Chapter 5
Dan has been helping Tylee for a week and has enjoyed every minute. He was amazed, but not surprised, by how well she handled both horses and cattle.
"Would you like to go in to town for supper?" Dan asks Tylee as they get in her pickup heading back to her house. Tylee really wanted to spend time with him, but defiantly not in town.
"Uh, what about watching a movie instead?" She offers catching him completely off guard.
"Sounds good." He says smiling while trying to keep his shock from being noticeable. Tylee makes French fries and hamburgers. Tylee insists he choose the movie so he picks Coyote Summer, they sit down on the leather couch and eat while the move plays.
After they had finished with their food Tylee takes their plates to the sink. While she was in the kitchen he rested his arm on the top of the couch around where she had been sitting. When she comes back and sits down in the same spot, about six or seven inches away from him. A few minutes later he gets up to fill his cup up, when he comes back he intentionally sits a little closer to her replacing his arm on the top of the couch.
"You look tired." Dan whispers to her, she smiles with a small nod. Dan had to resist the urge to kiss her, she was so beautiful. Tylee felt safe and cared about next to him, not to mention the relaxing mood was weighing on her eye lids. After the movie is finished they say good bye and Tylee goes up to shower. She has no problem sleeping that night.

After the movie last night Tylee fought back feelings she knew she didn't have time for. She didn't have for time for a relationship, she hardly kept one up with Becca let alone a serious one with a guy.
"Breakfast was really good, Tylee, as usual." Dan comments bringing her out of her thoughts and sending a pang of want through her as her name rolled off his tongue with ease. She wanted to hear her name spoken by him more often, she wanted to feel the security she felt last night.
"Thank you." Her voice is soft like normal, but he doesn't miss the sound of sadness flicker through it. He couldn't read her like he could most people, what had changed so drastically from the night before? She had seemed to enjoy herself and hadn't pushed him away when he had scooted closer. Was that the problem? Had he over stepped when he had moved closer and put his arm on the top of the couch?
They gathered the last pasture by lunch, it was smaller than the last two. After a sandwich they had worked the claves along side one another and again he wondered how she had done it by herself. When the last calf had been branded and ear marked they turned the cattle out and loaded their horse. The drive back to her house was filled with silence and heavy minds. She was trying to push down the feelings she had developed for Dan while he was trying to figure out why she had been extra distant.
Tylee had looked in her Papaw's records a couple of nights ago at how much he had paid and got an idea of how much to pay Dan. As she handed him the envelope he felt as if he was letting something he wanted, that he felt God was telling him he needed go.
"Thanks for the help." Tylee forces herself to speak loud enough to be heard.
"No problem. If you ever need help I'd be happy to." Dan tells her, she nods putting on a smile, but its not the smile that makes him weak in the knees.
"I'll keep that in mind." She smiles again this time making him lock his knees before he becomes a heap of leather in the floor.
"See you around." He says placing his hat on his head.
"Yeah." She mumbles with a nod of her head.
As he drives away Tylee's phone rings. Becca.
Tylee~ Hey Becca
Becca~ Hey Tylee how is the works going?
Tylee~ Just finished.
Becca~ That's great! You busy?
Tylee~ Not really.
Becca~ Mind if I come out and visit?
Tylee~ That would be great!
Becca~ Did everything go okay?
Tylee~ Yeah.
Becca~ You're telling me about this when I get there.
Tylee~ Okay. Talk to you in a little while.
Becca~ Bye.
Two hours later Tylee had supper ready as Becca pulled up. Tylee lets her in and they fix themselves plates before sitting across from one another at the table.
"I want all the details about the past couple of weeks." Becca states before stuffing her mouth with mouth watering beef casserole.
"Well the first day or two was a rough gather-" Becca cuts her off.
"No, I mean with Dan. You didn't sound so fine when we were on the phone. Was he not the perfect gentlemen? Did he try to push you into something?" Becca's voice is demanding, in a gentle way.
"No, Dan was the perfect gentlemen. It's just that I.. I like him." Becca has to pay really close attention to hear what her friend says. When she hears 'I like him' Becca screams a happy cry.
"That's great! Tylee, it's about time that you like somebody!" Becca squeals with excitement.
"NO! It's not." Tylee snaps earning a puzzled look from Becca.
"Why ever do you say that?"
"Because I don't have time to invest in a relationship. The ranch keeps me busy." Becca sighs at Tylee's words.
"That's why you need to hire some help. You can't tell me that you can't keep a little more back when you donate to the Boys Ranch and pay someone."
"Who?! Who that I would feel comfortable with?" Tylee's voice has raised.
"Dan?" Becca offers. This is the deepest conversation Tylee has had with anyone since her Papaw passed away.
"He is the source of this problem!" Tylee declares in frustration.
"Just think about it." Becca's voice is soft as she concludes the conversation.
The girls wash the dishes before turning one of their favorite movies, The Retrievers. Tylee falls asleep on the couch halfway through the movie.

