"Oui, perfect" replied Arianne, holding back her yawn. Thiago frowned.

"Are you sure?" he asked once more, and she nodded. Then, she looked ahead, and immediately went to hide behind the stairs as Thiago gave her an incredibly confused glance "What are you doing?" he questioned, furrowing his eyebrows "Who are you hiding from?"

"I'm not here" that was Arianne's reply.

Why was she acting so weird?

Because she had seen Adrien coming their way, and she couldn't face him. Not yet.

"Hey, Thiag" Adrien spoke up to Thiago, as both boys bumped fists. Adrien hadn't noticed the girl hiding yet, and she was hoping he wouldn't "Is Arianne coming to school?" Thiago looked at Arianne hiding out of the corner of his eye, and she shook her head.

"Yeah, but she's running a bit late" replied Thiago, looking back at Adrien. If Arianne didn't want Adrien to see her, she probably had a reason, which he would ask her about later.

As you may have already noticed, Arianne hadn't told Thiago about their kiss. She hadn't told anyone. The only one who knew was Ayu, because he was there with her at that moment.

"Oh, shoot" replied Adrien "I really wanted to talk with her"

He had no idea why Arianne had ran away like that when he kissed her, but if he had done something wrong, or maybe she didn't want to be kissed, he wanted to know. He wanted to apologise.

"Did something happen?" asked Thiago, folding his arms with interest, and giving Arianne a quick glance out of the corner of his eye.

"Yeah, I—" he was about to answer, but the bell rang, announcing the beginning of classes "I'll tell you on the way"

"Uh..." Thiago gave Arianne another secret glance, and she nodded, signalling for him to go "Okay, sure" he nodded, looking back at Adrien and both boys went off, leaving only Arianne and Ayu behind.

"You gotta get to class, Aria!" urged the kwami "Or you'll be late!"

"I know, I just..." the girl sighed "I don't know what to do Ayu. What am I supposed to tell him?"

"Whatever your heart tells you to!" replied Ayu, and Arianne smiled in amusement.

"That was so cliché, Ayu" she said, rolling her eyes a bit.

"Cliché is sometimes good!" replied the wolf cheerfully "Now, c'mon. Today's the class photo, you can't miss that!"

"Okay, you're right" she nodded and stood up. She walked to the class, and, thankfully, the teacher wasn't there yet.

And what is the first thing that she sees?

Adrien sitting on the first desk, while talking to Nino. When he saw her standing there, his eyes lit up a bit, but Arianne completely avoided his gaze as she walked to take her place next to Thiago. Needless to say, the blonde was very confused because of this.

Marinette and Alya sitting behind them noticed this action.

"Did something happen between you and Adrien?" questioned Marinette, giving Arianne a curious glance.

"N-no, nothing" she replied in a stutter. She obviously couldn't tell Marinette what happened.

"Then why did you ignore him just now?" questioned Alya, folding her arms skeptically.

"I-I didn't" replied the girl "Class is starting. We'll talk later"

At the end of class, Arianne was the first one to rush out, but Adrien caught up to her quickly.

"Aria, wait up!" he rushed to stand by her side, but she didn't say anything as she kept walking "Can we...talk?"

"I can't" replied the girl, shaking her head "I really want to grab a book from the library before taking the photo. Sorry" she didn't leave time for him to answer as she went off, leaving a very perplexed Adrien behind.

"What's going on?" asked Thiago, who had watched the scene from afar.

"I...don't know" replied Adrien, shaking his head sadly "Do you think she's mad at me for what happened?" on the way to the classroom, Adrien had told Thiago about his kiss with Arianne.

"I don't know if mad's the word" replied Thiago, shaking his head. Arianne wouldn't be mad at Adrien for kissing her. In any case, she should be happy.

Though, knowing what Arianne thought, the kiss was probably bothering her to some extent.

"I'll try talking to her" added the boy "Maybe I'll figure out something"

"Thanks, dude" replied Adrien sincerely.

"I'm going to be in a photo with Adrien!" said Marinette excitedly later that day, when the class was waiting their turn to take the class photo.

"Maybe because it's a class photo and you are in the same class?" questioned Arianne with a tad of sarcasm.

"Amazing, isn't it?!" asked the girl excited "Oh. My. Gosh, what if we're standing on the same row together?"

"Girl, you're too funny" replied Alya with a chuckle "Just smile. And whatever happens...don't forget to breathe!"

"At least you know you're going to be in the photo" the trio looked up to find Juleka and Rose standing behind them.

"No, Juleka. I'm telling you" Rose spoke up "You're not jinxed. This time it's gonna work out, I can feel it! Right here!" she placed both hands on her heart as she leaned against Juleka.

"What do you mean 'jinxed'?" asked Arianne, as she and the other two girls stood up to talk better with Rose and Juleka. Juleka sighed before starting to speak.

