20. Of Moviemaking & First Kisses
"Agent Smith, it's too dangerous! We must evacuate!" Adrien exclaimed to Myléne. The class was currently filming a short movie so Nino could get into a contest. They had divided the tasks amongst all of them, or most of them, since Chloe and Sabrina didn't do anything.
Myléne and Adrien were the lead actors, Nino was the director, Marinette was the producer; Alya and Thiago were the screenwriters, and Arianne was the production sound mixer; she basically made sure to choose the right soundtrack, and that the sounds were heard clearly.
"You're suggesting we run, Officer Jones?!" demanded Myléne "After it devoured my family? My friends? Even my beloved dog Sniffles? Never!" she stood up, holding a water gun in her hands "I won't run! I no longer fear it! I'm going to face it and I—" she screamed when she saw Ivan with the monster mask, much to everyone's annoyance.
"CUT!" yelled Nino "Myléne, that's like the tenth take, and we are only on the first scene!"
"Fourteenth, actually" corrected Alex, making Nino groan. At this rate, they wouldn't be able to finish the movie in time.
"I'm sorry" Myléne apologized sheepishly, peeking from behind the desk "I'm gonna do better in the next take, I promise" Arianne looked at her sympathetically, though she had to admit that after two hours she was getting annoyed as well.
"Anyone wants some tea?" asked Rose sweetly.
"You're playing a hero from the special forces" said Nino, ignoring Rose "You're not supposed to get all freaked out!"
"I know" replied the girl "But...that monster mask he's wearing is so...realistic and scary!"
"It's just me, Myléne" said Ivan, showing her the mask "Nothing to be scared of"
"You ask me, he doesn't even need a mask" mocked Chloe, and proceeded to burst out laughing.
"Well, he's a lot better than what you have to look in the mirror everyday" Arianne spoke up, making some of her classmates chuckle.
"Ivan, put the mask back on, you're playing the monster!" ordered Nino, before looking at the lead actress "And Myléne, we need you to stay in character!" when Myléne looked at Ivan with the monster mask, she started to sing her 'happy song', 'Smelly Wolf'. She sang as she stepped backwards, bumped into Adrien, and screamed once more.
"And the Oscar for best pathetic scaredy cat afraid of her own shadow goes to...Myléne!" mocked Chloe once more. Myléne ran off crying.
"Chloe!" said Adrien angrily "Seriously?!"
"Yeah, so what?" questioned the blonde, with no interest at all as she folded her arms.
"Chloe, you disgust me!" said Arianne, as angry as Adrien "Is anyone going to go after Myléne?!" she questioned, and Ivan went running out of the room to fetch the girl.
"Epic, Chloe!" scolded Nino once Ivan left "Just epic!"
"What are we supposed to do know without the leading actress, huh?!" questioned Thiago, folding his arms. He had only known Chloe for a couple of weeks, but he already disliked her a lot.
"Who needs her, anyway?" questioned Chloe, sitting on one of the desks "She was totally lame!"
"You're lame!" Ivan's voice came from the door, and all the teens turned to look at him. He seemed very angry "Myléne is crying her eyes out in the bathroom thanks to you!"
"Me? Lame?!" said Chloe angrily. Marinette exchanged glances with Alya and Arianne, before speaking up.
"Hey, hey!" she said, raising her hands up "Everyone chill out!" she turned towards Ivan "You're right, Chloe is lame, but fighting isn't gonna bring Myléne back" she then turned towards the rest of the class "I'm the producer, and I'm gonna do everything in my power to finish filming tonight!" Max then proceeded to say, very precisely, might I add, that the deadline for the film festival was tomorrow evening "Thank you, Max!" said Marinette with a smile "And we still have editing, post sounds, soundtrack..."
"And who's gonna take Myléne's part?" questioned Adrien, sitting on the teacher's desk.
"Uhm...me, of course!" replied Chloe.
"Uh-uh, no way" said Thiago "There's no way you are going to act in our movie!" he gestured to Alya and him.
"You haven't even read the script!" added Alya, shaking the script in front of her.
"Of course I have!" replied Chloe, approaching Adrien "The first scene, anyway. I can even tell you that it ends with a kiss between Agent Smith and Officer Jones!" Arianne opened her eyes wide, and dragged Thiago to one corner of the room.
"You wrote that?!" she questioned angrily "Seriously?!"
"No, I didn't!" replied Thiago, and then looked at Alya quizzically. The girl looked at the script, and frowned.
"I didn't write that, either!"
"Uh...I did" Nino spoke up sheepishly, making both screenwriters to turn to look at him "It was just a little tweak, to move the story forward..."
"Who gave you permission to edit our script?!" questioned Thiago, angrily. He was not going to let Chloe kiss Adrien, under no circumstances.
"And you didn't even tell us!" added Alya, just as angry "That's low!"
"Wait a minute!" Nino spoke up "It's my script, too! I'm the director of this movie!" Alya groaned at him, and Adrien sighed tiredly.
"Oh, who cares who wrote what?!" questioned Chloe "We gotta film this thing!"
"She's right" Max agreed with Chloe "Principal Damocles is only allowing us to use the school until 6 PM sharp"
"Adrien and Chloe kissing cannot happen!" said Marinette to Alya, Arianne and Thiago.
"I agree with you there!" said Arianne "No way!"
"It doesn't fit in the story, anyway" stated Thiago.