The whole weekend Dan can't get Tylee off his mind. How was she doing? The question the he still asked himself was, did I do something wrong?
"You have seemed off, is everything okay?" His mom Katherine asks her son as she joined him on the swing on the front porch. He and his mom have always been close and she was the first one he went to when he needed advice or someone to listen.
"There's this girl that I helped.." He tells her about how she runs the ranch by herself and how he spent a couple of weeks helping her. He included how God had laid on his heart to be there for her. "Then on the last day she was more distant than she had been and she wouldn't make eye contact or anything. I don't know if I did something wrong or what."
"It sounds like she had a lot on her plate. She is overwhelmed and you said she isn't around people a lot so she probably doesn't know what to think. I think that you did the right thing by helping her out and who knows maybe she just has too much to handle." Katherine tells him.
"Does that mean that that's it, it was just a one time thing other wise see you around?" Dan thinks aloud.
"I can't say. It may be, and it may be that somethings work themselves out and you get to know her better." His mom replies. She gives him a reassuring nod before joining the others in the house leaving Dan with his thoughts. He shakes his head in confusion as his mothers words replay in his mind.
That night Dan finds himself walking through the field next to his parent's house. His mind swirls with questions he wants answers to. He wonders how Tylee feels about the things that won't let him rest. Was she happy the works were over and he was gone?
"Lord, I don't know your plan, but I do know that I need you. I want to follow You and bring the glory to You. Your ways are far better than anything I can come up with. Give me Your peace beyond understanding; let me know what it is You would have me do." He prays aloud as he makes his way back to the backdoor.

Tylee pulls out of her driveway for town with dread, Becca would for sure be on her case. It had been two weeks since Becca had been at Tylee's house and she hadn't let her Tylee forget about their conversation. It wasn't that she was going to forget about it in the first place, Dan was about the only thing on her mind most of the time. She wasn't used to feeling like she need to hear his voice or see his face. She had never felt a yearning like she does now, exception of for the Lord.
"Daisy wish I was I was a dog sometimes, but that ain't what the Lord set me on this earth to be." Tylee mutters with a sigh, her dog gazes at her over the console.
Tylee pulls up to the grocery store and cracks the windows so Daisy has air. She places vegetables, fruits, meat, rice and some canned goods in her basket before checking out. Then reluctantly drives over to the feed store, after snapping on Daisy's leash she opens the door and enters the store. Becca is at the counter and chattering with a customer.
"I better get going." The guy says making Tylee groan inwardly. Becca replies, noticing Tylee as the guy walks out the door.
"Tylee! I have been waiting on your visit." Her excited voice fills the room as she envelopes Tylee in a hug. "So, have you thought about the Dan situation?"
At that moment Dan walked in the store over hearing Becca's question which stops him in his tracks. Dan situation?! What is the Dan situation.
"I have, but no conclusion." Tylee's soft voice states drawing Dan's ear in.
"Tylee! You will be the death of me! You need to." Becca declares. Dan strolls to the corner as if he had no clue that they were talking.
"Morning Miss Becca. How are things at the ranch Miss Tylee?" He voices his presents. Tylee goes pale while Becca seems over joyed that he made his entrance when he did.
"Morning Dan! Mind if I show you something in the back a moment?" Becca's mischievous voice keeps his thoughts from wondering too far.
"Sure." He complies following her into the storage room.