"Ever since I was little, every time someone takes a photo of me something always goes very wrong"

"You're wrong, Juleka!" assured Rose sweetly "You'll see!"

"For sure!" Marinette nodded in agreement with a smile "We'll make everything we can to make sure it goes right this time!"

"You have our word!" Arianne added "And don't forget to smile! Someone could be falling in love with your smile, Juleka!" Juleka smiled upon hearing that, just as the photographer spoke up.

"Okay, it's time to flash your pearly white, guys!" he approached them "You kids take a seat on the front bench!" he told this to Marinette, Myléne, Alex, Rose and Max "Quickly, please! I have sixteen other classes to shoot!" they did as told, and walked to sit on the front bench.

"Go on, Rugrats!" yelled Chloe mockingly, making Arianne glare at her "Don't forget to take your thumbs out of your mouth!" Arianne was emotionally exhausted and she didn't feel like listening to Chloe.

"Chloe, shut up"  she scolded sternly "No one is interested in what you have to say"

"Next row" the photographer spoke up, and gestured to Nathanael, Alya, Thiago, Sabrina and Chloe "Go stand on the last bench please"

"Wait just one minute!" Chloe spoke up and placed an arm around Adrien's shoulder. Arianne clenched her fists, much to her surprise. She had never felt jealous of Chloe's interactions with Adrien before, so what was going on now? "I'm supposed to be in the middle row, right next to Adrien. Preferably in the centre"

"Nah" the photographer replied "Go stand in the back row with the rest"

"How dare you put me behind?" questioned Chloe, walking towards the photographer "Do you know who my father is?"

"Is he a photographer?" questioned the photographer with his arms folded, much to Chloe's disbelief.

"No! He's-"

"Too bad. I could really use an assistant" Arianne snickered silently when she heard that "Now, hurry up and take your place, or I'll put you up in front with the babies!"

"I love this guy!" Arianne said with a chuckle, as Chloe groaned and did as told.

"The rest of you, boys and brunette, go stand up in the middle row" they all nodded, and Arianne purposely stood on the left edge, as far as she could from Adrien. She then noticed Juleka still standing far away from them with a sad expression.

"Sir, excuse me!" Arianne called, raising her hand "You forgot Juleka!" the photographer, upon seeing his mistake, told Juleka to stand next to Adrien, right in the centre.

But then, the photographer claimed that there was something wrong with the picture, and proceeded to change people of place quite a few times, in which Chloe kept saying that the reason the picture wasn't working was because she wasn't standing next to Adrien.

When the picture finally was in place, the battery of the camera ran out and he went to fetch another one. In the meanwhile, Juleka went to the bathroom, and Sabrina went off too after Chloe told her to, to make sure that Juleka didn't come back.

After some minutes, the photographer came back, while Juleka didn't, and Chloe took the chance to stand next to Adrien.

"What do you think you are doing?" questioned Arianne, folding her arms in disapproval "Where's Juleka?"

"When did you get here?" asked Adrien frowning at Chloe.

"Who cares?!" questioned Chloe, placing an arm around Adrien's shoulder.

"I do!" replied Arianne "You can't always have what you want, Chloe! It's time you get that!" Arianne couldn't help but think of Adrien when she said this, and the image of the kiss came back to her yet again.

"I want all of you flash your brightest smiles, because this is the last time we're doing it!" announced the photographer.

"No, wait!" said Marinette and Arianne at the same time.

There goes their class photo.

"Okay, what's going on?" asked Thiago to Arianne later that day, while in an empty classroom "Adrien told me some of it, but I wanna know how you feel right now"

"I don't know what I feel" replied the girl with honesty.

"You don't like him anymore?" questioned Thiago with a frown.

"No, I do!" replied the girl with a nod.

"Then what's the problem?" he asked, folding his arms.

"The problem is that I kissed him back" replied the girl "And I'm not sorry" Thiago opened his eyes wide upon hearing that "Yes, I know. I'm a terrible friend"

"That's not what I was going to say" replied Thiago, shaking his head, much to Arianne's curiosity "I was going to say that there's nothing wrong with kissing the guy you like, especially if he kissed you first"

"It is wrong for me" replied the girl, and Thiago sighed.

"How long are you going to keep this up, Arianne?" questioned Thiago "There's no need to make things so complicated! Isn't this what you wanted?"

"Don't give me that, Thiago" replied Arianne "You know how I feel about this situation!"

"Adrien doesn't!" cried the boy, making the violinist frown.

"What are you talking about?"

"Adrien thinks that you're mad at him because he kissed you" explained Thiago patiently. He didn't like to see Adrien so upset like he was. He didn't like seeing any of his friends upset! "If you're going to keep this up, let Adrien know what's going on. That's the least you can do, he doesn't deserve this"

Do you think that Thiago is right and Arianne should tell Adrien what's going on?