"Yeah" agreed Alya "The main character's emotional journey—"
"Hold on!" said Marinette silently, raising her hand up to hush Alya, before rushing to the front "We can't let Myléne leave just like that!" she said to their classmates, who were surrounding her in a circle "It's...wrong! We all chose her to play the leading female role!" she added, placing her hands on Alya's shoulder "And we are all in this movie together! She needs our support! I'm gonna go find her and bring her back!" decided the girl, walking away from the classroom.
"CUT!" yelled Marinette, getting into the classroom, just as Chloe and Adrien were about to kiss.
"Thank you!" said Arianne, looking at her friend. She hadn't been able to stop Chloe, but, thankfully, Marinette had arrived just in time before she could see something she wouldn't be able to unseen.
"Marinette, we're in the middle of a shoot!" said Nino, angry because the girl had interrupted the filming "And I'm the director, FYI! I say cut, no one else!"
"And I'm the producer! Myléne is supposed to be the star of this movie!"
"We're out of time, and for what I can see, Myléne is MIA!" he turned to look at the rest "Let's take it from the top, people!"
"Here we go again..." Adrien sighed tiredly.
"This is beat!" said Alya, approaching the director "Agent Smith does not need a man in her life right now, Sniffles just got munched on, remember?!"
"Do we wanna finish this film or not?" questioned Nino. The tension was growing in the classroom.
"Then let's just make Agent Smith a nurse instead!" suggested Chloe, causing Thiago to give her an expression of utter confusion.
"What?" he questioned "Chloe, that doesn't make any sense!" he added, pinching the bridge of his nose "And the character is already planned out! We can't change it in the middle of filming!" Nino, Alya, Thiago and Chloe started to argue loudly, and Arianne was getting irritated.
"Can you shut up for five minutes?!" she yelled, making everyone go silent "We are not getting anywhere like this!" she turned to look at Chloe "Chloe, your nurse idea is perfect" she said, making everyone look at her confused.
"Aria!" said Thiago, but the girl grabbed him from the shoulder and brought him closer.
"We are not actually doing that, is a terrible idea, but we have to get rid of Chloe" she told him in a whisper, before smiling sweetly at Chloe.
"Of course it's perfect!" replied Chloe, full of herself "Because it's mine!"
"Now that I think about it..." started Thiago. Getting rid of Chloe was a wonderful idea, and he also had another plan "It does sound good" Alya and Nino gave him a confused glance "Why don't you and your assistants go search for a uniform in the nurse's office?" he suggested "Try them on, see how they look"
"Kim, Max!" she said, snapping her fingers "Come with me. You've just been promoted to wardrobe and bodyguard!" then, they went off.
"Thanks, screenwriter" said Nino sarcastically "Now we don't have a leading actress again!"
"That's where you're wrong" he replied with a smirk, and turned to look at Arianne "We have Arianne" the girl opened her eyes wide.
"Uhm...that was not part of the plan if I remember correctly" she replied "I'm the production sound mixer, not the backup actress!"
"We don't have a backup actress" said Thiago as a matter of fact.
"Exactly" replied Aria "There's no way I'm acting!"
"I can't believe you actually convinced me to do this" said Arianne to Thiago some minutes later, while reading the script.
"You wanna kiss Adrien, don't you?" he asked, folding his arms with a smirk.
"Well...yes...I-I mean, no! I mean..." she stuttered nervously, making Thiago chuckle. Arianne, instead of telling him something, turned to look at Marinette, who was standing some metres away, unaware of their conversation "Are you okay with it?"
"Yeah!" replied Marinette, much to Arianne's surprise "You I don't mind, 'cause I know you are not in love with Adrien, but Chloe? No way!" Arianne felt extremely guilty, and turned to look back at the script on the table.
"I'm doing it as a favour, anyway" added Arianne, looking at Thiago "As soon as Myléne gets back, she'll have her role again" she replied, approaching Adrien, who was ready for filming.
"Of course she will" nodded Thiago with a smile, and he was being honest. But he was smiling at the thought of his best friend finally kissing the guy she loved.
"I can't believe I agreed to this" she said, passing a hand through her face.
"Don't worry, Aria" replied Adrien with a smile "Think of it as one of your presentations"
"The difference between this and that, is that, in my presentations, I'm never filmed, and I never had to kiss someone!" she replied logically.
"Would this be your first kiss?" he questioned curiously, and Arianne couldn't help but blush sheepishly.
"You know it is" she replied "If I had kissed someone, I would have told you"
"Don't worry" he assured, bringing her closer "I'm sure you'll do fine"
"I hope so"
"Ready to roll?" asked Nino, raising his phone in front of him to film the take "Camera?"
"Horrificator, take seventeen" said Alex, raising the clapperboard in front of the camera, and hitting it together. Arianne's heart was beating out of her chest as Alex said this, and she felt very warm, as if she had a fever.
Stupid nerves.
"Action!" yelled Nino.
"I'm not scared of that monster, Officer Jones!" she said, using the best acting skills she could manage, as she tried not to faint. Adrien placed his hands on her arms, making sparks travel all along her nerves, as she put her hands on his chest. They both started to lean in.
"CUT!" yelled Chloe, pushing the door open, and making both teenagers break apart "I knew it!"
"What did I say about other people saying cut?" questioned Nino tiredly.
As Chloe argued with Arianne and Thiago, Adrien found himself wondering what it would have been like to kiss Arianne. He had never thought about it before, but now, that he was about to kiss her, before Chloe interrupted, and they had talked about Arianne never kissing anyone....he wished to be her first kiss.
He just hadn't realized it yet.
